I'm pretty sure the Water in the Water temple isn't lake-water. I'm pretty sure it's the tears of everyone who let this temple's difficulty get to them.
You know, between the Islamic chanting in the Fire Temple (originally), this Water Temple, and the Spirit Temple, Nintendo was really going for a Middle eastern theme with the game's dungeon music.
Easily one of my favorite dungeons. Why? Because I hated it as a kid, and it was a huge determination of mine to beat it, along with my friends. I still recall the get togethers I had with friends in our dedication to beat this temple. We were so fustrated with it, we were all stuck on it for the longest time, and I still remember how loud and happy we were when we finally conquered it. And in actuality, I think that's what Nintendo was going for here. I fully believe that they purposely made this dungeon extremely difficult and frustrating the way it is to create something memorable in which we would work together to conquer it, or in some cases challenged ourselves in determination to conquer it. And when you finally beat it, it felt like an astonishing accomplishment, and at that point, you felt ready for anything, making the rest of the game a more hyped adventure. In the end, this created one of our biggest gaming memories, one that we as gamers won't ever forget, and is one of the reasons why we look back at this game and remember how incredible it is. Whether you love it or hate it, the Water Temple managed to be one of our greatest gaming memories through sheer anger and frustration. :)
This pic represents my feelings of the water temple. hahaha Link frustrated looking confused on where to go next with a locked door in front of him. LOVE IT
I know that this temple is extremely tedious and not well-implemented, but I like the design and atmosphere of it. Especially seeing how the previous two temples (Forest and Fire) were very eerie and creepy, it was nice to have a temple that was more serene and safe. It's a nice breather to calm you down until you get to the next temple.... The dreaded, most frightening, bloodiest place of all! The Shadow Temple! God, that place gave my nightmares. It's my favorite temple.
Extremely tedious and not well-implemented? It was implemented fine, in the perfect area, and with a nice design. You drop to the very bottom, do every room there, go to the second floor and repeat, then repeat for the third floor. You only have to reset the water level a minimum of once-twice. It's a confusing temple if you just try to wing it, but if you use the map and go through every room, it's quite simple
The whole concept of the temple is a puzzle, Captain Smart. The dungeons themselves are declared "puzzle areas", whether or not there are "puzzles" within them, as dungeons are closed areas with a particular theme that tests skill, knowledge, memory, and/or ingenuity. You don't cease to impress me, keep it up.
I honestly love/hate this temple... it kept me at bay for about 2 or 3 years. However I kinda like how much difficulty it put me through, and the dark link fight was so fun and satisfying(if you did it with your sword and shield and didn't cheat). The final boss though was a tad disappointing, I know what they were trying to go for though. Basically making a nucleus that controlled the water in the room as if the entire room of water was a whole creature. However the nucleus alone, the blob it made, didn't feel like ti was enough and was a fairly simple boss so long as you used Z targetting right. Overall this whole temple was the biggest pain in the ass for me trying to fiigure out which keys I haven't used or what door I haven't gone through.... lowering/raising the water appropriately, but in the end I enjoyed it all. It was truly a dungeon/temple from how it felt, especially with this music. So cryptic, the chains, watery sounds... just perfect for a dungeon that tested your patience and will to explore.
How did it take you a few years to beat this dungeon? It took me 2 weeks (I didn't play much because I thought dark link was impossible XD). Actually, I thought this was the only dungeon in Oot that was challenging, and tested my skills mentally and physically. I have yet to play master quest, but until then, this is my second favorite dungeon right behind the Spirit Temple.
KNEXBUILDER19 Mostly because I started playing other games and gave up trying. I'd always turn it on every now and then but I'd still be like "I just don't know where I left off...." and then ignore it. One day I finally decided to dedicate all my time to finding out where I go next and wouldn't stop playing until I did. Coincidentally I ended up going the correct way finally and just kept on going until I beat the dungeon fully so I'd never have to leave myself lost lol.
Chickensryummy Like I said... just getting lost and etc. It wasn't difficult, just tedious to keep track of, especially if you're like mad turned off the N64 mid dungeon and then you don't remember which keys/doors you used/unlocked. I guess it was moreso my fault for not paying more attention to it all but I was only like 12.. idk.
One of my favorite temples in the game simply due to the atmosphere. The song and all the water was very soothing to me. I felt alone and at peace in this temple. I didn't find it difficult either. I got stuck once, but when I figured out where that one key was, I never got stuck again.
Don't want to sound like 'that guy', but I really never understood people complaining about this temple. It was a little tricky, sure. But hardly difficult. I haven't played the 3DS version, which im assuming is easier than the N64 one? I enjoyed my stay at the Water Temple.
back in day, i remember what we did (my sister and brother) 3 bottles of magic, iron boots on (so dark link could not dodge the fire) and than spaming Din Fire xD
I play both Oot and MM every 2 years for some reason.... always forget about how complete this temple.... but its a great satisfaction. I doubt I live enough to see another game as good as this one.
This music just gives me that sense of nostalgia or...i'm not sure, but I know that I could listen to this theme for hours. I also remember my first time doing this temple, those were the days.
You have to admit, even though the temple is challenging, you have to appreciate the fact that it makes you actually havr to think as to how to go about it.
The order changes depending on the keys, the reason this temple is so confusing is because there are several keys available at the start depending on what floor you go, and where you use them the order changes. So every time someone replays this temple using their brains, they will undoubtedly take a new path every time. It's really clever, this dungeon is meant to stay challenging every time you replay it.
I agree with you too. Funny enough I was 8 too when I finished the temple..... while the layout really threw me off and I had to keep my autistic brother from deleting my file, this was defenitely my favourite temple along with spirit temple. The feeling of acomplishment right after figuring the place out on my own...... will never forget it...
