Thank you for keeping all,of us who love the island up to date, it’s still heartbreaking knowing so many people have lost their homes, businesses and livelihoods, but hopefully they are okay and in time, things will be back to a new normal. I am looking forward to visiting when things are able to support more visitors being on the island. Stay safe and thank you again ❤
Oh God. I stayed at Castaways in 1969 when I was 10, all through the years since many times in Castaways cottage 8 every time , including with my husband. We were going to go back on Oct. 3, 2022 for our 30th anniversary. Of course that didn't happen. Every time I entered that sweet cottage I had so many many memories. I am heartbroken to know it is gone and I will never walk in that door again. 😢
Thank you, thank you, thank you! And yes please, maybe an update video or two every three months, if you can, would be awesome! Great work and we all appreciate you! Be well!
Thank you so much for this video and especially for including footage of Blind Pass Condominiums. We've rented a unit on the second floor of Building A for several summers. Looking forward to the day when we can return!
Thank you SO much for doing these videos. For those of us who are far away, it gives such a great picture of how our beloved Sanibel is doing. Heartbreaking but so helpful. Thank you. ❤
Thanks for the coverage! This is the very first time I've seen any video whatsoever of Rabbit Road since Ian hit. Looks like most of the buildings fared pretty well.
Thank you for these. Sad to see Castaways and the Flamingo like that. I had spent 4 nights at the end of June 2022 in one of the beach cottages :( I doubt my other places I stay did much better...Palmview and Sandpiper on Donax and TropicalWinds on Tahitian...and the bayside cottage at castaways from an earlier visit. I hope at some point to return. Greetings and best wishes from Orlando.
Thank you so much for doing this. We come to Captiva every year and are coming back this June- it’s important to us to be here to support. Our (rental) house will be ready by then.
I drove out to Captiva for lunch after reopening to Public. The sight lines and vegetation has changed drastically. It didn’t seem like much is open, but once pass Blind Pass it was beautiful along the beach. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
Was happy to be on island last week 1/11/23 and had late lunch with my wife at Mudbugs. Was hoping for Timbers but they did not open until 4pm. Checking on our place at Lighthouse Pointe to see how things were coming down there.
Thank you for updating us folks! Hoping that cheeseburger cheeseburger, the Dairy Queen, see sells seashells, open up again! How’s that huge mountain of debris at the old school site getting off the island? Barge? I see some foliage coming back👍 Thank you for the updates!!!!
Excellent video. I compare to Google maps photos before the hurricane and is unbelievable the destrucción caused by the nature , west wind hotel resort 😢
Wow....4015 west gulf drive is gone! We've stayed there everytime we visited. Grandfather would retire there every year until he died...staying Christmas through Easter.Sooo sad.,.........
We've been going to King's Crown for 10+ years. Can you tell me how it fared? Thanks for this overview for those of us who rent and aren't back down there.
Thank you for the thoughtful overview. We love these islands and are happy to see everyone coming together to rebuild. We’re supposed to visit Captiva in June with our 2 young kids. We live in the desert and really would like to visit beaches etc. What are your thoughts about the safety, accessibility, and practicality of visiting in June? Should we wait another year?
If you can't stay on Captiva, or the place you're hoping to stay, I might suggest looking inland a bit and then trekking to Sanibel/Captiva, or Ft. Myers Beach for a day trip(s). I was at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort (just before the Sanibel Causeway) on Saturday and it was busy, as an example. I know the locals would love to have you all for sure. Good luck!
Thank You for your videos! Very informative as we LOVE Sanibel Island and have been so worried about the damage. So very sad to see but am confident the Island will return & thrive. How did Sanibel Surfside & Doc Fords make out? Thank You & God Bless Sanibel Island & the people of Sanibel Island.
This is so Great that u r keeping us up to Date on the Island but my question for you is how come the Beaches are still Closed is their still some thing going on with the water either way great video and I am so happy u guys showed yourselves now I used to come down every summer for 2 weeks in july the first 2 weeks of july now is it worth my time to come or should I go some where else how much work do u think they would have done by then as is now the place where I Always stay they dont know if they r even going to be open by then what do u guys think
Notice that most of the homes & businesses that are still standing are built the old way; off the ground. Though they have wind & water damage they can be made ready to live in again quicker than any home or business built on the ground.
My family stayed in Mitchell's Castaways cottages in 1958 or 9, when we first arrived on Sanibel by ferry as there was no bridge. It was everything a vacation could be, but I admit being 9 I don't remember a lot of the things adults would remember. Then again a 2nd time around 1970 or so in the cottages, but many happy trips and memories on those islands. I was saving up to come again this year but I think I will have to wait a while longer. I'm just heartbroken at all the damage, and I'm certain all I've seen is but a fraction of all there is. So Sanibel Strong, Mucky Duck forever and hoping the residents and businesses who survive this will renew Sanibel for future generations. Oh and so happy to learn the lighthouse is being restored! What a landmark and statement that is! ❤🩹
Do you think you’ll be doing a Captiva tour update? We get so little information about Captiva. Especially South Seas. We don’t know what’s going on on South Seas at all except for the demolition that was already planned before Hurricane Ian.
Thank you for keeping us updated on things but however I think you're driving too fast not given us all the details that you really want us to sing also you're just fill me in on the left hand side what about in front and on the right
Why dont you guys ever film on the main drive Periwinkle in Sanibel? Nobody cares about private areas like W Gulf and all those private areas. We care about what we all know…..main drag Sanibel. And yall never show that. Kinda sux!😎
We were supposed to come to our two little Sundial units on 10/1, and have been advised to wait. We greatly appreciate your videos and comments. It gives us a little bit of hope for the recovery

