The first time I heard from this amp was reading about a Scott Henderson "dog party" recording. He said he plugged his fender 60s stratocaster in a maxon od-9 straight throught this matchless amplifier. I can say this amp has one of the best tones I ever heard in my life.
Very responsive and dynamic. Impressive demo. I've always shied away from guitars with gold hardware, because it seems to tarnish so much. But on this one, it just adds to the patina.
I bought a black beauty in 1979..it still in fine condition..I bought it from a friend who got it as collateral for a 500 loan.it was mint.my friend called me and ask me if i wanted it for 500..i jumped on it site unseen..ive cherished it all these years..i always had trouble with the date code so this year i looked at backside of the pickups and found out it was made on my 19 birthday in 1979..We were meant to be together..
Had one, and because of the fat boy frets had tuning issues. I tried everything but discovered that raising the Stop Bar to the same Break Angle from the nut to the tuning posts, helped a lot. The Les Paul has been criticized For the Break Angle but an extensive study shows us that most ancient stringed instruments had even more radical BA's at the tuning posts. Unlike the 2 Piece "Bolt On Neck" the Les Paul's tone is driven and then translated into and down the neck and into the body from that preload on the nut. (most good guitarist will confess that; They Can actually FEEL the note in their finger board hand) Matching that Preload Angle at The Other end (stop bar) allowed a more balanced ability for the Bent string to find its place rather that slipping up beyond the nut where many thought their tuning issues were. We also keep in mind that a Jazz Guitarist designed it and there are very few bends used in Jazz. signed; prune juice and viagra
That sounds incredible! I've got a '78 Les Paul Custom that still has the original flat frets, and they are a bit of a challenge as you say. I've thought about re-fretting, but I never can decide so I make do with it as is. Mine is well over 11 pounds. It's a boat anchor!
I made the refret....I should have went stainless like a 6105 ot 6150 but I have fender sized frets in...and they are great comparibly speaking. Still much better than the "fretless wonder".
Ok so I knew I needed a Matchless Chieftain as soon as he plugged into it ! Damn it sounds good ! It's got its own thing going on. Would love to hear it with a tube screamer. .
I have a 1971 Black Custom sitting next to me. The only difference is it has witch-hat knobs all the numbers worn off. The neck is kind of thin but perfect. It had a headstock break and has no volute now.
Hello friends! given your incredible knowledge of these tools, can I ask you which product do you use to polish it? my black beauty of 73. when I pass the damp cloth it immediately becomes dull and hazy gray, it's horrible. I do not know what to do. thank you so much!! sorry my english translated by google Paolo, Italy
I love the idea of the custom, but they always feel heavy and clunky to me. I actually tried another 57 reissue Monday, but naaaaaa. Actually this guitar is not priced too badly and sounds killer with the Matchless. Arron seems to like a very bright sound, which can be a bit brittle, but great playing man. I need to try out an AC30 voiced amp. I was in a guitar shop in Truro a few years back and heard this killer sound and it was a guy trying an AC30. Some good players in Cornwall UK.
Great sound! I usually prefer Fender amp demos so we can here the clean sound. A lot of demos dime the amp and Les Paul and circumvent the clean sound.
I thought I read Scott Henderson used one of the *C30 amps? It's strange, on hearing this clip I was thinking how much Joe Bonamassa might like this amp.
Yep! Who would not want it? Anyways, not being a wealthy guitars collector, for the price I would buy me a nice Fender 15 watts tube amp, AND one or two killer USA made axes (tele & strat with fralins or other great pups)... Les Paul himself prefered the black all mahogany LP over the maple top ones...
THAT is breathtaking. Perhaps my favorite sounding combo I have heard here.
through an old fender twin I played my 71 equally as amazing.
Go to the pick of the day 1958 gold top and this Chieftain it sounds amazing....
Surely one of the most beautiful and iconic guitars ever made.Through a Matchless? Priceless.
Wowwww beautiful Guitar and presentation. Thank you so much, from Brazil, United Kingdom.
Sounds killer! I got chills and yes they were multiplying.
And you're ... " losing control" ?
Too funny!

