Everybody needs a good shop keep npc. In the campaign I'm In its a eldrich corgi named corgle that has warranted the following reactions Halfing rouge: slowly going insane the more he thinks about it Arakockra sorcerer and genasi monk: starting a cult around it Human fighter: just thinks it's a dog with a magic color or something Tabaxi barbarian: DOG! EVIL! HISSSSS! And won't go within 10 feet of it
In my campaign, I made an Illithid npc who owns a magic shop in a guild of wizards. His deal with the community is that he runs a peaceful shop of awesome magic, and in return he has access to the uttermost valuable books in the Wizard and royal libraries, plus a ready supply of human brains delivered to him from death row criminals 😂 He’s quite happy
I dm my campaign and have made a few shops and taverns with different characters. Two are veterans of a war that was the main plot of the first campaign and the other is a Kobalt who was a victim of the conflict. Resulting in him being an orphan and honouring his parents by making this small shop business which is what they wanted to do once the war was over. One of the pcs in this is a hamster Saul Goodman if he was actually looking out for the little guy who helped the Kobalt on his feet with making the business a reality. His main gimmick though is that he’s magical. Most of the stuff he has on display is sealed by magic and he offers the first purchase of any newcomer for free. He’s just a kind hearted fella trying to make a living and honour his family’s legacy… I’m gonna ruin this boy later on.
i wish pumat was mentioned in the final ep maybe like an epilogue about how he continued his life. I think the ending we got, which was just a solemn "*whoof*". Just wish this awesome character didnt end there. I mean what are the odds we gonna see him next campaign? storys starting in marquet. man im gonna eat my damn words arent i this next group is gonna be so strange.
To be fair, I get just as excited about regular old mundane ink. It's a serious problem. I need a twelve step program or something, I practically live at Blick's Art Materials.
My DM created an alternate reality Pumat... to the absolute rapture of my sheepish (and now smitten) Firbolg wizard, Mouse. She has always wanted to retire from adventuring some day, when she and the world are no longer in serious, immediate danger and have a quiet life in a big city with a nice library. Now I'm hoping desperately that when our campaign ends Pumat Sol and my sweet, young Firbolg wizard, desperate for kindness and companionship (after fleeing an arranged marriage to a someone who turned out to be a sadistic necromancer BBEG), end up raising a family together in a small, comfortable loft above The Invulnerable Vagrant. It's the future they both deserve.
@1:28:00 I'd completely forgotten about this task... Did they ever get around to collecting the Basilisk oil and delivering to Pumat? He gave them quite a nice offer of G5700 for the 6oz vial...
The funniest part of this to me is that in the first episode with Pumat, Marisha sneezed and pulled a rib. It hurt her to laugh. And then Matt makes one of the funniest characters he's ever done.
I'm so glad Beau grew as a person. The teenage after school special devil may care a-hole got old quick. Marisha played the part perfectly made you hate her first then feel for her then love her along with the rest of the gang.
So I didn't realize Pumat Sol's patrons were the Cerberus Assembly. Well that sucks. Just when I started to like Pumat. I could totally see finding Jester as a shop keepers assistant. Too bad he is in Cerberus Assembly's pocket.
He’s not really affiliated with anything they do and is pretty hands off with politics. Pumat just wants to run his shop and vibe. He ain’t a bad dude just cuz he was taught by bad dudes.
True but also consider good people can exist under a bad system. He's just a merchant, a fairly high pedigree one but still. (SPOILERS FOR C2 BELOW) He was being commissioned by the equivalent of a literal government. Good luck telling the King of the Dwindalian Empire (or Ludinous who is arguably just as scary) "Nah" during the middle of a war and getting away with that.
I'm disappointed, I added Pumat Sol to my campaign and i failed to really get it right so it came off as really slow . . . My party were threatening to stab the next shop owner that talked so slow.
Yeah I hated beau. Just like I dislike Erikas character dusk. The over the top I only act like this cause its shield to the real me gets old so fast. I'm so glad beau grew up and stopped acting like an ass.
I always liked her as a character, though I fully admit she was a shithead. Critical role in general does a great job of showing asshole characters grow up and work past their issues. I feel like Fjord was her biggest influence for improving. I always read it as Beau projected her daddy issues onto Fjord, and his influence as a leader and as a friendly man who loves his friends helped her open up. Notice how she never argues with him or speaks ill of him, looks to him as the leader, and always takes his sides in disputes. I’m reminded how she went to him for advice on apologizing to Caleb.
I'm starting to think Matt came up with Pumat to help keep Travis engaged during shopping trips...
Yes
That tracks.
Haha absolutely! Love this!!!
Marisha: 500 hours later we’ll be fighting gods with this guy.
Me who knows what’s coming: 😏
Close, but he did seduce a different npc
It really *is* fun to look back and go "Oh, hey! Accidental foreshadowing! Rare!"
I'm subscribing because I can only imagine the amount of work that gets put into this series of character scenes from 500 hours of content. Respect.
Thank you!
Yeah me 2
You're logic is sound. Subscribed.
I like how they describe Pumat as an experience that you just have to take part in.
01:52:05 - Sam, just straight faced threatening Matt about Pumat is so flipping funny. The delivery to the plastic container of snacks in his hands.
It's like the villain stroking a cat....MENACINGLY.
Excellent compilation, thank you so much! Pumat is one of my favorite NPCs in CR, and this comp is just what I was after.
Thank you for the kind words!!!
50:03 is a hilarious back and fourth with Nott and Pumat. It made Travis giggle.
11:11 That deadass "You're small" literally sent me and my sister cackling to the floor lol
I know, right?
I get the sense that CR's firbolgs are honest almost to a fault. I mean, have you ever known a cow to lie?

