Sharapova was one of the most polite tennis players and always gave a good handshake win or loose
She is is also very famous for her caring persona. So much so that she always reminded the umpire to check her opponent’s blood pressure.

I remember in their 2006 match, Jelena accidentally hit Serena with a ball that was out of play (just hitting it to the other side), and at the handshake Serena asked her “Why’d you hit that ball at me?” and they had a brief discussion that ended in smiles. Jelena had a history of this, I remember she did the same to Davenport in China the next year and Davenport complained to the umpire about it (“We’re not children”) 😂
Jelena just said in recent interview that she didn't remember that she won 4 times vs Serena +, basically said that Serena is best one in tennis, and when asked about recent womens tennis, she said she won't speak about this topic and finished the interview. Last words from interview:

Between 2004-2007 when Serena was struggling with injuries, Jelena used to give her a lot of trouble, at a point they were tied in their head to head. The media was so quick back then to highlight how Jankovic was a problem for the Williams sisters. But when Serena took her game to the next level from 2012 onwards, it became a one sided rivalry. I wish most of the top players from the 2000s continued to play beyond 2012. Serena would have improved her head to head against them even more.
That is not really true because Jelena gave Serena a lot of problems after 2007. She won in 2008 and 2010, and she was close to win against her twice in 2013. So even against peak Serena she was able to take the match in 3 sets. And against Venus it was even better.

Jelena was not the same player after 2008. Her level 2009 and onward compared to that from 2005 to 2008 just dropped. She did have a few good runs here and there but nowhere near her 2007 and 2008.