Aaron killed it, man... That first riff is pure rock n roll.
Kudos, guys.
what an Amazing Gibson custom ,,,i about cried when i saw it,,,nothing is more beautiful
When I close my eyes, that’s the Les Paul sound I hear! I love Les Paul Customs.
I knew this was going to sound epic.
This is how the guitar should sound, without a digital rig, pure skills 😉✌️
That guitar is in my bucket list it's gorgeous... love the demo, Aaron always makes me wanna grab my guitar and crank the amp all the way up
Damn that amp sounds good! And that Black Beauty has more growl than most Gibson's I've heard. Bridge almost sounds like a P90. Killer combo!
damn that sounds good.
What an amazing pairing. Stellar tone and playing
I was hoping for some Frampton licks, but I must say I'm not disappointed! Well done!
Sell them together - they sound so good as a team it'd be a shame to separate them.
Very responsive and dynamic. Impressive demo. I've always shied away from guitars with gold hardware, because it seems to tarnish so much. But on this one, it just adds to the patina.
Very nice LP Jay, and that amp's a beauty! Killer tone🎸🎶
Sounds amazing. Best demo I've heard in awhile!! The customs and ebony fretboards have a great, less woody sound to them that's ear pleasing!
Eric is always good but since quarantine every demo has been absolutely on fire!

Fantastic. That amp rocks too.
Love guitars that's my hobbies playing with music thanks sharing..
unreal playing! sounds so good
I would love to have that guitar. I was born in 71. Turn 50 in December. If only I had the money.
Had one, and because of the fat boy frets had tuning issues.

This setup in the hands of that individual there is really nice sounding
Hail to the Chieftain!
Ok so I knew I needed a Matchless Chieftain as soon as he plugged into it ! Damn it sounds good ! It's got its own thing going on. Would love to hear it with a tube screamer. .
What an instrument!!
Aaron is a brilliant musition
Dream combo
My all time favorite Custom type. Chieftain was something I only read about (Guitar Shop Magazine). This was late '90s.
Both sounded great here.
Sounds great !
I want it more!
Cool player ...
I need a chieftain. So bummed I missed out on this :(
I have a 1971 Black Custom sitting next to me. The only difference is it has witch-hat knobs all the numbers worn off. The neck is kind of thin but perfect. It had a headstock break and has no volute now.
My favourite Model Gibson.
Matchless!!!!!!! You won't get an LP Custom to sound like that elsewhere.
With that tone I can't believe he didn't dial in some Neil. "Down By The River"

The Amp sounds amazing...I actually thought the price was a bit cheap..:)
I have an owners manual that belongs to a 71 Custom.
Very nice, Its not on your website. Is it sold?
Wow did that sell in one day? I was curious about the price.
Nice demo! I regret selling my Gibson CS LP. LP is heavy in general.
That master volume knob at its max 😂
Don't see the guitar listed on your site? Is it already gone?
If both guitar and amp don't sell quickly after that demo I'll be amazed. Great playing and tone.
Thinking bout buying 78 custom second.any idea if 2nd devalues price much?
The intro was chilling , sounds like Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
👍🇺🇸❤GIBSON 498T OR 500T....490R....ARE THE BEST HUMBUCKERS EVER INVENTED.......EBONY & MAPLE FRETBOARDS ARE MY FAVORITE AS WELL XOXOXOXOXOX.........
Hi, can you tell me what type of pickups are on 1971 les Paul custom?
@@niktavell7267 👍🇺🇸❤490R & 498T (alnico 2 magnets)......most likely & hopefully 😁
Does anyone know a pedal that could get this amp sound?? Maybe a fuzz? PLZZZ

Would have liked to I have heard some of the amp specs.
Great sound! I usually prefer Fender amp demos so we can here the clean sound. A lot of demos dime the amp and Les Paul and circumvent the clean sound.

I want it!!!!!
I played one years ago and it was fabulous! I wish I had the one that you have in your shop. Awesome! ps.. the heavier the better!
Careful what you wish for. My '78 Custom is pushing 12 pounds!
Nice
Why do some of the truss rods say Les Paul Custom and others say Custom?
Pickup covers look suspect - No dimples around the pole pieces.
Unbelievable
You ever gonna play the damn thing?
the amp buzz cauz isn't a marshall
Are you in the Chop zone? You guys ok
Y si uno es Peon y bueno qué precio le hacen?.
Having lived and played during those years,, I can tell everyone those were crapp Les Pauls as compared to the 50's era.
#mickronson
And what's the absurd price of the day?
I just clicked this to say, the thumbnail is bad. You shouldn't lean a guitar on the tuning pegs... Come on.
Ho hum. Sounds like another basic fender BB amp
Very heavy model 😭
Sure glad my friend didnt play guitar
That guitar is in my bucket list it's gorgeous... love the demo, Aaron always makes me wanna grab my guitar and crank the amp all the way up!!
