- The brand new LEGO Creator 31120 3-in-1 Castle set is exciting for kids and a nostgalic ride for adults, the Black Falcons are back! The 6073 Knight's Castle is one of the first LEGO sets of my childhood, and as it was the first castles of the Black Falcons I decided to compare them!

I really feel like the new castle has taken the good from the old product that inspired it, and improved it in many ways! A black falcon army builder box would pretty much fix my only complaint about the new castle!
While I did love the Lego Castle sets as a child, I never had any real nostalgia for them.
Until now.
I wanted that so bad for Christmas. I had one of those mothers that actually paid attention to the ages on the box. Btw I was 7😡 I am going to buy myself this one. I’m 44 😁
The worst part of getting old is realizing what "We can't afford that" means. But that doesn't stop you from eating only bread for a week to get that sweet Lego castle.
@@plebisMaximus especially now, though I guess that’s just the price for the wide range of pieces and higher level of detail put into Lego sets these days.
My mom doesn’t care I got the castle 2021 set and I’m 10
The biggest lego set I’ve ever had was like box 40x30 cm pirates and small island with skull cave and natives and I bought it to my self as a kid from hard made money 😅 from parents I get like only those small sets with few minifigures and couple of bricks, like very simple small sets, it was to expensive for us 🤷🏻♂️ I remember to had catalogs of lego and I was dreaming exactly about this castle I could watch hours in to that catalog 😅
I loved the black falcon sets as a kid. I can’t wait to get this new set to enjoy with my son. Hopefully there are some additional knight character packs available
you could try and get knights off bricks and pieces but they always seem sold out.
I have been lucky enough to get all those old grey Castle sets recently along with lots of Forestmen. Super exicted to get this to.
Hoping LEGO puts out some Knights battlepacks.
man :( ... don't get my hopes up
Where did you get them?
@@aeway_ eBay for about £80 a set but this was a year or 2 ago.
@@PuuberZ That's insanely cheap, they go for about 200 bucks nowadays rip. Great find though
@@aeway_ Few pieces were missing, no boxes. I say £80 but the biggest one was £120. I had to bricklink some of the horses, shields, swords and little bits but I'm happy I got it done.
Agree that there needed to be more figures with the new one. I had that old castle as a kid too.
Love this video! I played castle 6073 when I was a kid. I always played with the black falcon knights and my elderley brother the red lion knights. Now I bought castle 31120 for myself and my kids. In addition, I bought 2 horses and 7 extra falcon knights. So I have 9 falcon knights. One of them has been promoted to be king, using the head, beard, hair and blue crown from king Halbert (Nexo knights). King Halbert's blue crown makes a perfect match with the blue falcon shirts!
I think there was a glow-in-the-dark ghost in the tallest tower of the castle! The new 3-in-1 set looks incredible, so much playability!
The ghost was introduced in 1990 with the crusaders and the black knights.
Love your reviews. The comparison to the old one was pretty cool
Thank you for the great review!
6073 was also one of my first (big) sets, and for that reason I appreciate this comparison very much!
I am seriously tempted by the new set, if only just for the Nostalgia factor :)
Great comparison! The new one kinda steamrolled the competition, but you bring up a great point that the old one came with so many more figures! And this set definitely should have come with a king (or queen!) for the throne
I absolutely love how you physically demonstrated the available playspace with the figures, I'm subscribing in hopes that's something you do often💜
Excellent video! That might have been the first LEGO set I ever built. Loved it! ... I really like this new castle set, and the minifigs look great. Thanks!
That's a nice video, very clear and thoughtful comparison! I'm looking forward to building the new one even more now! I've also become a subscriber so look forward to seeing Matt of your content. Have a good day.
Nice review - short and to the point. With a dash of humour here and there. Just subscribed!!
Oh the nostalgia. I also had that same lego castle. played with it for years. And now my sons play with that same castle when they are at my mom's place. Together with all the other sets I had, when I was a kid.
Great video! I can't wait to get the new castle!
Nice review! Interesting to see them side by side. I think the new one looks a bit disjointed, but I think that just is because they have packed so much detail into it. Love some of the build techniques for bits like the arrow slits. looks like its great value for money!
Nostalgic Feels right now. I still got this set in my garage after 30+ something years. I'm gona try look for it next week and build it
My 5yo son loves playing with my old 6073, just like I did back then.
Glad I came across your channel, been wanting to invest in technique Lego car/vehicle sets!