But please, don't try to eat a firbolg. They've got that mushroom magic.

I came to the comments specifically to see if anyone else caught this. Not disappointed! 😉😁👍
2:15:00 I remember being genuinely concernced when they tried to call Pumat and he didn't answer..... :O
I just love the interaction between Caduces and Pumat, it's just great...really wonderful :)
I love how Matt made Firbolgs just hippie giants and Tal rolled with it. Firbolgs are a fascinating race to me.
Based off of Taelisin's reaction to pumat sol. I think this NPC is the reason Caduceus was a Firabolg
pumat is such an amazing npc , love these supercuts btw , would like to see more definitely
Taliesin’s response to the first meeting when Pumat asks about the ink is so joyful. I love it.
The moment the seed of Caduceus was planted ❤

No Pumat appearance yet but nice to see Matt officially confirm this as the Cityfolk Firbolg Accent
Somehow I get a feeling that Pumat here was the inspiration for Talisen’s character of Caduceus.
Pumat Sol/ Prime Passes the Vibe Check’
Pumat IS a VIBE!!😁😌
I came here specifically for Taliesins excited when Matt is giving a detailed explanation of ink. Goal achieved lol.

Gilmore's great, but Pumat Sol is the GOAT

Let me know how it develops, this sounds like a solid arc your character is experiencing
How’s this been progressing?
1:19:34 the episode the group is attacked in the shop, bookmark for myself
seeing sam riegel suddenly grab an even larger flask in the middle of this and drinking from it was very hilarious for me
@1:28:00 I'd completely forgotten about this task... Did they ever get around to collecting the Basilisk oil and delivering to Pumat? He gave them quite a nice offer of G5700 for the 6oz vial...
That "Arschloch" caught me off guard - flawless pronunciation xD
Also that Firbolg interaction - so wholesome!
Like an hour in is the Ron Swanson “I’ll take all the bacon and eggs you have” moment.
21:36 When Beau first met Pumats
The funniest part of this to me is that in the first episode with Pumat, Marisha sneezed and pulled a rib. It hurt her to laugh. And then Matt makes one of the funniest characters he's ever done.
Travis' reaction to "oh it's a biggie is priceless.
Lol, "throwing a dagger seems so inelegant"
The best part is later on she starts actually doing it XD
"wow, look at those horns" liam imagining Pumat pretty bovine lol
It was that one remark that lead me to imagine him with horns for the entirety of c2 lol
So Pumat Sol is Matt Mercer doing a Charlie Berens impersonation. Neat.
38:48
Thanks!!
This guys been all over dah place, it's kinda wild.
Pumat Sol reminds me of Zathras.
I love when caleb counts
It took me almost a month, but I finally realized why Pumat's voice as a whole sounded so familiar.
Tom Villard.
Imagine Nila and Cad entering in the invulnerable vagrant together for the first time.
I'm so glad Beau grew as a person. The teenage after school special devil may care a-hole got old quick. Marisha played the part perfectly made you hate her first then feel for her then love her along with the rest of the gang.
I still get Babylon 5 vibes with Pumat. Like an appreciated version of Xathrax.
Zathras! And his brothers Zathras!
Pumat was the dust of deliciousness!!!
Omg ty! Please do orly!
He sounds like kronk
Now that you mention it, I do get slight Patrick Warburton vibes from his voice.
Like a really pounded Kronk.
Kronk with a bit of Homer Simpson. At least to me.
I know Gilmore is amazing and all, but personally, I think a prefer Pumat. He's a kind and gentle soul as well as a skilled businessman and wizard.
I would love to see Matt do a npc battle royale
aww you missed one at the beginning
the only thing more magical than Pumat Sol's items is Pumat himself
I LOVE 2 hours of shopping how does anyone hate shopping
Dear Bob, please try Ornn jungle and never recall.
I'm so tempted to continue watching the show now but knowing CR, I suspect that he won't survive until the end...

Caleb always sounds like he is constipated. I never could get on board with that voice. Love CR so much overall and Pumat Sol is my favorite shopkeep.
