Yes, working on the sounds feels different to speaking with feeling / or just speaking as oneself. Maybe ask a friend if you can speak in the accent for 15 minutes with them. Or read and study British stuff more mayube in order to feel more at home with the accent. It can happen fast, or take years to feel true with an accent, but that isnt the point, the point is to be true, and secondly do the accent. Use my website's e-mail if you've questions please. J
@John Doe the one who says cringe out of context is cringe, what are you, some sped wanker who just learned that word from Jake Paul? Get outta here y'penchboy.
Yes, you're right. But there are many different accents and some people speak all of them more casually, or in a hurry, missing out some letters in the way you've noticed. But to begin with it's best to say everything clearly, and in the kind of accent most actors (and people learning English) need to learn the 't' needs to be said. Odd questions can always be asked best on the 'Contact' page of my website Windsor-Cunningham.com at no charge, and if you ever need more help I teach on Skype. John

I just finished watching these three videos. I've always tried to impersonate a British accent, but living for most of my life in the Midwest and Southeastern USA, I've always had a hard time shedding my inherited accents. I'm starting to study linguistics at college and I find dialects really interesting, but I haven't taken a class on them yet. Watching your videos is helping me distinguish the sounds in American and British English, especially the second one... this third one was a bit more obvious for me since the types of sound distinctions you were addressing are vowels you see in almost any dialect of English, so I know their IPA symbols. I think it would be interesting to learn about every English language accent, but that might have to wait for a formal class.

Thanks for kind words. Don't me adding this, please - and only because I've coached so many for British roles some of whom get the job - ! - and my point is that yes, the 'accent' may be useful to show off in a few lines, especially if you include the 'attitude' of being British (overpolite, clever with words, confident of the past, etc), but what really makes a performance fun to watch is if the actor makes full sense of the lines, just as if the character were American. Thank you again, John Windsor-Cunningham
Thank you so much for making these videos. I am playing the role of Anne Boleyn in my school play and was struggling for a long time with the accent. I lost a lot of confidence in my acting because of it, and even worked with a vocal coach one on one to try and help me. However, that did not work, but your videos really did! Your approach is so simple yet really effective and easy for me to comprehend, I can now say that I have my confidence back and can hopefully do Mrs.Anne Boleyn some justice!

Thank you very much Mr. Windsor-Cunningham! I found your videos quite helpful. A non-native English speaker here, whose accent has been described as her own, leaning slightly towards American, but I have been exposing myself to the beautiful British accent and its regional varities for a few years and would love to master it. I can do it in my head while reading silently, time to take it to the next level!
Thanks for kind words. Seems to me you may have found a way, by doing it silently, of getting your voice to be just the way that you want, and to feel natural. I do coaching on Skype for people who want to fine-tune, and can always be contacted on the website for that, but also to answer odd questions for free, so do feel free to ask. On Windsor-Cunningham.com Thanks again.

I'm from Tunisia and I really thank you sir for your extremely helpful videos and I am so glad that I watched them all you are such an inspirational teacher ! thank you again
Well thanks for the idea, but I don't believe that accents are part of serious actors' needs. Serious actors need to understand irony in Pinter and love in Chekhov and power n Shakespeare, and comedy techniques, and Meisner techniques and dozens of other things, and anyway if they need a different accent they can come to me privately This is the accent American actors are most asked to do, and most casting nowadays is done with actors who have the accent of the character they are playing by being born with it. So "Comedy in Shakespeare" will be my next one. Sorry. John Windsor-Cunningham
Wow! This one helped indefinitely! I was struggling after part 2 but this cleared a lot of it up. Now everyone at the Wal-Mart in Johnsburg, Illinois had a British man asking how his accent sounded haha

I really have to thank you ! All your videos are so helpful and I really improved my british accent ^^ It´s hard to get a british accent just by learning it in school, because not all our teachers really know how to do it authentically themselves. So I´m glad you decided to upload your videos.

