I really appreciate the opportunity to see both automated cake/ball winders side by side. The I-cord machine was completely new to me. Including your 3- needle manual version. Thank you for taking the time to show these! Now off to bake myself some cake 🎂.
Thank you for showing us that you knew electric machine, the nitty and the eye cord and thank you for sharing it make cakes all the time with a hand crank
Hello Clo. Thank you for showcasing the two items. Although I much prefer the finished yarn cake made with your winder over the barrel cake made with the Caydo winder, the Caydo worked just fine and was superior to hand winding if you were on a tight budget. Thank you also for the advice to "not" wind wool yarn before using it. 👍🏽
I agree with you. There is something fascinating about watching the I-cord maker do its thing. It's reminiscent to me of when we had a fish tank (and the time I spent watching the fish swim around... and that was all they did 🙂) It is soothing or calming in some odd way. I can see the value for someone who wants/uses a lot of I-cord in their crafting, but I don't so I wouldn't buy this (or want one as a gift). The electric yarn winder was quite unimpressive. Your machine is super, and definitely worth saving up for (though I'm happy enough with my manual winder for the time being). Great video. Thank you!
Thank you for your review and test of the Caydo winder! I was skeptical about the size and shape of the yarn cake that would be made, but it looks pretty good. I currently use a hand crank one and sometimes find the capacity too small so this would be a nice upgrade.
Hi Clo thank you for doing the testing I liked the demo intresting to watch and see what everyone else is saying in the comments, the cake winder is still a lot faster than my plastic hand winder and has the added bonus of making large yarn cakes that would be great for my 200gm bobbins of hand spun yarn. The I-cord maker would make doing coasters and hotspots/trivets so much faster
Thank you for your honest review. Having an electric cake winder is always fun 😉 my little hand crank is fine for small hanks but gets very sloppy at the end… having good tools is the way to go. The I cord maker looks fun too! merci
Very interesting, thank you for testing it for us. I had never thought of knitting with i-cords because I feel they are so much work to make, but I can see this little machine changing my mind. I have a manual cake maker but I have to admit that by the time I am down with a hank or two, I have shoulder cramps so this machine would be convenient. Thanks for sharing.
I have a hand crank ball winder and I don't knit professionally so I don't need an electric caker. I often knit two at a time socks, so I will split my skein into two 50 g wound balls by weighing the yarn and hand ball winder, something that I wouldn't be able to do with the electric caker. Thanks for an informative video.
That was fun and confirms that I am super satisfied with my $15 no brand name manual winder and my wooden table top swift. I knit absolutely every day and most of the yarn does require winding. The only complaint I have is my winder can't handle more than 150 grams. If I have more than that I have to hand wind the last bit. Unless it breaks I don't see a need to upgrade. One time I had to take it apart to reseat the plastic gears but other than a drop of oil it's been working fine for 4 years now. Now the icord gizmo intrigues me . If I could be sure my kid wouldn't trash it and put play dough and whatever thru it I would consider it.
Just stumbled on to your channel. Have been looking at this winder for a while now. Looks like it makes nice cakes of yarn. Look forward to seeing more of your videos
Thank you so much for your 'first socks' video. I have 4 decrease rounds to go, then the grafting, and then my very first sock (and second knitted item ever) will be done! When I got my hand-cranked winder, I was just winding everything into cakes left and right but something automatic would be amazing!
I appreciate the time you took when doing this review. Very thorough and informative since I had been considering this as a purchase. I think I would struggle with use of the Caydo winder as my crafting space is not as versatile as yours and my swift is a very inexpensive one which also has to be clamped to the table top, but it would be a game changer for me since I rarely go a day without winding a new cake. I have a manual yarn winder so I am not having to wind by hand, but I also feel that the Caydo winder puts too much tension on the yarn feed which, as you mentioned is not good for the yarn. As a result I shall not be purchasing one of these. However, the I cord machine is fabulous! I indulge in some extreme knitting from time to time ( using 24mm knitting needles ) and to do that I either knit with 2 or 3 strands of I cord at the same time. As you can imagine, the time it takes to manually knit 4 stitch I cord long enough to make an extreme knitted item is incredible. I've even been known to knit a 4 stitch I cord using chunky needles and a normal thickness I cord, and then knit the final item. So all in all this one product review video has been amazing for me. Many, many thanks ❤
Interesting podcast. I wasn't aware that one shouldn't cake wools too long before using because of stretching and deteriorating issues. Good review, thanks.
