Axel and Larry join us with from MBS Motors (www.mbsmotors.com) with a fleet of beautiful and classic Mercedes Benz automobiles.
1954 300b Sedan (Yellow & Blue) exhibited on behalf of owner Martin Richenhagen. Winner of 3rd Place Peoples Choice Award
The Mercedes-Benz 300 Sedan series was built from 1951 - 1962. It signified the return to the old custom of a luxury limousine built for superb comfort and roadability. Six passengers could be comfortably accommodated, and were surrounded by “acres” of leather and exotic wood appointments. Basically, if one had to ask the price, they most probably couldn’t afford it! A landaulet version (convertible equipped with large chrome functional landaulet bars on either side) was also available in this series.
This car is a 300b, which was built in ’54 & ’55, and had a production run of only 1,732 units. As hinted by this car’s presentation, these cars were often used by heads of state, and also as parade cars. German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer was one such long-time devotee of the 300 sedans.
The engine was a dual-carbureted six-cylinder unit, producing 136 h.p., and capable of a max. speed of 100 m.p.h. Though not a speed demon, it was never meant to be so. Rather, it was meant to convey its occupants in superb style and reliability from Point A to Point B.
    1961 190SL (Black)
The Mercedes-Benz 190SL was first announced in 1954 as a “smaller version” of the 300SL. Despite having similar lines, it did not share any of the 300SL’s components. Produced from 1955 - 1963, it was - relatively speaking - much more affordable than its bigger brother, selling for $5,020 on the U.S. East Coast in 1958 (equivalent to $44,536 in today’s dollars). The 190SL was - and remains - a very pleasant, smooth running, and quiet operating sport car, featuring a full leather interior and other nice appointments inside and out. And being a Mercedes-Benz, the build quality is outstanding.
The engine was a dual-carbureted four-cylinder unit, producing 120 h.p., and capable of a max. speed of 118 m.p.h. Though not the “brute” of its big brother, it was a very popular car, as evidenced by the 25,881 units produced over its 8-yr. lifespan.
Helped by the enormous increase in value by its 300SL stablemate, its styling, availability, and pure “fun factor”, the 190SL has also steadily increased in value. Nicely restored, they typically sell for $100,000 and up.
Two other cars were brought and displayed.
