      @@elliotberg4572 I dunno, recently they've been getting mad repetitive, oldskool 90s hip hop though is something else. The problem with things sounding too similar is solely due to newer producers looking to imitate specific sounds but about half of them are also doing this. Let's say for example you have 5 producers looking to imitate Metro Boomin, they'll be taking inspiration from the same select tracks and they will eventually spit out a bunch of tracks that sound the same. This is the problem with producers from recent generations, everyone is trying to imitate instead of being creative. I was guilty of it myself starting out when I had no idea what I was doing, so maybe we just need to give producers a bit of time and we might get some creativity again.
      Now there's nothing inherently wrong with taking inspiration but people aren't really looking further afield. Personally I try and take inspiration from artists outside of the genre, I've been using a lot of Synthwave sounds for a retro trap sound recently. It's pretty dope if you can do it right. I've also took inspiration from Lorn as he does some crazy stuff with effects and tape decks.

    2. Deep 808 in a 3 or 4 chord style

    A helpful tip for the scale reminder: Set it to a different instrument with no volume and have it stretched across the measures you're placing the notes in. That way, it's easier to see the scale and where you're putting the notes.

  • @AnGhaeilge
    @AnGhaeilge 5 років тому +16

    A lot of this is really simplified if you understand music theory. Most people developing melodies just toy around until sometime sounds right, but if you understand the circle of fifths and how to write melodies through music theory, it becomes so much easier and quicker to put a track together.

    "I really don't like reverb inside of plug-ins" I thought that was just me tbh, I'm always turning it off when ever possible, thing is I have some VSTs that don't actually have a reverb effect and rely on a heavy release in the ADSR, so for people like us who can't seem to find a reverb in the VST take a look at the ADSR, if it has a high release turn this down and you should then be able to add your own reverb or other effects.

    From the description: "Trap is about boomin 808s and mesmerizing synth lines." I'm afraid that today's trap is actually just a bunch of stolen samples with bad mixing. But I like how you're teaching people how to make the real deal!