This is so interesting! I’ve been curious for awhile on electric ball winders-how they work and if they’re worth the cost. Before I finally broke down and bought a manual ball winder a couple of years ago, I did try to make a drill work. But that was more work and had some tensioning issues, of course. Oh my goodness, that is so generous! I just finished watching the video and was thinking the whole time you were using the winder that yours has such a solid and pleasant hum. Very interested in making a cake with an electric winder! Thank you for the informative video!
Knitting and crocheting for decades and I have never owned a cake winder. That and a swift are always on a "someday list". Us moms always put everyone else first.
This was really interesting! I actually really love your swift, I keep an eye out every time I go thrifting for a similar one. 😊 I would love to try this cake winder, seems like a great way to save my hands!
Thank you for your review of the yarn winder, I was more interested in your Amish swift as that is what I am thinking of buying. I love cakes of all descriptions not just yarn, my Apple and raspberry cake is my partner's favourite
Hmm, just from the video I like the portability of the Caydo cake winder. Aside from having to take the tension bar off and the bottom clamp it wouldn't be too hard to bring it to retreats or even to local knitting groups, especially since some of us do group orders to save on shipping. This would be great to take so that everyone could wind their hanks while still getting some knit and chat in. I like that it is also USB powered. It uses less power which means you could use a laptop, tablet probably, or a power bank instead of an outlet. Who doesnt love a good cake :)
My yarn cakes also look like a football, but that is because I do them by hand with a nostepinne. Very meditative, but it takes a long time. I love your swift! That is something I need to get. And the ichord maker is fascinating. I have ideas for that one! Thank you for sharing this with us. 🙂
I really enjoyed watching the cake winders. I am now debating which one I should consider! Thanks again!! By the way, I noticed the Romarin Caker is out of stock. I contacted them to see if they knew when more would be available.
I am SO HAPPY I discovered your six tips to fair isle knitting. You are the best. I will always be checking out any video you post. Also, just starting following you on Instagram. Thank you for testing the winder and I cord maker. Very interesting. CAKE! Kathy :-)
This was fun to watch. I have been making a cake by hand with my 19th century winder. WOW- electricity. Great review. Also that icord maker is interesting.
This gives new meaning to "let them eat cake"! I would love an electric cake winder. I have a table top swift like yours. No chance of the swift collapsing or breaking. Thanks for an informative review.
Great reviews as always! I appreciate the excellent tips especially with respect to being cautious not to make a yarn cake too far in advance when dealing with natural fibres! Thanks:)
I haven't been a subscriber to your channel very long, and have been so happy to have found a Canadian yarny you-tuber when I watched that first video. I love your videos, and found your review on this cake winder very informative. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to win this winder.
I was wowed by your electric cake winder, but for someone like myself, the less-expensive one would certainly do the trick! I'd love to have it. I remember making i-cord when I was a little girl, but I haven't really had occasion to make it in many, many years. Maybe it's time to think of something so I can buy the powered i-cord maker. :-)
I do prefer to work from yarn that is in cake form vs ball form just because the cake version stays still better but if one doesn’t own a winder then one either pays for the service or begs a friend. I have been trying to save my money by hand winding full skeins into balls right before use and leftovers get wound using a wooden dowel I have started calling my Nostapin.