This is a great comparison and overview
Nice work and nice video dude!
Very nice vidéo, thank you !
I've just found your channel and I'm staying a little longer I think.
This castle is really nicer then I imagined when looking at photos on the lego stie.
Wow! The new one has way more detail.
Cool set! I like the pic of you playing with the horses 😂
3x31120, a few plates, small modifications and you can make a full, beautiful castle with tons of details. I have 6085 personally and I loved this set years ago :)
New legos go hard on details, but old ones made work your mind and left more place to your imagination. I liked to build big castles of my own, using the different sets I had to do it.
Hey, my Overwatch 75972 Dorado Showdown set had those candles. This was a nice video, I had no idea there was so many details in this set. I would add horses, king, archers, fire pieces, and have to make Zelda stuff.
28 and just bought the creator castle. I was always disappointed that I didnt see any of the 80s type castles on the shelf when I was a kid in the early 2000s! Lol
Jó bemutató, gratulálok Balázs !
The waterwheel and hammer reminds me of a similar concept from the Medieval Village build. Wouldn’t be surprised if Lego carried it over.
I'm so lucky, that I still have both black falcon castles .
I had one of the original castles, but it might have been a different one since I had also some of the other soldiers! It was great!!!
I had a big nostalgia for these when LEGO knights kingdom came out and other on
Nice video! Regards from the Netherlands
You're absolutely right! It's so frustrating to me to but a Lego set with thousands of pieces but with almost no mini-figures! I really don't understand why they do it. As a kid, building was fun - sure. But without any minifigures to play with - it was kindda boring, and I can see the excitement of my kids when I give them a minifigure to play with (I don't let them by theirselves because they are too young [2 & 3 years old] and the younger one just LOVES to rip their parts off xD)
I have both sets too (and 6074), finished building 31120 a few days back (not the alternative builds yet, I don't want to break it down already). I really like the set, the dragon is a masterpiece indeed. I was afraid we'd get a solid 1-piece '90's dragon. Only thing I am missing is a quiver for the archer (though one or two extra soldiers would have been even better ;) ).
My brother and/or cousin must have had the middle/second set- it was built around a courtyard, with several towers, with the ghost in one of them. I think there was a prison cell with a secret escape from it too!
I like the old one better as it was simple to add on too. I think if there was a set in the middle of them both that would be best set!
Nice video.
Good review, set looks better live than any promotion material from lego...
Great video have a great day
I has this set And Is one of my most favorite sets, btw i little bit modify tree(branches)because of space
wow nostalgia
both great sets i like castles
I too like castles, which is why I’m so glad that Lego castles are making a bit of a comeback.
I JUST SUBSCRIBED !!!! How I never came across you earlier is behind me, Whats up with that UA-cam ? Great video !!! I will definitely watch more. Thank You
I personally love the newer one better. That’s not to say that the older one is bad.
congrats on the shoutout on unbrickme
@@Grandmaquil thanks man.
I do too, because it has really clever color usage
I would certainly hope it’s better given it’s cost.
I'm interested in getting the 3 in 1 castle. I do wish the roof and tudor style parts were black, instead of blue and brown, just to tie it back to the older set a bit more.
Never realized the Fortrex from nexo knights was a near copy of this original design as well when my son got it a few years ago
The candle came out with the Harry Potter sets afaik.
Also: great review Balázs, greetings from Hungary ;)
Yeah i like them both
One of the little hidden details in this set is that there are little mouse holes around the castle for the mouse to use.
The old ones will always win because of nostalgia, but in all fairness they used to be quite empty, this new one packs so much accessories and inside decoration. A shame there's only 2 black falcon minifigs (+1 random minifig)
Yea that random mini fig is really odd
@@princevlad4195 That minifig looks like it was taken by mistake from some Pirates set and added to this set. Strange that no one from Lego noticed how odd this minifig looks in this castle.
@@kruso432 it does look like a pirate. I think lego went cheap with the third minifig, when they could have added another knight
One thing that made a kid cry.. there are no horses in the new set (?!?!) and only 2 knights. Very poor knight’s castle..
Can you show the 3 different models attached to each other to be a mega castle like official described?
Thanks a lot for your side by side comparison!
I love the classic Castle series. Too bad the prices of the old stuff (on the second hand market) are way more than the inflation correction you calculated in the video. Therefore I am now even more convinced to buy two of the new set, instead of 1 of the old one for the same price (despite the high nostalgic value).