Regardless of the criticism this temple gets, it will always be my favourite temple. I am always relaxed when I am in this area, and the puzzles are fun to me. Damn, I realize I still cant find anything wrong with this game, no wonder its my favourite!
I remember when I was 7 I got so frustrated I quit the game XD Nearly broke my N64 controller in a hissy fit. When I was 11 I picked the game back up, and so glad I did. I remember waking up at 4am (something I never do) and just went at this temple. 45minutes. 45minutes and I conquered one of my biggest challenges. My friend ended up playing the game when we were about 14 lol I ended up beating it for him. Great times, great memories
I remember friends passing off their Zelda N64 cartridges to me in 3rd grade so I could get their account past the Water Temple bit :D I ow a big part of a secret adventurous side of myself to this game and growing up with the series. so awesome, I feel lucky haha
Im so happy that I somehow managed to perfectly go through that temple the first time I played OOT. I only realised why some kids where so frustrated until my second playtrough. the constant shoe switching was annoying though.
Especially if you are doing it without any guidance at all, i did it when i was 8 years old with out google or something like that on my N64! Took me forever to figure out those water levels and how to get all those keys that led to all those different doors.. ugh. Good times though :))
I feel the same way; people like to complain about the temple for the sake of complaining, it became an internet fad in itself. And a lot of people complained about having to play Zelda's lullaby, and having to switch boots, so often... but truthfully, even as an impatient, frustrated kid I don't remember having my jimmies so rustled by any of that. It's probably long and arduous for a child more than anyone, but I managed it. We all did.
the water temple is nothing but a supreme and prestigious design. Nintendo out do themselves with every water temple. and i get an extremely satisfying feeling when i know i've managed ot pull through the challenge
For me personally, it was one of the best games of all time and there is something very meaningful about it. It wasn't the graphics so much as it was the theme and as a child playing this game the music felt so mystically transformed. Elves, Temple of time, Dark Link, Mask seller, Zombies, dead hands that would come up out of ground in the Shadow Temple and not to mention *that freaky looking blood covered slug creator that is bend over with a small head and big choppers.* (shivers)
This song makes people experience drowning : a slow, tormenting, helpless and quiet agony, not unlike the Temple it represents. A confusing and mysterious look to the depths of the seas and death itself; all in a single song.
The music is WONDERFUL, AMAZING, MAGNIFIC, GREAT, TERRIFIC!!!!! LOVE IT!!!! The concepte of this temple is very good, to me it's the hardest temple of the entire game. But the boss wasn't really interesting to fight...
Poor Link, take off those Iron boots silly, and put them back on when your in the water. This song is both mysterious and relaxing, all at the same time.
Glad you enjoyed it, really. I personally felt like I wanted more at every turn...can't explain what exactly, but something...I was twice as bored during my play through Hero Mode, and that's never happened to me in a Zelda game before... Anyway I love the graphics in the game though...and some of the music is among my favorite... I can't even pinpoint my favorite Zelda game...gameplay-wise it's either ALttP or Capcom's GBC games...but ambiance and immersion-wise it' the N64 games...
Believe it or not, this was actually my favorite dungeon in the game. I actually really liked the puzzles involved in this area. The Spirit Temple in Master Quest; well, that's another story.
I love this temple in the masters quests but it was hell for me the first quest. I know some people beat it quickly but for me it took LITTERALLY ONE YEAR! No joke! Its never EVER taken me that long to beat a dungeon in Zelda.
I hated this temple when I was a kid but today it's probably the temple I look forward to play the most when I start a new playthrough. Just something about it..
I'm ashamed to admit that I have never use Farore's Wind in the Water Temple, and that I just now realize how goddam smart that would be. I both detest you for humbling me and appreciate you for sharing that. I still play OoT on my original n64 all the time and I fully intend to abuse Farore's Wind next time I come across the Water Temple. Thanks for that.
i remember havin a really hard time with this temple. got my friend to help me out when I was little. then as my little brother was playing through this game I warned him, "you're gonna get really frustrated with the Water Temple!" he beat it right away in about 40 mins. all i could say was, 'wat'
i never really found much trouble with this temple. i mean yeah a bit here and there but it didn't take me like months. the music is inspiring (that's the secret) haha :D
I think the most aggrivateing things in Zelda games is seeing that One Chest or that One Area ina temple or major place that you know you can get to, but not just yet...
URGGGHHHHH. THIS TEMPLE. I always happen to get sick when I get to this temple, first time I fell ill with stomach aches and really bad headaches... Second time I had nausea.....third time my stomach was hurting once again, fourth time a migraine....and so on... Worst tone was my tenth time I had a very bad cold and had problems breathing @_@;; I think this temple has a curse on me @_@;;
ah I remember this temple...... got lost so many times.....but the feeling of pride when I beat this temple at 8 years old......unforgettable....then again I never did forgive my autistic brother for deleting my file right after this temple.......
I played this game when I was about 10, and I don't remember having any trouble with this temple. Now, the shadow temple, that's an entirely different matter.
See that's the good thing about the 3ds, you can assign the boots to one of the buttons so you don't HAVE to pause the game and go into inventory to put the boots on or take them off.
I think you're missig my point. To me the fun and beauty of it was that every turn was a new puzzle, one that requires you to stop, look and analyse the situation. The way you found yourself wondering "what new trap they're troiwing this time" to the feeling of pride that comes when you figure it as a child and go "Hell yeah!". Even the boss fights were just puzzles where you have to figure out how the monster fights and when and how to counterattack before it kills you.
I'm pretty sure the Water in the Water temple isn't lake-water. I'm pretty sure it's the tears of everyone who let this temple's difficulty get to them.
how does this comment not have more likes?
***** Hahaha wow.