How interesting! Surprisingly I don’t have a table (or similar) to hook any clamp-style device. I do hand wind my yarn into balls (around the knees in my recliner). I first unwind from the skein, looping around my hand. Then I lay this gob on my lap & commence wrapping into a ball creating a center-pull ball. The I-cord gadget is something I could/would use! But…clueless how to attach to …something … (hmmm a bookcase comes to mind…) Thanks for the input on new yarn-y things! I never thought about creating a rug w I-cord! I’ve been looking at the Cordsmith’s maker, I wonder if they make a 4-stitch-er?? I’ll have to look into that. Like I “need” more tools, gadgets, projects…haha (Please don’t add me to the g\^*+>+¥ offer) Good luck w the renovation/s! It will be very nice when finished!
I’ve actually been considering buying this electric yarn cake maker, so I was very interested in watching this video. Thanks for the review and comparison.
I wind my wool with my hand and my daughter's circulating desk chair :D It is innovative, I admit, but I would not mind changing the method ;) Tomorrow is a Saturday, which is apple cake time for Autumn Lovers! Have one as well, and enjoy!
Very interesting to watch. I, personally, don't care to use any electronics to enhance or speed up my knitting. I like the "handmade" aspects of knitting. I actually had 2 knitting machines. I used to make hats for a well-known company here in Vermont as a contractor. But for my personal use, I enjoy all aspects by hand, including my manual ball winder and swift. I don't have any use for making a single loose icord unless for straps on a market bag, etc, and those are worked into the bag as you knit the bag. As a kid in the 60s, we had 4 nails driven into a used wooden spool to make cords, lol. So, I won't be entering to be fair to others who would like to enter for a chance to win. Thanks for the detailed reviews!
Hi there, I trust you’re well. Thank you for the demonstration and comparison, impressive tools for winding yarn to cakes. I love how they wind effortlessly and so quickly by comparison to my hand winder which is constantly slipping and I have to unwind and rewind taking me nearly 30 min to wind a 100gr. I would love to be in the draw to win the caker, either way I know what I’ll be saving for if I’m not chosen. Thanks again for sharing the info and offering this prize to us, it is very generous. I don't crochet enough to have a electric winder for my hanks. I'm looking to get an Amish swift. I don't like the look of the plastic umbrella ones, will look up this Caydo company. So thank you for this review. I'm having tea and cake as I watch.
that is the CAKE tool I would love to have. I also have a china made one not so reliable (get tangled 1.9 times out of 2)😂 and only for 50 gr cakes. thank you for the giveaway and the presentation!
Really nice and instructive video about cake makers 😅. I usually do it manually with the yarn in my knees, would be a pretty cool upgrade 😂. Maybe I can use it to make the cake for my first Ranunculus 🎉. Love your content 💜
Uuuuh - Love a good cake! 😊 Any. Really. Be it from yarn or from chocolate and cream. Too bad I'm on the other side of the globe, which might automatically kick me out of the giveaway, but nevertheless it's a good opportunity to say thank you for your videos! I've subscribed not too long ago but enjoy it! Happy knitting!
Both gadgets look like they are a piece of cake to operate. Thanks for reviewing them; it's nice to see them in action before purchasing. I do have the Amish swift on my wish list!
Hey! I've watched TL Yarn Crafts review of this yarn winder! I'd love to win this. Always wanted a cake winder. I would be able to buy hanks of yarn like Cascade 220 and Malabrigo Rios etc rather than balls of yarn. All the best, Lucy ☺
Thank you for sharing the comparison of yarn winders for making yarn cakes. I have been waiting for the yarn winders to go on sale at my craft store here in Ontario. I was planning on purchasing the traditional hand winder but I do think the electric one is so much more convenient in making yarn cakes!!! I would love to win the Caydo winder! Merci beaucoup!!
Thank you for showing us that winder I think it's a little pricey but if you don't want to sit there and roll the ball what do you do right you make those cakes and it makes it so much easier when you put it in a bowl I just came on to your channel I just started watching you and I was hooked you got me hooked thank you for a chance to win I would really appreciate it it would be put to good use I live in a senior citizen disability apartment complex and I would like to get our community stronger so I'm trying to start up a craft area for them to go to but we don't have supplies so if I happen to win it would go to good use thank you very much and good luck everybody
I really appreciate the opportunity to see both automated cake/ball winders side by side. The I-cord machine was completely new to me. Including your 3- needle manual version. Thank you for taking the time to show these! Now off to bake myself some cake 🎂.

