This new song on Chicago's new album reminded me of my sister's poem she published before she passed away in 2012.
Vickie Lynn Edwards Spivey, published a few poems under the name Victoria Emerson-Edwards.
    Here's one of them:
    THE SEA OF LIFE
Secure am I in my harbor
Although the waters often are rough
Venture I out for excitement and pleasure
    In the sea of life
    For a harbor's not enough.
    A harbor I need,
    This I know is true,
A place to be safe in still waters of blue.
But also need I adventure and passion
And freedom found only flying with the wind,
So set I my sails for uncharted courses
To partake and enjoy all the sea has to give.
    -Victoria Emerson-Edwards

I wish you would be able to convince the band to visit Australia ❤ It would be my life's dream fulfilled to see y'all play in Sydney at Opera House or another venue. Also don't forget to visit Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Alice Springs, Hobart & Darwin ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I Know Right? It’s just the same tired old songs for the last 20 years since 2001. They don’t even play “Look Away” anymore, and that’s one of their most popular songs. Aside for one new song their set lists are so predictable (same old, same old) now.

I assume this album was straight Chicago meaning no session musicians since this was recorded at Lee’s studio, BTW was Lou on this album since most of this recorded before he left and if so, was his lead vocals he made have had deleted or overdubbed?

I would suggest that my bandmates, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane and Jimmy Pankow would prefer to differ. All 3 are on this track. That makes it a Chicago song. That and being on a CHICAGO album. It’s called evolution …

When you write and cut a record with these guys you are a band member. I wish you continued fortune and success, thank you for keeping my favorite band going into the future.

      Chicago has many styles!

    • @jamescastelli
      @jamescastelli 2 роки тому +1

@@neildonell7952 Thanks for saying so. I think many pine not just for "the old days" but resist any form of change. The sound and style of this album is less different than the previous few then, say, 16 was from XIV, don't you think, with mostly the same people. But I think evolution is not always the same as change. The original line-up changed their sound over their first decade together. But new members are not the same sort of evolution. Didn't Jason get heckled when he replaced Peter? As a songwriter myself, a song is very personal. So if you wrote it, it is YOURS, but also Chicago's if they are included and gave it their treatment. You are a member now since '18, I think. So I wonder if Tim Hill thinks as song like Hard Habit To Break is more or less a Chicago song because it was written by outsiders. Is "I'm A Man" a Chicago song? They play it every show!
However, I do get the sentiment. I recently read a quote by Lamm pertaining to Twenty-1 where he said in part: "In spite of all of the success that Chicago has had since 17, for me, [the material has] not really been [authentic to] the band." He was referring to the Diane Warren songs and others, even though she gave them some big hits earlier. The band played on those also, and were included on a studio album, but in that case members' reservations about them suddenly reflect what some fans were thinking as well.
Hope you're with the band a long time. And I hope the personnel changes/departures stop or at least slow down a bit. I think fans and members alike have asked a version of the question: "is it still Chicago if there are no original members?" Bands like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Rush are on record for not dreaming of continuing even if one person was gone, in two cases THE DRUMMER. So personnel change issues are viewed very differently depending on the band. I wonder why that is?