The thumbnail is so nostalgic.... God I miss the early 2000s
I must be the only person on earth that loved this temple. My favorite part was when I entered the room that dark link was in.
You know, between the Islamic chanting in the Fire Temple (originally), this Water Temple, and the Spirit Temple, Nintendo was really going for a Middle eastern theme with the game's dungeon music.
The song of my childhood nightmares... O_O

I think Shigeru Miyamoto would be happy to hear you say that.
I don't know why but every time i do the water temple its easy for me
Aaron Montes Was easy for me. You could honestly do it in 20 mins.
Just process of elimination.
So you and your friends got together to play Zelda? Did you bring your n64's to each others house? Or did you grow up with 3d version?
Just sorta did fast process of elimination. Use the map dude. lol
Beautiful music to the best temple.
torture.mp3
Ocarina of Time is the best game mankind has developed.
Yeah especially spirit temple it is the best
cap
So... awesome.. and... peaceful...
The perfect music for me to calm down when running frustrated around in that puzzle of a temple.. *Fave*
This temple is actually really easy
this is favourite temple music track to listen to out of the 7. thank you for posting this
Im about to take a lovely bath now, this music suits perfectly I'll just leave it on here ... ahhh ....
ah crap I thought it said 10 hours, on to another vid !

Unless your weird and go to the spirit Temple next xD
No Pancake Mix You can't

anyone who has played this knows how unforgiving this soundtrack is, its good if you want to be listening to it forever though :(
yea I wish I had more of these extended tracks.. perfect for background music. especially temple of time.. meditation music at its finest
My favorite temple just cause I love water ❤️
am i the only one that LIKES this temple? i find it very relaxing and soothing
I honestly love/hate this temple... it kept me at bay for about 2 or 3 years. same here, first beat it two years ago in one sitting without a guide, mind you i was 12 the same age as people saying they were lost for months
Is it weird that I think of this song whenever I am at a spa/gym?
Interesting culture, interesting music, etc. Inspiration can come from anywhere, not to mention Middle Eastern music sounds really cool on an ocarina.
lol, its tittled "extended versión", when i played this song i listened this shit for 235235 hours and asdjghasga
fuck temple.
I really like this music. I could fall asleep listening to it!
Don't want to sound like 'that guy', but I really never understood people complaining about this temple. It was a little tricky, sure. But hardly difficult. I haven't played the 3DS version, which im assuming is easier than the N64 one?
I enjoyed my stay at the Water Temple.
Well worded, The temple was a bit longer do to side tracking. But it wasn't that bad.
Plus the music was nice. So it was worth it.
Hardly difficult? The first thoughts of most people that walked into this place was where. The fuck. Do I go??
this was my faorite temple no matter how long or hard to find all the small keys, i love it
Here! Here! To the most frustrating part of the Greatest Game ever, and the part of that game that made me despise all Water dungeons!
I dunno, man. "Greatest game ever"? As much as I love OoT, Shadow of the Collosus inches it out as best game ever as far as I'm concerned
William McNab
For many, including myself Oot is the best game ever.
The Water Temple was a painful nightmare, but you have to admit, it looked really cool and have GREAT music
i figured out how to defeat dark link dont target him and hit him. also din fire will kill it slowly
the Megaton Hammer also works
back in day, i remember what we did (my sister and brother) 3 bottles of magic, iron boots on (so dark link could not dodge the fire) and than spaming Din Fire xD
lol Kill it with fire!
Connor Nay I thought that just flattend him without doing any damage.
Johndude Nope, it hurts him enough to break him.
I play both Oot and MM every 2 years for some reason.... always forget about how complete this temple.... but its a great satisfaction. I doubt I live enough to see another game as good as this one.
The sound of my nightmares D: neh just kidding, the forest temple was much harder
After just completing this temple once again, I can say it with certainty: the water temple is my favorite in series. :)
"Do you want to see ads like this?"
