I agree, that sub woofer is a little sub standard, but it sounds great, as long as the customer doesn't drive it with too much power. That iPad bezel looks BEAUTIFUL!!!! I really like that. The way it slides in, then, slides down onto the mini-USB port for charging and data transfer is absolutely genius. Almost a "factory" look.(I'm glad that router didn't take material off of you) The sub woofer box looks like the damping is just right. The cone excursion looks like it doubles, for each octave the frequency of the tone goes down. If that's happening at a steady amplitude, that indicates that the box is well matched to the Thiel/small parameters of the driver. You don't always need a super-expensive driver to get good sound quality. It just needs to be loaded in an ideal acoustic environment, and it looks(and sounds)like you've achieved that. Good work!

This is how all Alpine stuff is now!!, When I was a boy and someone said they had an Alpine deck in their ride (they didn't make subs then) We thought they were rich and had the epitome of all decks even better than clarion!! But as we can see Japan has fallen from their throne of electronic prowess to the gutters. Which is something they have had issues with in the past according to Wikipedia regarding the company. "At the Alpine Museum in Japan there is a model "7307" radio/tape recorder (circa 1981)[2] shot by an American (Roger Holdaway of SpeakerWorks in Orange Ca) using a .45-caliber pistol at a distance of 4 feet. The owner, frustrated with the performance of the product, shot the unit and returned it to Alpine. This gesture brought home to Alpine the importance of product quality, and as a result they spent US$25 million on a testing and evaluation centre in Iwaki-city, Japan." So apparently the have allowed the bean counters dictate business again. Too bad eh? Same with Fujitsu Ten (Eclipse). Sad days indeed. Motorola should step back up to the plate they created (the one that gave them their start and namesake) and make car audio great again! and maybe create an American Production facility and create some jobs as well! Sure, that Alpine sub isn't a Sundown, or an EMF, but, you don't need the most expensive driver to get good sound. What matters most, is that the sub woofer is loaded in a box, that matches the Thiel/Small parameters of the driver. This well damped ported box seems to be ideal. The only thing is, that the customer needs to know, that it won't handle as much power as a high end driver would. If he's careful, this can sound excellent, even though it can't be played as loud.

18:50 Douglas you need to work safer. An injury is going to slow you down. Work smarter. Use the cnc to make a holder and hot glue it to the bezel.

I like to see the polyfill to lower the box frequency. I bought a box tuned to around 39 hz and I was going to lengthen the port but with box volume losses it's a diminishing returns type of thing. I used high loft polyfill batting stapled in so it doesn't get sucked into the port. I don't have a way to test how much it lowered the Fb but it sounds good. Some will say don't polyfill a ported box but I don't like the sound of a big hollow box. Good on you buying Reggie a new speaker, you da man Doug.

Loved the intro Doug, really cool. That kit you made looks amazing, Rafas was meh :) Actually it was pretty rad as well. Shop looks super efficient and clean AF.
i got an old 1000w rms SWR-12D4 thats a trooper. I noticed the new versions of it are only like 500 watts rms. it heats up like a stove top when shit starts clipping though, but faithfully takes 2kw no problem.

Recently blew a Focal 165 KRX2 mid woofer and I had a old alpine s series 2 way laying around I threw it in there and it’s taking all 250 Watts I’m throwing at it. No wait it’s 175 it’s a 4ohm speaker the focal was 2ohm it drew more power but still I was impressed it could take that big DC audio 175.4 😂

I have a 2016 corolla and about 3 months ago I installed 2 kicker 12’s in a band pass box and I have to admit it sounds pretty good only when I have my rear seats down but when I have passengers in my car all I hear is rattling no bass whatsoever. I was wondering , should I switch out the box ??

I had a brand new alpine 6.5 coaxial do that right out of the box. They sent me a new one but I put the project on the back burner. It makes me nervous though because I have $5k of unopened alpine equipment sitting in my garage waiting to go in my bus.
I can vouch that this is what Alpine woofers do.

lol i blew the same style of sub a alpine S on i wana say a 500 watt rms alpine amp lol. played for a bout 3 min then blew. gotta love it. threw the bitch out scrapped the 500 watt. and dropped a 5k and a nightshade in the hoopty, 2 years later and bass knob at a solid 11 aint never had a problem
