Thanks for this vid - it showed me how to take apart my wife's Platinum+ straighteners. If you're interested, these ones we have didn't have the flexi-pcb to the fuse/plates - our one has push-fit wire connectors. The issue we had was the flashing red light of death! The fuse was open circuit, but it turned out not to be blown, but it's body is bonded in place and the connections are just a sprung connection - it needed a clean! A couple of seconds with some 1200 grit emry paper between the two parts fixed the issue. Happy days!
Thank you so much for doin this in-depth vid I've read mixed reports on fixability of Platinum plus, some say u can, some not Eclipse and Platinum original are a no no for repair everyone says
Hi Platinum Plus is repairable if you know what you are doing and have lots of spares, including a good stock of elements. Preheater and a PCB test jig. The Eclipse was garbage from the start and would crack elements if you looked at them the wrong way. The Platinum is like the Eclipse with the same issues. One company strips out the guts and fits there own custom made bits. Personally I don't agree with doing that as you are then totally liable if anything ever went wrong. And the only parts that are GHDs would be the arms...
Hi Trevs My friend gave me a Platinum Plus to have a look at because it's not working. There is no power at all. I thought it might be the mains power cable. I stripped and checked the cable; continuity was good, and the cable has 250V. I checked the socket inside the PCB board, and everything was fine. There is continuity from the plug to the PCB board for both Live and Neutral. I checked the heater elements and thermal fuses; both showed 40 Ohms and 536 Ohms, respectively. Both elements have the same reading, so they are good. I checked for burn marks but didn't find any. When I power on, I only get 6 volts on the PCB. Can a varistor hold power? Do you know the value for the R4 resistor? I would be glad for your reply and help.
Hi Trevor, Does the GHD Platinum Plus S8T262 have a thermistor to control the temperature? My feeling is that it must have, but if I disassemble each of the heater sections, each section seems to have a thermal fuse , and I can't see a thermistor. As there are only 4 wires to each section, these will all get taken up with the heater and fuse, I am wondering if the thermistor is somehow combined with the heater.... Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Mike If you look closely you will see that the thermal fuse is in the heater circuit, that is why you get about 40 ohms across the two outer wires, the thermistor is the two inner wires and indeed is part of the ceramic element. Check for broken wires, tripped thermal fuse, poor thermal fuse contacts and cracked elements.
@@Trevs-Shed Many thanks for getting back so promptly. What you say makes sense. I have an open circuit between the outer two wires for both heater sections. However, if I measure from each of the outer pair of wires to the appropriate side of the thermal fuse, I get about 25 Ohms and 15 Ohms. This adds ups to the 40 Ohms that you mention. This suggests that both of the thermal fuses have blown. I don't know whether I am surprised or not... My wife tripped over the mains cable and the straighteners hit the floor quite hard. when they were at a hot temperature. I suppose the thermal/mechanical shock could have been too much. Do you sell thermal fuses for the S8T262 in your store? I can't see them listed. I live in Higham Ferrers, so could easily pop around to save postage and the delays due to the strike if that works for you.
The little rubber insulation separating the live neutral must go on when assembling the connector out of the body and then it pushes in as an assembly. It is part of the socket assembly so cannot be put in after the socket is pushed in the housing disconnect L + N from the board to give more room..
@@Trevs-Shed My GHD Platinum just keep doing the red light and beeping. If it is not under warranty / the warranty already expired what should I do ? It's can't be repaid ?

Hi
Yes, I actually now repair the Platinum Plus model.

Appreciate your insight. Wife's platinum going in the bin then...

Good morning. What is the name of the tool you use to remove the covers of the straightening iron please? (very thin spatula) Thank you very much 😊

Any clue where I can find a electrical cable for a platinum plus s8t262 with a US plug? Our dog chewed my wife's..
As I said when you emailed me. They are not available.

Thanks for that, I will take a look tomorrow, funny how that just didn't occur to me before.
@Trevs-Shed hi can I get your contact details please trev

Omg this is such a hassle 😭😭 mine just keep doing the red light 😭😭 and they don’t have service Center here
GHD do not repair any of their products and they do not have or sell spares. If it is under warranty return it to the seller for replacement.