I use a manual winder. What I like is that I can choose to make the cakes not too compact in comparaison with electric winder.
I like the icord maker. I have a manual icord maker. It rakes forever.

I’m in the market for a cake winder, thanks for this opportunity and all of your videos
This was really interesting! I actually really love your swift, I keep an eye out every time I go thrifting for a similar one. 😊 I would love to try this cake winder, seems like a great way to save my hands!
Cake! Thanks for testing these out! Loved seeing each cake and the differences in the machines. The i-cord maker was fun, too.
Thank you for your review of the yarn winder, I was more interested in your Amish swift as that is what I am thinking of buying. I love cakes of all descriptions not just yarn, my Apple and raspberry cake is my partner's favourite
“Cake” winders are lovely. Thank you for your honest comparison and opinions 😊
After hand winding 12 skeins of yarn, I could really use an electric cake winder. Thanks for doing the reviews.
Hmm, just from the video I like the portability of the Caydo cake winder. Thanks for demo these cake makers. I was really interested in the metal winder so thanks for including the link.
It was great to see the comparison between the two cake winders! Thank you!!
Enjoyed watching you make yarn cake with your yarn winders. Ordering cord maker after watching your video. Thank you!
I really enjoyed watching the cake winders. I am now debating which one I should consider! Thanks again!! By the way, I noticed the Romarin Caker is out of stock. I contacted them to see if they knew when more would be available.
Thanks for the video. When I CAKE my wool I tend to do a number at a time which can be tiring when doing manually.
Thanks for demonstrating both CAKE winders. Good luck with the house renos- we have been doing Reno’s for the last 5 years😩
What a great demo of these products. Thank you! I would love some help winding my cake.
I’d cut the circle that you first thread the yarn into that way you could slip the yarn out if you need to.
I am SO HAPPY I discovered your six tips to fair isle knitting. You are the best. I will always be checking out any video you post. Also, just starting following you on Instagram. Thank you for testing the winder and I cord maker. Very interesting. CAKE! Kathy :-)

Thank you for the reviews. I would like to cake my yarn with a winder instead of manually
I have been eying that electric cake winder, but it's certainly a investment. Thanks for comparing two models!
Gosh, electric french knitting! It certainly goes faster than when I do it by hand. And who doesn't love a good cake! 😉
CAKE
I loved your video , and your honesty. I would love a new cake winder .
This morning I was making a black forest cake and tonight i'm learning about electric cake winders. How wonderful is this😊
Yum!
Very enjoying, it's kinda ASMR while watching the cake machine (yarn winder 😎)and finally how it end up to turn a cake 😍
I haven't been a subscriber to your channel very long, and have been so happy to have found a Canadian yarny you-tuber when I watched that first video. I love your videos, and found your review on this cake winder very informative. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to win this winder.
Thank 😊you for the chance to win the automatic yarn winder! It makes a cake much faster than my manual yarn winder.
Cake I have a wooden yarn winder. I do agree that you got what you paid for with your yarn winder
Thank you for the demonstrations, it helps when you are considering buying. The faster one made a beautiful CAKE 😊
Thanks so much for the cake and icord demonstrations. We need all the toys, don't we?
A very fun video! Thank you! I made a lemon blueberry cake today, but I would love to make yarn cakes, too!
Cake - my arm would love this product. I like that it is a lesser expensive product that seems to work well. New subscriber.
That makes winding a cake so much easier! Thank you for making this video.
But…clueless how to attach to …something … (hmmm a bookcase comes to mind…)
Thanks for the input on new yarn-y things! I never thought about creating a rug w I-cord! I’ve been looking at the Cordsmith’s maker, I wonder if they make a 4-stitch-er?? I’ll have to look into that.
Like I “need” more tools, gadgets, projects…haha
(Please don’t add me to the g\^*+>+¥ offer)
Good luck w the renovation/s! It will be very nice when finished!