Thank you so very much! I'm in a play coming up called "The Real Inspector Hound" and for the play we are required to have a convincing British accent. This has helped me considerably and I look forward to showing off my new skills at practice soon.
I've been told to expose myself to British every day for my play I'm in, and I now can't stop sounding British and reading everything in a British accent
Well, if you've got used to an accent for the part, remember that every line of a part cannot, of course, be about an accent, so may people would say that what an audience needs to know is what the lines really mean, so to keep working on the actual script.. But,in fact, the secret, mysterious path to finding the truth of any part can be found in many ways, so maybe you've already found it! J.
As A New Zealander this really helped ! we do have similar pronunciation for example like can’t/Ah/Uh but i still have that little New Zealand twist, but practise makes perfect, THANKYOU !!

I have to do a British accent for my audition for 39 Steps so thank you very much this video series helped me immensely.

Well, I didn't get into acting afterall! But thanks to you sir, I can do a flawless British accent
I'm a Persian living in US California. Since, I have watched his videos I have got RP British accent and no one believes me here that I'm not from England .
Thank you sir!!
You're welcome! Windsor-Cunningham.com
Highly efficient and quick way to learn the accent! Thank you!!
My pleasure indeed to listen & watch your videos. Thank you, Sir!
I'm from Tunisia and I really thank you sir for your extremely helpful videos and I am so glad that I watched them all you are such an inspirational teacher ! thank you again
you're so fucking good at what you're doing, you should do more videos about other accents aswell.
@@NewYorkActingCoach No problem. i still think you're so god damn great at teaching acting
Wow! This one helped indefinitely! I was struggling after part 2 but this cleared a lot of it up. Now everyone at the Wal-Mart in Johnsburg, Illinois had a British man asking how his accent sounded haha
HOLY COW! I just watched the three videos, and MAN, I sound SO MUCH BETTER! I'm auditioning for a play with a British Accent next week and this was such a great a great help! Thank you! Like, seriously, so much better! Thank you so much!
This is amazingly helpful! I am the leading lady for my one act play in high school and it's set in Britain, and with me being a deep southern girl in Texas this helps so much! Thank you!
These three videos have been a huge help.
You're welcome! John (www.Windsor-Cunningham.com)

You're welcome. Suggestions for more welcomed / best via the email on my website. J
Funny thing is, apparently when doing my British accent I already do most of the things shown in these videos. This helped to master those though. Thanks!
I find it very helpful to watch your mouth posture to properly understand how these are said. Tip for my fellow actors.
I know I'm late but, it's like it's just relaxing your jaw. In America we over pronounce a lot. I just relax my jaw.. I think I'm getting it kinda right haha!
Thank You very much for all three videos about the accent! They are incredibly informative and educational. I'm currently studying the language and I'm eager to master both accents (British and American). Your videos have helped me a lot!
I have to learn a British accent for a play that opens next week, and I'm playing Shakespeare. This has helped out immensely. Thank you
Great job! Even been italian (aiming to speak British English) I learned quite a lot from your videos...
I am Korean and I always wanted to learn British accent but barely improved it because.. it was harder for me to catch some subtle differences between American accent and British accent. But this video helps me A LOT to see words not in american way. This video series are great, thank you!

I really have to thank you ! All your videos are so helpful and I really improved my british accent ^^ It´s hard to get a british accent just by learning it in school, because not all our teachers really know how to do it authentically themselves. So I´m glad you decided to upload your videos.
You're welcome! If you mean that you're at DRAMA 'school' and you want more specific help get in touch through my website (www.Windsor-Cunningham.com) on the 'Contact' page or my direct email jwcactor@yahoo.com not here as I rarely see messages here, please. I charge as little for coaching as I can, so, well that's all I can add. You sound as if you dont need any more help anyway. John

Thank you so very much! I'm in a play coming up called "The Real Inspector Hound" and for the play we are required to have a convincing British accent. This has helped me considerably and I look forward to showing off my new skills at practice soon.
you speak clean ,british accent.. Awesome senor!!
My GOD your videos are SO HELPFUL!
His voice is amazing
Very kind. John Windsor-Cunningham
As A New Zealander this really helped ! we do have similar pronunciation for example like can’t/Ah/Uh but i still have that little New Zealand twist, but practise makes perfect, THANKYOU !!
I'm in a role playing group, and this helped remarkably to get me into character.