I need to save some $$$ to get several of the new set as well!
Bought the set I prefer it to the old unit but 27 years on it naturally is more sophisticated for our market/ It appeals to adults as well as kids And definitely more value for money
i wish we had that 3-1 castle as a child
How tf would this be a challenge.. I loved the old style of instruction. You actually had to think!
Yes, it seems Lego thinks today's children are much less inteligent compared to the kids from 80's and 90's.
How much are those castle wall panels worth? I have loads I might sell
I actually had that set from 1984 :D
When fully extended, how long is the castle build?
I have a bunch of castle sets from the 80s. One of them is the black fortress. I also just picked up 5 mediveal castles for 69.50 at walmart. In store clerance. Two of those sets are for my brother. I'm looking forward to buidling a MOC that requires the other three.
Only 69? Why you did? They cost so much.
My cousin and/or my brother had the original castle!
I have collected almost all 1984-1987 sets and now I'm going to purchase even this set and the new Blacksmith shop. I agree with you: we need more minifigures! Maybe they have gone a minute away, in the blacksmith's set!
A question: to make all three sets included in this box, do you need to buy either 2 or 3 boxes?
I loved lego castle so fun I going be making of super lego Logan Adventures gonna be so good
I just miss the fact that before they use to put so much more minifigs and soldiers...
Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s the Lego castle lineup had been reduced to Duplo style facades and Power Ranger looking “knights”. Fortunately I had my old classic sets to hold me over. Around 2010/11 things changed and Lego really began putting out some nice looking castles with piece counts that dwarf the older sets at affordable prices. Although I still love my childhood sets, objectively Lego is better today than it’s ever been. The consumer gets so many more pieces and details now at price points that are competitive with 90’s pricing. Case in point, my grandparents bought me 6090 Royal Knight’s Castle in 1995 for $100. It was a big set at 712 pieces. Today you can buy this set for the same price and it clocks in at 1,426 pieces. The minifig count is certainly lower but when you factor in the inflation since 1995, today’s set has much more value.
the old set wasn t bad at all, I think the Castle and kingdom werent that bad too. I just hate to see lego all go with those franchise...
Large number of parts in today's sets are made in China, and Lego probably pays Chinese workers much less then it paid European workers in 80s and 90s. In that way Lego can today offer much more (cheaply) produced parts in a box, but I am not sure the quality of today's parts is equal to those from 80s and 90s.
I had the old grey Castles sets. I loved them at the time but even then I was disappointed that they used a large Castle part that makes most of the set up. the Older yellow Castle that I have also was fantastic because you could brake it down and make any thing you wanted out of it. Where as the grey sets had these large grey Castle parts that well you could only really use for Castles. But that new Castle makes me want it lol :) And I agree it should come with more figures as least 3 more minimum. But its a lovely set none the less really nice.
As a kid, I used those grey Castle panels/walls for all sorts of things, not just for castles. I built elevator shafts with them in tall buildings, I used them for tunnel walls (for vehicles and trains), I used them for columns which hold a bridge, etc... They are very useful for quickly building tall structures, long walls, columns, etc. and of course for castles :)
Is this set not out in the US yet? I can’t find it anywhere
Check lego.com, might only come later to the US
hehehe when you say castle I hear kessel hehe you know spice mining planet from Star Wars :P
Who are the enemies of the Black Falcons? I had Minifigs with the Lion Crest when I was a kid but I've actually seen a whole bunch of other crests at my job, probably non-cannon though
They were in different sets paired with other factions, I've seen them fighting with the Forestmen for example.
Up until Forestmen showed up in Lego catalogs, Black Falcons had only Lion knights (Crusaders) as enemies. Sometimes they lived peacefully with each other (like in 6067 Guarded Inn, where Black Falcon knight is visiting the Inn guarded by Lion Knights), and sometimes they attacked each other (like in 6062 Battering Ram).
I'm so glad we're getting a real castle soon! 31120 is a fun throwback but I don't like the DIY feel of the Creator line.
why not combine both?
Lego has had spells of releasing Medieval sets, then spells of not, then repeat. Since they released this new castle after awhile without medieval sets, hopefully they will release more
Finally! After so much crap, LEGO shows that they can still build nice sets that are probably worth their price.
Hi, those discoloured grey bricks can be restored by a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide in an old stoppered glass jar placed in direct sunlight or radiator in winter after a few days they good to go. Ok for all light coloured bricks.
