    We call them funky looking mushrooms "dog peckers". They aren't as good as morels in my opinion, but they are tasty none the less. They are however very delicate and fall apart in the bag easily when crammed in with a lot of other mushrooms

    Nice pickins. I'm in Lake Co. hopping to find a few after the little warm up and rain, but it's back to frosting at night so I know they will be inhibited a bit, but I'm gonna look hard over the next few weeks as I haven't had a good haul in 5yrs or so. I get all kinds of deadly stuff by me, and turkey tails. Looking for some different things like chanterelles, oysters, and cotw/hotw also. I just found a huge patch of galerina last week, and several amanita virosa always come up in a couple places i know. Still pretty to look at even if I'll never be able to eat them! Good luck this yr, and btw what county are you in?

    I found some but then we got 2 inches of snow the next day which was yesterday and we have a freeze warning tonight. This weather will probably kill them off. Now we have to wait another week for them to come back out.

      I just tried the half frees for first time yesterday. They are ok but not even close to a white morel in flavor.

  • @1chuckweber
    @1chuckweber 3 роки тому +1

    Those are half-free morels. Yes they taste great. They are real morels, but in a different clade called Morchella Punctipes. Here is one small example if you don't believe me. foragerchef.com/half-free-morels/ In Ohio we usually find these sprouting before the greys come up.

    Yeah you can eat those they’re in the same family as the morels it’s just a different a different one but they’re the same as other morels you can eat them down you know you got a cook them but after you cook them all the poison goes out of them just like a morale morale is poisonous to see you eat it raw or you got a cook them and then cook so