"no."
Where is the option to "Don't show me ads EVER"
We can't even skip all of them anymore. -.-
You can skip all of them by getting an add blocker... you know?
If they didn't have ads then you would have to pay for UA-cam
This music just gives me that sense of nostalgia or...i'm not sure, but I know that I could listen to this theme for hours. I also remember my first time doing this temple, those were the days.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time....
"I love how much you get to use the iron boots in the water temple"
- said no one ever
i can get sick of the song here on youtube.. but when i am playing the game and get to the water temple. i just cant get enough, all the memories..
Is it me or was Master Quest water temple must easier than the original? Definitely less backtracking i know that.
+blaster00000 Oh it was 100% easier, I believe I went there first and beat it before any of the other temples.
+blaster00000 Oh it was 100% easier, I believe I went there first and beat it before any of the other temples.
You have to admit, even though the temple is challenging, you have to appreciate the fact that it makes you actually havr to think as to how to go about it.
I love this song, but i hate water levels.
I remember this. Evil puzzles, got lost... but still one of my favorite sound tracks.
This temple wasn't even that hard...
I was five years old first time exploring this temple, I liked it back then as now~

One of the most calm and peaceful songs to go along with one of the most confusing and frustrating dungeons in the game.
This was the music of my childhood, I spent weeks completing this god damn temple. Even using an FAQ confused me!
This was the hardest temple in the game. I was SO glad when I finished it.
This should play inside every underwater world, and when you're going scuba diving.
Oddly enough I fund this one of the easiest temples. Freaking loved it
I remember when I was 7 I got so frustrated I quit the game XD Nearly broke my N64 controller in a hissy fit. When I was 11 I picked the game back up, and so glad I did. I remember waking up at 4am (something I never do) and just went at this temple. 45minutes. 45minutes and I conquered one of my biggest challenges. thanks for uploading this, ive been looking all over youtuvbe for an extended edition
The rage that generates from this song.
If you were having fun with it, then it's likely that you took longer than you thought.
Time flies by when you're amused.
the water temple is nothing but a supreme and prestigious design. Nintendo out do themselves with every water temple. and i get an extremely satisfying feeling when i know i've managed ot pull through the challenge

once i realized there's a key under the center building after you raise the water, the temple was pretty straight-forward
Love that trickling water sound. ^.^
Believe it or not, this was actually my favorite dungeon in the game. I actually really liked the puzzles involved in this area.

I don't see why so many people hate this temple, I like it
Very nice. What a beautiful music.
One of the best dungeons. It is great.
i like this temple, no matter how frustrating it got. although with my most recent obsession i have to say i can't get near it.
I finished this temple in 2 days (about 3 hours each day) my first time through... But, that aside, this music is gorgeous.
Nice pic....also this is the calmer temple of the game, easy to get lost though
I played this game when I was about 10, and I don't remember having any trouble with this temple. Now, the shadow temple, that's an entirely different matter.
See that's the good thing about the 3ds, you can assign the boots to one of the buttons so you don't HAVE to pause the game and go into inventory to put the boots on or take them off.
I remember doing this temple when I was 8 without a guide, took me so long to figure it out!
tell us your ways of wisdom, o high master!
I won't lie.Though this is the most hated temple, I personally like it. Especially the fight with Dark Link
I think most players love this place ( I certainly do). They just never got over getting ridiculously lost in this place......
i used to ALWAYS forget about going under the block in the center room after raising the water level.
This temple took me a day, I thought it was easy.
Maybe not the music, but switching between the Iron and normal boots and playing Zelda's lullaby over a gazillion times drove me up the wall. xD
