A short video just to catch up with you and to show you some modifications I've made to my Robens Starlight 1 tent (jump to 2 min 38 sec) which I hope will make it lighter and more reliable.

It's officially "Lyme disease", named after the town of Lyme, Connecticut, USA, where it was first discovered. I have tested "inconclusive" three times, and have gone through the doxycycline treatment each time. I had developed swollen, sore joints which were warm to the touch and EXTREMELY tender. I've had no long-term effects, thankfully.
Contrary to common belief, ticks can survive through the winter under deep leaf cover, and can attach to clothing if you happen to disturb the leaf cover.
Thanks for reminding your subscribers so early in the hiking season.👍
The three times I was treated, the doctors were hesitant to administer the cure, because I had not seen an attached tick, nor the telltale ring around a bite site.
Interesting Daniel, glad you're Ok. Touch wood I've dodged a bullet. !
Andrew, interesting mod as I know full well the original straps on the corner poles do retain some water (therefore weight) when wet. I think adding the line tensioners will help with pitching and tension. Keep yourself safe with that tick bite. Looking forward to seeing more of your Robens and how you get on with it. ATB Andy
Good you spotted the tick bite early. My mate had quite a bad time with lymes (after a Cobbler wildcamp) however he sat on what was basically a full scale RAF spitfire decal for 4 months on his thigh before being forced to go to the Docs. Early treatment seems to be absolutely key. Hard to believe the wee buuuugers are out and about just now. Murray from Scotland’s mountains had a similar experience. He’s fighting fit again.
Yes I think it was Murray's vid that made me more pro-active and go get it seen. Better safe than..n'all that. A
Hi Andrew, brilliant thanks good mods, I will look to doing that when I receive mine in the near future, hope the tick bite doesn’t develop into something horrible,
Stay safe
Thanks Paul, happy camping !
Oh dear...wish you all the best!
Morning Andy could i ask how much weight you think was removed with changing fro the straps to dyneema, I think the dry weight is one number but if the straps get weight they will weight a lot more. thanks for the tips
Only a few grams I recall to be honest but I'm a bit of a gram counter and it is more on the chunky weight side, but in some ways that's it's strength, literally 😁
thanks sir@@AndrewParkOutdoors I carry wine so dont count grams just units
Hi Andrew, naively I assumed that ticks would only be a problem later in the spring! Wow, that's some good information. Cheers and hope it comes to nothing. all the best. Paul
Thanks Paul, I wasn't expecting it either !
Shocked that it is up that far at this time of the year. It is pretty rampant here in the Bavarian Alps but only from springtime on to Autumn . I have had it, but luckily The med’s worked. You look a tad tired in the vid… hopefully you recover quick👍
Thanks, yes definitely slightly under the weather, but that could be Covid exhaustion ! :-)
@@AndrewParkOutdoors let’s hope that exhaustion fades away soon for all of us. I had the starlight but only used it once and sold it. But I did not give up on Robens… I went the opposite end and bought their Woodview 600. Not recommended for backpacking 😁
Hi Andrew - nasty business with the tick bite. I hope the antibiotics are only precautionary and you are feeling better now. It’s made me think about the wearing of shorts in the summer which are my normal attire 10 months of the year. Thanks for the vid - ATB Paul
Keep wearing the shorts Paul , they hide in the dark :-)
Surprised to see the tics out so early , glad you spotted it and hopefully the meds will sort it ... Have you updated your gopro yet latest firmware is out ? its better but still not 100% clean audio atb Dave
Hi Dave, that's the replacement cam! Ill check for an update again, think I'm jinxed ;-)
I have this tent my tension strap buckles are upside down so they are useless I just pull tight on the pegging points and peg down the straps at the ends. Also one of my mini poles needs to have a skewer inside it as the end has come off.My tent pole broke after 17 days of use in mild weather but is holding okay with a splint and Duct tape. The 4 end poles have to be tensioned to one side with bungee cords and 1 tent peg each otherwise the tent sags at the end. This tent is okay but certainly needs improvement and the porch could be bigger too.
Wow Carl, your sounds like a bag of spanners ! :-)
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Indeed but Robens customer service wasn't helpful I certainly won't be buying from then again.
Amazing tent....But the "1" is bloody small ! Ok for 2-3 nights if you are not expecting to carry a lot of gear and store in in the tent with you .Handles strong winds well if pitched correctly . the "2" might be the better bet for many . But again....even thats not a real 2 man tent with lots of gear! .But perfect for one man who wants to do more than just sleep
Oh eeek I did not think ticks could be active in winter and not to mention the cold you have up there, I'm in Dorset so now I will be careful. Did you have long trousers on when you got bitten? Hope the antis work and it does not develop into anything.
Yes, two pairs! This must have been an alpha male that survived last season ;-)
Good mods I like it! Wish you all the best with the tic bite 😔 wanted to get your opinion on a lightwave t10 trail tent. I really like it and am thinking bout getting one but lack of vents is putting me off.
Hi Lewis, never tried one ( or see one in the flesh ) but it looks solid. If it's Inner first pitch that's a minor point off for me but I'd still try one. A
@@AndrewParkOutdoors thanks Andrew. Well you can actually pitch it fly first, all as one, and inner first for added strength. Its an update on the older one. Think I'm gonna try it 👍can always send it back or sell it on.
Great video Andy! 😁 Hope you get well again soon though 😬
It's the pills that are making me feel crap, I forgot to take one and felt so much better 😅
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Good to hear!
Hope ur OK those bloody ticks horrible wee things. 👌👍
Cheers Tracy
Hope it doesn’t develop Andrew. Like the modifications 👍
Thanks Gordon.
Permethrin spray! Sees the little blighters off!