I’ve actually been considering buying this electric yarn cake maker, so I was very interested in watching this video. Thanks for the review and comparison.
Thank you for this giveaway opportunity. I love the way your winder makes a cake out of the yarn in a minute.
I don’t currently own a cake winder and really enjoy and appreciate your product testing video!
I wind my wool with my hand and my daughter's circulating desk chair :D It is innovative, I admit, but I would not mind changing the method ;) Tomorrow is a Saturday, which is apple cake time for Autumn Lovers! Have one as well, and enjoy!
Automatic cake winders are game changer, love them!
What kind of knitting machine did you use for hats.?
@lorrainekrahn4498 It was a Brothers. Fully computerized. My other, older one was a punch card machine.
Worth trying the Caydo Electric yarn CAKE maker, I would love toi see. Cake ... Yay
Cake without buttercream frosting? A time and a place for everything. ❤
Interesting options, I was not aware of this Caydo cake maker and icord maker!
CAKE Thank you for demonstrating both yarn winders and gifting the Caydo 😊
Wow...to be able to make a cake in 3 minutes would still be a great time saver! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I’ve often wondered what to use an icord machine for… 🤔 The ball winder is a better addition to my gadgets though; it would make great yarn cake 😅
Interesting demonstration. I love gadgets and would use this option to make a cake of yarn.
I would love an electric yarn winder! I love the look of a hank but it needs to become a cake at some point 🙃
Thanks for comparison between the two machines to make cakes
It is so fun making a yarn cake. They a,ways look so pretty
I could really use the winder to make a yarn cake as I have some arthritis that causes it to be difficult to wind by hand.
A new subscriber from Australia 🙏❤️🌸
I don't crochet enough to have a electric winder for my hanks. I'm looking to get an Amish swift. I don't like the look of the plastic umbrella ones, will look up this Caydo company. So thank you for this review. I'm having tea and cake as I watch.
Well gee, it's hard to determine which i love more ...my yarn cakes or eating cake!! Thanks for all the wonderful tid bits again Clo!!
Who doesn't love CAKE. Thanks for the honest review.
Hi Claudia, thanks for the demo. Cake 🎂
I'm impressed with both electric winders...will certainly recommend to my LYS! CAKE :)
that is the CAKE tool I would love to have. I also have a china made one not so reliable (get tangled 1.9 times out of 2)😂 and only for 50 gr cakes. thank you for the giveaway and the presentation!
Great review, it was nice to see it compared to another machine. Would definitely be handy for winding my cakes
I would love the Romarin. It makes the best cake! Merci
I didn’t know that we shouldn’t keep the CAKE for long! I have some for almost a year!😮
I read somewhere that if you rewind your yarn a second time It will be loose enough to avoid any pulling on the yarn.
I don't think a year is super long but it's really more about how much tension is on those cakes.
Very informative video. Any cake winder, still beats winding by hand.
Any.
Hello Clo! It's my birthday on Saturday, I'm hoping to have CAKE! I love your videos! Thank you sharing with us!
Happy birthday!
Both gadgets look like they are a piece of cake to operate. Thanks for reviewing them; it's nice to see them in action before purchasing. I do have the Amish swift on my wish list!
That was a really neat video! I've been looking for these types of machines and looking for good reviews :)
Also, cake is amazing
The I-cord maker was cool!
Thanks for the great review! I love cake! Especially yarn cakes! ❤ 😊
Hey! I've watched TL Yarn Crafts review of this yarn winder! I'd love to win this. Always wanted a cake winder. I would be able to buy hanks of yarn like Cascade 220 and Malabrigo Rios etc rather than balls of yarn. All the best, Lucy ☺
I love winding yarn into a cake, even with a NON-electric winder! It's sort of therapeutic.... 😂
This was a very interesting video! I enjoyed watching while winding my own cakes 😊Thank you very much 😊
I love cake! Yarn cakes are the best though: low fat and full of fibre!
Yarn cakes > real cake!
The cake winder was interesting. Didn’t know there was something like that out there.
Both items were unique. I did like the cake winder.
