I got a black winter bridge recently and it's far and away the most diverse high output pup I've ever used. They're amazing for metal but they are not muddy like most "metal" pickups which means you can play all sorts of music with it (them).

+Robert Whelan (Wuzzard) Ripped out the active crap and rewired an old model 6 Jackson with BW bridge and Hot rail/cool rail with coil splits. New life in that guitar and is one of my main 6 strings to go to for havin fun doing what ever style. It just sings then spanks then crushes....all on one plank. Works for me

I'm looking to put some in my SG, I had emg 81/85 in it mostly for slipknot etc.. gonna put Emgs back in the Schecter and put these in SG... I'm excited to see how many diff tones I can achieve. Much more than just metal pickups but for metal it's exactly what im looking for... Very VERY excited. I feel like I can get solid lamb of god tones all the way to some bfmv to trivium... Just have to wait and see.

First of all, I gotta say, Rick Graham is definitely one of the sickest modern shredders around and this is probably the most accurate demo of the Black Winters on YT. Secondly, I recently installed both the SD Nazgul/Sentient(6 string) set and Black Winter set in my 2 favorite axes and goddamn, they bucking both sound fucking brutal! Death, slam, thrash, black, "djent"; they sound badass for all metal. There's another comment that points out that in this vid Rick plays mostly leads and honestly, that's what the BWs are better for. IMO go Nazgul/Sentient set for a rhythm guitarist and Black Winter set for a lead player. Either set, you can't go wrong.

tuners with Grovers, replaced the nut with bone and filed the slots properly, shaped the frets, changed the saddle to a roller, shielded the cavity and now we come to pickups. The bridge pickup could use a little more of what I was hearing in that Dark Winter but before investing, can I ask, when you are demonstrating the high gain sound, is your amp running hot, medium or ??? I'm trying to gauge how much of that is the actual pickup. Thanks

I've not been a huge fan of most SD pickups and prefer Dimarzio. I do enjoy the Distortion and Jazz combo in my Les Paul but that's it. I've sold most of my SD's over time until the Black Winter. These pickups have instantly became my absolute favorite pickup of all time. They're right up there with my other fav's from Dimarzio. I would equate them with the Dimarzio Tone Zone/Air Norton combo.

Lefteris Panos I mean depends the type of music you play, if your considering black winter pickups im guessing it's metal
And for most guitarist in this genre the bridge pickup is used over 90% of the time unless you play prog metal. Therefore I would recommend the bridge pickup

Really bumbed out got mine put in and theirs like a 10th second delay before sound after I hit a note so I don't like them I guess back to tried and true Duncan Distortion or A Tone zone. I was wondering if my tech didn't screw up and put the neck pickup in the bridge position . I don't see any reviews saying anything about this happening to any one else. If any one has heads up on what else might be causing this please let me know pickups are sick want to keep them but .I'm a metal guy and when I want to CRUSH it on the 1 I don't want my first Note to be 1.10 and 2 and 3 and 4 that would make me feel like I'm in upbeat hell I'm a metal GUY I thought ands were where u put 16th pedals not part of your first Note lol . Enough kidding aside please help long delay after first Note threw every amp and different cords any ideas please Thank you . By the way kill playing brother can we still say that? Is brother allowed or should I say testosterone drive badass human oh shit are we humans that might change tomorrow. F@#$ I just found out dudes can get pregnant and minstrelate I'm so F@#$ing confused and my Les Paul's broke think I'm going to go hide in my closet and cry .Shit now their turning me into a women DEAR GOD HELP. I AM SO LOST

Does anyone else feel it's a disservice to the pickups to relegate them only to metal? They sound so versatile

I love those pickups but there is a dilemma in my head, do i buy them? Its 200$ and i dont know how they really change the sound from my stock ibanez pickup.

I had the Black Winter humbuckers installed in my Vista Jagmaster recently. I've traded and sold quite a bit of gear because of these assholes, but I will say that I don't regret my decisions. Got a fucking nice Marshall JCM900 mkiii 2500 head and a cheap Marshall cab as a result of my frustration with these humbuckers! It took me enough digging to learn that the mid and high frequencies are pretty damn high on them, which can create a fizzy tone.
Best way to avoid this on high gain amps: lower the mids and treble until you don't hear that fizz anymore. If you use an EQ pedal as well, I wouldn't recommend going above -3db on the mids and treble.
I hope this helps anybody that runs into that problem as well.

+Gewell Nabe You are correct my friend. Most Guitar players will crank volume & tone to 10...That's the wrong way for these Black Winters. My amp settings for the mids & treble are both on 2 and 2 and use my volume & tone controls to find that sweet spot... for these amazing pickups! I Luv them & have them on 3 / 15 of my guitars. Keep Rock'en! I got your amp too Plus the T.I 100 Laney head & cab... Tony Iommi \m/ \m/

The effort shall be honored in Award Giving Ceremony and we business graduates and aviation, army become great fan of pick-up. We proposed to get this as a product in CD,MP4.5.6 or any other formatt in joint collaboration with Norton kind of brand or any other channel and I am sure this end product may give us life.

Lots of pops and crackles heard especially on the clean playing. It sounds like the audio was clipping pretty badly when this was recorded. Or that the pickups are noisey and quite shit. Which is it?

@@GuitarsAndSynths you can do yea, both high output but I've run high outputs in neck and bridge such as a Super Distortion in the neck and X2N in the bridge.
