This is actually and surprisingly so valuable holy shit. I absolutely love these types of analytical videos. I would maybe suggest one thing. That you get another player on the other side and play out these scenarios in a more realistic way, just my opinion tho. Anyway, keep up the good work bro you are helping me a lot.
I find videos like this so fascinating. I have pretty good aim, pretty quick and consistent mechs but I used to hate dying in ranked so I spent time just free building alone. Now I want to take the game a bit more serious and I find myself being hard stuck elite or champ so I have been actively trying to get better at fighting. So far I have seen improvement but not as much as I'd like to see so learning new perspectives like this video are a big help especially since typically when I fight people in ranked or creative I just free build blindly without thinking about what my opponent is looking at or what they are thinking/doing.
yep ranked is probably the most frustrating. the amount of these "hidden" skills pros have seem endless, i only crack the iceberg. u have to be very hardheaded to find the true flaws in your gameplay and always take fault.
I would think less about builds and more about movement . If your goal is to win the game then focus on winning the game. Keeping height , good rotation. If your focused on getting kills get better at your builds/edits/peace control . The more fights you get in the more likely you are to die
dont play ranked to get better spend time edit coursing in creative and doing build fight 1v1s, jump in ranked to test your skill only its a waste of time.
As someone who just plays casually, this was a great watch and super informative in giving me a new way of looking at approaching half the fights I'm actually in. Also great visual explanations of what you were talking about each time.
you’ve got no clue what you’re saying first off you don’t need visual sound to realize someone’s in your “blind spot” the idea is that regardless of whether they KNOW about it or not, you can move through a blind spot so quickly and it’s in such a weird, uncommon spot that once they realize it’ll be too late and you’ll either be on height, protected by a cone, or looking for an easy shot on them
The reality also that they can just spam cones around themselves to block players from trying to do some kind of clutch move like that, they can also do it ahead of time. But the point of the video was more along the lines of, try and create a system of plays you can make that respond to where the opponent is with a thwifo. Rinse and repeat until your opponent makes a mistake. If you make mat efficient plays then you can rinse and repeat pretty freely. The problem with double ramp retakes is that the entire thing is a big read because you're not looking at the opponent (you can try and use double movement some though), making big reads is most of the time not going to work unless you use trickery to get your opponent confused.
These videos are so useful, I always thought I needed to learn some stupid difficult retakes to compete but these simple but effective moves nobody explained, seem more valuable. Thank you for explaining, I subscribed and going to practice these.
The thing is that I use protective retakes which aren't really that complicated for me to do whether I'm playing controller or mouse and keyboard. The only thing that you need to worry about is doing them consistently a keep the flow going mostly.
The way you describe everything is PERFECT. I usually come away from how to videos feeling more dumb lol but I feel like I actually understand what you’re saying here and I get the reasoning. Can’t wait to get home and try the advice out!!
This is very good an opponent can only do so many different things and I think people forget that there actually more predictable the better they get I’ve noticed
20:46 is genius. I subbed your amazing man thank you for this information it’s hard getting actual good tips and showing in game slower from both perspective. Earned my sub 🔥🔥💪🏽
Yall for blind spots i recommend faking out ur opponent, so for example in the first blind spot scenario he ramped to the right, instead of that place one ramp to left or a cone or whatever really, then sprinting to the right and going up from there. Half the time ur opponent gonna be looking where you placed a ramp and you catch them off guard on the right which makes them panicking and you can take height. Just remember if the fight lasts a while they may catch on to your fakes so it rlly only works against good players 1-3 times. But also another tip is just do other things in fights, it’s not all about build fights you can take the fight slow by boxing up and just waiting for him to make a move if he starts spraying you from height while ur in a box prefire a shotgun shot or something, just think outside of the box while playing it slow and safe, you’ll eventually be able to speed it up while thinking outside the box. Goodluck to yall ❤
that’s good advice but it’ll only work on players who aren’t that good, if you go up against somebody really good they’ll read your fake 9/10 times but still good advice nonetheless for lower skill levels
@ yessir that’s why I stated it will only work 1-3 time and trust me it can still work you can double fake and learn new things with it so for example, fake once on them and if it works fake again then fake that fake etc it’ll eventually become a habit and you’ll be so much better trust, just gotta add good peaks and side jumps to it and your pretty much unpredictable
15:45 you should make a video going into more detail on the responses to the various positions. You covered a couple but seeing a few more of the most common positions would be helpful
I often find myself feeling forced to challenge height directly in a fight even though i know its not the best move. Especially in an actual game where dragging brings third parties, and chopping more often that not leads to me getting shot at, this has been really insightful, thank you so much
26:12 protective retake for left 29:10 high protective retake" Bro thanks you so much for video like that it helped me a lot in understanging fighting like that
7:51 seconds in. Advice is semi wrong. You should sprint jump off cone to riight side of structure completely blinding opponent to you snd then highwall cone their head. You could do what youre wasting time showing in literally one fluid movement. Sprint jump onto floor ramp and high cone.
