    Consider that an old Mehari is only going to be driven a few kilometres per year. I would be inclined to do the minimum work on this engine. A future owner can upgrade later if he has money to burn.
    Price up a rear crankshaft bearing & new small end bearings. Look for a discarded cylinder in usable condition. Then reassemble with new seals and see how it goes. ☮️
    I am sure that many of these rugged engines ran for years with imperfect cylinders in rural France.
    The Mehari is light weight and not a racing car, so this engine might last for years with just rehoning of the scored barrel. 🤔

    Fyi.
    It's looks like a new crankshaft is between 650 to 900 euros.
    Have not been able to find one in Denmark.
    A reconditioned engine from Burton is 2395 euros for a 602 Cc, and 2550 euros for a 652 cc.
    Keep up the good work😂.

      konradgroenbech...if he comes over to England there's a complete engine for 350 about 380 Euros...a part engine for less than 100...or a crankshaft in reasonable condition for 80...i think i'd grab the crank if i was him...could fly over in a day...put in a bag and fly back...nothing to declare...haha

      @markianclark9645 hi Mark
      It sounds like a brilliant idea.
      I think I'll do that when I'm going to overhaul my engine.
      Save money and have a holiday in UK at the same time. Love UK and the people there.

    My first car in 1997 was a bamboo green Citroen 2CV before I took on my fathers Volvo 740GL estate.
    The 2CV was such fun to drive, even though it was underpowered, it brought so much joy to other people. Thankyou for the breakdown of the 602cc engine.

    Thank you for showing this tear down. I've seen diagrams and animations of how the 2cv engine operated, but seeing it in real form was very nice. Being in the states this wouldn't be something I would have seen any other way.

    I'm restoring an Acadine with a stuck engine, I'll swap the engine form a Visa (652cc), including electric ignition 🥖🍷

    • @leneanderthalien
      @leneanderthalien 8 місяців тому

      Swap with a Visa engine is not so easy, need the machining from the flywheel to work properly ...original ignition was fully electronic with a sensor on the flywheel, but it's better to install a specific kit for 2cv but with a specific adapter for the electronic system in front (behind the vent, need to drilll 2 fixing holes + cut the thread)

    Tak for endnu en spændende video, jeg bemærkede du lugtede til de dele du afmontere og tænkte nok de lugtede brændt som du så sagde tilsidst. Det vil være spændende hvis du fortæller prisen på af renovere denne motor kontra en ny brugt.

  • @jfv65
    @jfv65 8 місяців тому +1

    How will you know 4sure if another engine won't be just as bad?
    I would just bite the bullit and buy a new crank, bearings, rods pistons and rings an just build your own known good engine. That way you are sure that you will have a good engine and it will 4sure add good value to the car.

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  8 місяців тому +2

      I wont, but chances are good if they are not stuck... engines are very cheap and often free... rebuilding this could be at least 1000euros in parts... more likely 1500 and if i'm not careful I can quickly end up using what the car is worth and I cant afford that..

    How easy is the 2CV engine is to pull apart this was a part of the philosophy from Citroen when they designed it to be simple and easy to repair l do watch Hubnut as you know he has a 2CV and l saw him change the engine in a couple of hours needed no engine hoist he just did it all by himself

    What kind of monster undoes rusty bolts without spraying them down with WD40 first?

  • @twocvbloke
    @twocvbloke 8 місяців тому

    I think that engine could be rebuilt, but, if it smells like it got cooked at some point then there could be issues with warped barrels too, so, probably better for a later project with rebuitling it into a 652cc uprated engine at somepoint in the future... :)

    It has a knocking sound when it is hot. Believe it's the crankshaft bearings.
    Do you have any experience with knocking sounds?

    • @SeasideGarage
