So a horse like this is much like a thoroughbred (not a quarter horse brain). He is scared, and not being brought up from a baby. He responded to positive reinforcement (you scratching his head) when loading on the trailer. I think you are going to have to incorporate a lot of these techniques with him, and you will accomplish so much more. Well, in a much more beneficial way for him. No use trying to win a battle, but rather reward for making the right choices and decisions. You got this Matt!

that is so cool! i stall at a barn with all reining horses! but i have an arabian mare. and me and her do dressage! but sometimes i ride the reining horses and i love it! but i absolutely love horses! and i love watching you. it gives me so much motivation.

Oh Matt, you should have just paid the guy the $250 he asked for since you only took one horse, or at a minimum the $200 he countered. It would help him feed the other one. No need to negotiate him down to $170 and make him feel like he had to take it. He knows you can afford it.

Brumbies are the toughest horses iv owned, some times piggish but tough and reliable. Never had one for reining though. 😁

Different question - I always wonder about approaching a new horse wearing sunglasses. Not challenging, just wondering if you find that a new horse joins up or relates better w/o sunglasses covering our eyes.

That bigger horse will be fine. Mustangs have a lot of self preservation about them. They have to bond with you. And it takes them awhile to let different people handle them.

I hope that now that you took one of the horses off his hands he can afford to feed the other one a bit better, it was so sad to see that one looking so skinny :-( Especially with him saying he rode him. Other than that I'm so excited for this series!!!

not that it matters but mustangs do have papers...thry are titled to an adopter after 1 year unless they are sale authority - maybe sale authority ones don't have papers but I would imagine they do

Rookie move hanging the lead rope out the trailer. Several horses have been killed ( broken neck) when the tail end of the lead rope got tangled on the trailer tire.
Thank you so much for your concern about my horse. Horses have been killed doing things with everything considered “ right “. I was a Boy Scout as a kid. My knot tying is solid. Raven arrived home very safe. Find some positive in your day

uhhh they definitely should have papers. it’s basically a title of ownership. i train mustangs . wether or not they where adopted from the blm pen, they come with a title after a year of someone owning them. you basically have to own them for a year in order to get a title . after a year your able to sell them, but again papers should come with .
I just adopted 2 from a makeover, I got BLM paperwork giving capture date, HMA, freezemark # etc. one even came with the EMM trainers progress reports, then of course the coggins/health certificates. I won't get title for one year to legally own them, until then I'm an adopter and they're still technically and legally owned by the BLM.

Jesus Tapia ~ In the case of an adopted animal, a wild horse or burro belongs to the federal government until the BLM issues you a Certificate of Title. After you have had the adopted animal for one year, the BLM will send you a Title Eligibility Letter. You must obtain a signed statement from a qualified person (such as a veterinarian, county extension agent, or humane official) verifying that you have provided humane care and treatment for your adopted animal. Once you sign and return the Title Eligibility Letter, the BLM will mail the Certificate of Title to you. After you receive the Certificate of Title, the animal becomes your private property.
In the case of an animal purchased through the Sale Program, a Bill of Sale will be issued immediately upon an approved purchase of a wild horse or burro. A Certificate of Title is not issued for an animal purchased through the Sale Program; however, a Bill of Sale relinquishes federal ownership of the animal.
There are no additional federal fees involved in the titling process.

Oh no no! I’ve actually been training horses since I was 12 and I’m 41 now. So you never want to let a horse turn around in a trailer like that r you’re looking at a non trailering horse for a long long time... for new beginner trailered horses you always want to wrap their legs and put a bumper on their head. I’ve seen horses crack their heads open it’s not fun... keeping horse safe is key. But try to be more secure and let the horse back out a lot slower. You don’t want them to turn around and let them run out... they can feel your fear that’s what the read off of. He probably would have been just fine letting him back out extremely slow.. so to get him to trailer good for now on you need to make it a super positive experience and even start feeding him in that trailer. I used to stick them in a pasture and thr horse couldn’t eat unless they went in that trailer and had dinner in it..
