    So I just started practicing rev matching I feel like I’m improving but I see videos were riders rev match gears back to back and looks smooth but when I do it sometimes I notice I take slower and longer to rev match between gears because if I drop from 4 to 3 the engine slows down a lot and I feel it because I kinda lunge foward it’s a rough slow down

    • @patrickbateman331
      @patrickbateman331 6 місяців тому +1

      Maybe your 4th gear is very tall compared to 3rd so you should slow down some more before dropping the gear. Most bikes used by youtubers are very race oriented bikes with tight gearing which allows them to easily drop gears back to back. Also Remember, you downshift to come in the powerband of the appropriate gear with regards to your speed. If you're already in the powerband of a gear at a certain speed you don't need to downshift otherwise the speed will be too much for the lower gear and you'll experience harsh engine braking.

    I’m glad you’re back. Just found your YT channel & honestly, out of all the videos I’ve watched regarding rev matching, this one was stupid easy. My bike won’t blip for whatever reason though, it needs extra throttle play to get it up it not it sounds like it’ll die. I’ve cleaned the fuel tank, added a new gas filter, adjusted the carb, but I more than likely need spark plugs & to adjust the valves since it’s a used cruiser. Thanks for this though!

    I was going to wait and buy a new 2025 Honda cb650r with the new
    e-clutch syste.
    But now I can buy a used one and save three or four thousand dollars by learning to do the downshifting and rev matching myself.

    It's been about 6 years since I've had my own motorcycle. I just put a down payment on one yesterday. I used to always rev match to slow down on my motorcycle. But, I didn't realize you could do it back to back to get to such a low gear without using the brakes. I also drive truck and when we had manuals and if ppl knew how to float gears we'd essentially do the same thing except you have to let the rpms slow to match the lower gear you wish to go into. So my question is - and I could be wrong - but it seems like downshifting so quick to such low gear while the bike is reved high and still moving at a higher speed, does this promote any damage internally to the bike? I get it, that in trucking terms this is a form of engine braking. But I wouldn't imagine doing it so quickly through so many gears... That's pretty awesome though! I just want to make sure it will not cause any harm to the bike...

    • @PetroHead
      @PetroHead  3 місяці тому

      I can't prove it won't damage internals but thats why there is a rev limiter and anything before that should be safe. In fact, I would go as far as saying that rev matching is better for your bike because you aren't stressing your transmission. Without rev matching, the transmission RPM needs to catch up to the engine. Anyway.. don't do it if you feel otherwise. I take no responsibility. Just sharing my 0.2 cents.

    I bought a 2018 Street Triple RS a couple years ago and I can't get it to rev match that well. I've been rev matching on every bike I've ridden no problem for the last 10 years but with this Street Triple it's like I'm fighting the bike. It's been driving me nuts for the last couple years. When I give the throttle a blip to rev match downshift, 85% of the time it acts like I didn't even blip the throttle. This makes me end up over revving it so that the bike actually adds throttle which results in a bad down shift that feels like I'm just dumping the clutch lever and slamming the bike into gear. It sounds bad too. I thought it was just me fighting all the electronics on this bike and gave up on rev matching. The weather was decent enough for a winter ride yesterday so I've been frustrated by this again so here I am looking up info on rev matching issues on the Street Triple again trying to see if I'm the only one having issues. I just found this video and decided to see how you do it and you're doing it just fine. I still don't understand why it feels like I'm fighting this bike more than riding it. I asked the dealer about this issue and they told me, "idk man, just ride without doing it." I feel like I'm going crazy. lol
