  • On September 28th, we were delighted to host Dr. Juan Carlos Velez, a distinguished expert from Ochsner Health in Louisiana, as a featured speaker in our Renal Grand Rounds series.
    During his engaging presentation, Dr. Velez provided insights into the diagnosis and treatment of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in cirrhosis. His talk delved into the following objectives:
    - Distinguishing Different Etiologies of AKI in Cirrhosis: Dr. Velez elucidated the various causes of AKI in cirrhosis, allowing the audience to differentiate between them. This knowledge is crucial for effective management and treatment.
    - Recognizing the Clinical Presentation of Hepatorenal Syndrome (HRS): Hepatorenal syndrome is a life-threatening condition that often occurs in cirrhotic patients. Dr. Velez's expertise enabled the audience to recognize the clinical signs and symptoms of HRS, facilitating timely intervention.