It is heartbreaking! Always wanted to stay at Castaways. Happy belated anniversary!
We luckily snuck in one last visit to the Castaways a week and a half before Ian hit. We had no idea it would be the last.
Really appreciate you putting these together and your positive approach to such a tough situation.
Thank you!
My heart is bleeding. 🥺 Send you a lot of love. ❤

Thank you so much for these views, I have learned more in these minutes than in months. This really helps.
You are so welcome!

Love the Spoonbills!

Wonderful! The island thanks you!
Thank you for doing this. we have a place on Captiva, so seeing how things are is heartbreaking, but helpful.
Glad it was helpful!

Yes Captiva beaches are beautiful. We were at ‘Tween Waters on Saturday near sunset and the beach was amazing.
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide that’s where I had lunch 😊
Would be nice if you had a reference map that follows you in the videos.

Thank You. This is so heartbreaking. I may have missed it, but what about the Sea Shell Museum and She Sells Sea Shells?
Thank you for the Blue Dolphin report. Devastating.
Agreed. It was such a special place.
For others looking for footage of Blue Dolphin, around 5:15 into the video.
Was happy to be on island last week 1/11/23 and had late lunch with my wife at Mudbugs. Was hoping for Timbers but they did not open until 4pm. Checking on our place at Lighthouse Pointe to see how things were coming down there.

Hoping that cheeseburger cheeseburger, the Dairy Queen, see sells seashells, open up again!
How’s that huge mountain of debris at the old school site getting off the island? Barge?
I see some foliage coming back👍
Thank you for the updates!!!!
Yes we love all those places and hope they open too! They are bringing bigger trucks to load the debris and trucking off the island.
Excellent video. I compare to Google maps photos before the hurricane and is unbelievable the destrucción caused by the nature , west wind hotel resort 😢
The shelling has actually been amazing in that spot by Blind Pass. My daughter and I call it shell island😂.
Lol love the name!
Thank you for another informative video!

It is really hard to say. It is amazing the progress the Island has made but we have a long way to go.

I was hoping to see Periwinkle Cottages on Jamaica Drive. Wondering how they fared.
It would help greatly if you could show a map of where you are on the island.
Great idea!

Sanibel Surfside did not fair too well. Doc Fords did ok as it was a newer building but they have not opened yet.
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide Thank You!

Thank you so much for everything you do. How does Bailey’s Center look?
Bailey’s is not looking too good unfortunately.
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide Ok thank you for the update. Have they started working on Joey’s Custard?

Are the beaches open? Would like to support the community.
Two accessed opened on Saturday. Tarpon Bay and Blind Pass!
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide awesome!! Thank you!! It's a 33 hour drive for us having good information is important!
Thanks for the great post. Any info on the Signal Inn on Olds Middle Gulf Drive?
You are so welcome. We showed Signal Inn on Part 1.
What was it Ranger Tony had said to y’all recently, about Ding Darling? Thanks ! Nice vid, too 😉
Ding Darling is still in recovery mode too. Follow their social media so you can keep updated. Toni put out a video yesterday I believe.
To get rid of all that debris I'm surprised that they don't do Burn Piles like we do in Texas
I think wildfires would be a concern.

I may have missed, but is Beachview Cottages open @ west coast dr.
No unfortunately not.
When do you think things will be back to somewhat normal?
So hard to say. I will say it’s amazing how far we have come in 3 months.
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide It's unbelievable. Of course the major thing was getting the causeway back up and running so quickly.
Does anyone have pictures of the Caribe Beach Resort on West Gulf?
Oh my. I'm afraid to see the west end near blind pass.....
It’s at the end of this video, our next video will feature Captiva
My mom's old house is at 1600 sable sands road if you could go by and take some video I would appreciate it
Is Lazy Flamingo on Periwinkle okay? If so, is it open?
Not open yet. They are gutting it at the moment l. Hopefully open soon. One of our favorite spots!
What about Timbers? How did they fare?
Timbers is back open:)
That building is a fortress and is super high off the ground. I'm sure Timbers came out just fine.
Does it still smell bad in Sanibel and Captiva and do you have to watch out for allegators and other animals that have been affected from Ian.
No it doesn’t smell bad and we have not been worried about alligators etc. Lots of birds flying around.
you should come out the first of every month to show what has happened in a month. Then make a video montage of the year on New Years Day.