How long will those restored bricks look good? Would discoloration return after some time, even if all bricks are kept in dark? I read somewhere that discoloration usually returns sooner or later.
Hey there! Could someone indicate to me what the black and white monster truck is called/set number, please?
Thank you very much!!

@@RacingBrick I appreciate it man! Have a great one!
I had that old castle. It provided me so many hours of entertainment. The new castle is very nice, but to my mind it doesn't have the right aesthetic. It certainly is a more interesting build - I think the old sets were limited in part by how complicated the instructions could be - you couldn't have produced instructions for the modern sets in the old days, at least not cheaply. I am always surprised when I compare similar models from 30 years ago to today's - the instructions are so much thicker now. So to my nostalgic mind the old castle has a certain "castley" flavour that is hard to beat, but the new set is probably a better Lego set overall, especially as a Creator set. And the new Black Falcon prints are so, so good. They make the old BFs look like caricatures. Really they are so good it's maddening. I used to love the Black Falcons but now they're revealed to be trash, and the neo-black-falcons are the real deal.
Question will you bay more sets to build a bigger castle?
Probably later when it will be on sale
I love Lego and I was born in 1984.
agree, they really cheaped out on the minifigures. that 3rd minifigure looks more like a pirate. a few more quality minifigures and horses this set would of been on point.
I'm not sure I'm going to be able to stop myself from buying this
I think a comparison with set 7094 makes more sense. And they were at a similiar price tag.
That one certainly has more similarities, but lacks the Black Falcons :) And it'd be ~30% more expensive nowadays.
Now combine the two sets!
The idea for a comparsion:
6075 (wolfpack tower) vs
6078 (royal drawbridge) vs
7079 (drawbridge defence)
Great idea, but I don't own any of those sets unfortunately
I really like new castle but if it has campfire as Separate build it would be perfect
Wait, what about the original yellow castle from 1978?
There were several other castle sets, I don't have them all
Aside from Minifigures and horses, the new castle is way better.
I mean it looks better..... but you can’t really compare them. There’s an almost 40 year difference.
Way better yes , but way more expensive and complex ..... We used to make tons of castle with all the kit and it was quite intuitive before ... sometime too much isnt better.
@@thedicktator40 The new castle is cheaper, considering inflation.
@@parazels83 if you consider the fact that most people from that time were paying the original price and probably still have the set or pieces. Than technically this is more expensive.
@@squiddysquidster802 That's not how inflation works.
Great set. I have already received one for a very good price. In Russia, in one of the online stores, it cost me a discount of $ 70. I wish I had ordered two sets at once. If finances permit, I will order two more. It will be possible to build a large game castle and there will be more figures. Indeed, the king and the princess are sorely lacking. But here, as always, our "friends" from China came to the rescue! )))
why do the new black faclons have grey helmets lol
What is your favorite lego castle set?
Gosh dang it. Stop convincing me to buy sets. You’re going to drive me bankrupt😭
In my oppinion the new one is too colorful compared to the old castle. Less yellow would help to make it more like a revival. And yes, where did the minifigs get lost? And why there is no quiver. Yes, it's a more modern version, but still with not enough interior details.
A better comparison would have been 31120 vs 6074. Do that one next.
I talked about that in the video. That set is not very different and I don't have it so I won't buy it just to have a slightly different comparison with a very similar conclusion.
@@RacingBrickOkay thanks, What if you combined them?
@@Sir_Adam I wouldn't, they really don't match
Ima make the skeleton a knight
Its not crow on the gatetower. Crow is on the blavksmith roof. On the hate towet we got A BLACK FALCON.
How much was the 6073?
In 1984? $27 :)
expensive
because i never buy expensive stuff
@@RacingBrick Thanks
You can't really compare the two...
I find the modern creator style cool, but it makes it hard for younger children to build own stuff..
When I was like 4 years old, I had the 6080 castle, and it was so much fun to build it differently each time, because it was so simple and approachable in its construction methods.
As a kid, I especialy liked the fact that you could connect 6080 with many different medival Lego buildings and castles from that time (by using Technic pins at the and of castle walls). Some real genius from Lego decided in 1984 to make all castle sets modular, and my brother and I had so much fun connecting our 6080 castle with 6041 Armor Shop and other sets. In that way, you could make much bigger castles, and arrange the fortifications as you like. Sadly, Lego has not created anything similar after the 80s.
'80's set are much more wonderful!