Watched a bit further and you showed the true answer. Thank God. That is almost exactly how I would approach it with a ramp between and side piece to the right.
I usually throw high walls and build up at the same time it works amazing...low ground shots and learning to side jump shoot is also criticial on fighting from low ground
I was played 2v2 speed realistic last night and the opponents legit sat on height and when I went to push up they would both spray me then just build up more and I would end up losing. I've never heard of this technique before but this should definitely make taking height easier from now on.
if u r mechanically skilled the side jumps and blind spot methods are best for most scenarios just with a bit extra protection with cone and ramp edits nd stuff accordingly
I came here expecting to learn a whole bunch but instead I got told I’m a pro, lovely (I didn’t know about the blind spot tho, that’s an interesting concept)
I really love technical videos like this and at the same time I disagree with your blind spot point because a lot of pros are near perfect at tracking opponents during fights so this may work on the average player but good players are aware of the visual audio at all times while fighting.
Before watching, I used play fortnite a ton back in season 3 started just when it came out and PUBG was still a thing, played properly on mnk in season 3. Coming back last year for OG I learned the retakes and editing etc got okay at it and stopped when og left. Then obviously came back but this year in build fights if I get high ground I keep it and if I don’t get it what tends to happen is the opponent over builds so I chill and wait and if there’s a chance to climb up I take it and get him, if not I go silent so he doesn’t know my location and they tend to make a mistake and I get a free. Seems very consistent for me so far
My method when I lose height is I slow down box up collect my self, play passive, reactive trying to hit a window peak and when my opponent pixaxes my wall I edit out and retake, by the time they take my wall I’m already above them but I’m pretty sure this won’t always work
yeah man side jumps are the way to kill someone who has better mechs than you every time, he should make a video on the timing it takes and placing yourself in the right position on you builds.
Everybody is praising this dude in the comments, but I feel a lot of this advice is either obvious, redundant or situational, and won’t work against a much better player. Also, as to why people do flashy retakes, speaking from my own point of view; it’s not necessarily to gain height, it’s to gain height without being able to be piece controlled, the more double and triple edits you can place, the less your opponent can pre-piece. This is the though in high level build fights, whether you like it or not, or whether you’ve fought a player of that calibre or not, that is how fights are decided at that highest level of play. In these “blind spot” running retakes, you’re way more exposed than you believe. A good player will not only use their vision to track you in a fight, but also their intuition and game sense to predict your movement, and also their hearing. Someone who is 100% aware of their opponent and their surroundings WILL get a free shot on you when you ramp “in their blind spot”; assuming they have a good reaction time.
it's a logical deduction, not up to awareness, visual audio or not. if your opponent is not exposing themselves, they cannot peek the blind spot in time to shoot you due to limitations of movement speed. the geometry of the situation i showed is this. imagine a scenario where 2 people are revolving around a pole at the same movement speed. one person is far away from the pole, one is extremely close to the pole. the person closer to the pole will revolve faster than the person farther from the pole. obviously in the demonstrated situation we are the one closer to the pole, as well as we are tac sprinting, and there will be delay in opponents reaction due to peeker's advantage and reaction time. essentially, not only do we have an advantage in movement speed and delay of the opponents reaction, we also have a geometrical advantage by "unpeeking faster than our opponent can peek". as for flashy retakes that sort of "claim a lot of pieces so your opponent cannot" as you described, it doesn't matter how many pieces you claim. priority on builds is based on who places it first. if your opponent predicts you, it doesn't matter how many pieces you place. in practice, "claiming pieces so your opponent does not" is generally only used to keep momentum. for example, to not get blocked off by a floor when tubing. acquiring height at it's core is accomplished by elevating faster than your opponent without getting shot. take this concept all the way by incorporating diversion, blindspots, creating threats, creating distance, and extremely fast elevation and this is how you acquire height.
Bro... such an informative and helpful video, keep up the content like this and i'd even love a video of a similar style about maybe opening fights or using edits.. something along those lines
the problem comes in where your retakes arent getting you height any faster than simple 90s, utalizing ramp side jumps and thwifo cones are all the retakes you need

blind spots don’t work on 90% of good players because they have visualize sound effects on, keep that in mind
there is some good information for beginners though
I don't believe it's meant to be sneaky but just it's a more difficult spot for them to line you up in their cross hairs
