  • Johnny Crawford RIP 1946-2021
    Before Alzheimer's claimed Johnny Crawford's memory, the Emmy-nominated actor worked non-stop, played and sang with his wonderful orchestra, rode horses, appeared at multiple film festivals and hung out with his many friends and fans. Unfortunately, the debilitating Alzheimer's Disease took control and he slowly drifted away from the boisterous, funny man who many of us grew up watching. From the very first season of THE MICKEY MOUSE CLUB to his stunning weekly performances as Mark McCain in the hit TV series, THE RIFLEMAN (1958-63), and his many appearances in dozens of films and TV shows, we have all enjoyed his company. Johnny was a dear friend of mine for 40 years and, while his death came as no surprise, his loss of memory these past few years has been difficult to watch. Fortunately, Johnny's family and friends came together for multiple fundraisers and events to ensure that he would be comfortable and safe. This video was one such event. As you'll see, Johnny, while having difficulty speaking, was still alert, and recognized and interacted with his many friends and fans that night. This party was a spectacular star studded evening, held at the Joel and Frances Dee McCrea Ranch, August 2019. I think you'll enjoy these memories of Johnny from his friends and co-stars. Plus, you'll see Johnny's brief appearance in his last film...a western! The movie, BILL TILGHMAN AND THE OUTLAWS was shown that night, now called THE MARSHALL. Actors from the film who joined Johnny include Don Collier, Darby Hinton, Lana Wood and Robert Carradine. Rest in Peace, cowboy. Glad we could ride with you.

      God bless you, Johnny, I just posted the 89th "like" and I just happened to do a 305 mile run from Whistler, B.C., Canada to Seattle, WA, with a stop in Victoria, B.C. in between in 19-89, the very first International run, that "hardly" anybody has ever heard of!!!!! I'm trying to get enough pictures etc. together to make a video, I will probably have to get them from microfilm reels from the main library and hopefully radio stations (ABC radio) keep live interviews from '89 on a reel as I was interviewed when I finished my run at Lake Union, that would be great to get a copy of it if they still have it stored,, anyway's, if I can put it together, I truly hope that it can be of some help!!!

      When I was eight or nine , 'The Rifleman' was one of my favorite shows , among many others . 'Felix the Cat' , 'Sonny and Cher Hour' , Laugh In' , 'The Wild , Wild West' , 'The Immortal Man' , 'The Ed Sullivan Show' , just to name a few .... ..... ..... Then , when I was fifteen , I went to see Hot Tuna midnight @ the Palladium in N.Y.C. Thanksgiving show .
      Time marches on ....
      Three years ago , I ran into Jorma and told him that I first saw them at that show when I was a kid . He smiled and said , "You're still a kid !".

    • @AmericasChoice
      @AmericasChoice 5 років тому

      @@evanwolf6618 Yes it, does. My sister and I enjoyed that era of TV, too. I hit every Hot Tuna show at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ '74-76 and some more in NYC. I saw Jorma solos acoustic and even with his woeful band, Vital Parts. A Law School buddy owned one of Jorma's Martin acoustics Jorma had to sell during his divorce in 1983. I saw Hot Tuna a few times in Boulder, Colorado but they had Falsarano with them and it just wasn't the same. I met Jorma at a guitar shop in Denver about 12 years back and told him the Power Trio era of 1974-77 was their best phase. He told me he hated that period and would never play like that again. Of course, now he is bringing back that electric format and touring with it. I play guitar and can perform a pretty good "Water Song", which I think is his best composition. Peace.

    • @evanwolf6618
      @evanwolf6618 5 років тому

      @@AmericasChoice Wow. Yeah ,The Capitol ! One long ,curved perfect 'orchestra' ! ...
      I can understand how Jack and Jorma would not look back at those days so lovingly. I believe they abused themselves to play an early show and then a late show for 5 1/2 hours . Amphetamines were most likely involved , along with the quarts of booze by each of their side which would most likely disappear before the end of the night !! The Bob Steeler days were the best , although I never saw them with Papa John Creech . I did see Creech when Starship played Central Park (free concert , I had to cut school for that one!).
      Red Octopus. I guess you know that Bob Steeler played for Elvis .
      That's why he was so good . Elvis always had the best !!

    • @AmericasChoice
      @AmericasChoice 5 років тому

      @@evanwolf6618 Steeler was the best Hot Tuna drummer. I never saw Papa John live unfortunately. One thing that saved Jorma and Jack from the destruction that happened to so many was the fact they didn't tour all year long. Jorma's wife was Swedish, so they would spend the winters in Sweden. I have heard Jorma say that the record companies hated that they would leave for the winter, but that it probably saved their lives. The first song on America's Choice was written about being in Sweden in the winter.

    Sadly - Actor, singer, musician, and bandleader Johnny Crawford passed away on April 29th, 2021. He was seventy-five years old...
    He was best known for playing Mark McCain on the ABC-TV weekly western era series 'The Rifleman', it aired from 1958 to 1963 and he appeared in all 168 episodes...

      Seeing things like this always makes the prospect of getting older seem really bad. However, having worked in hospital ER's and as an EMT and from losing friends and family members far too soon, I'll say that I will do my best to never complain about getting older. I've seen too many people who were never given the privilege of doing so.

    I was deeply saddened learning of Johnny Crawford's passing. I especially loved when he sang on "The Rifleman". The 2- songs he performed are unforgettable. They were... "Something Special" and "Greensleeves". His voice gentle and sincere, always brought me to tears. The relationship he shared with his 'Dad', Lucas McCain, was an inspiration to fathers and sons everywhere. The insidious disease that took him from those he loved, must be put to an end! May he rest in peace.

He was a kid and got it done. My God, our youth needs to look up to this titan of what it is like to be a man. PS: Love and miss you, Lucas!

      Cherie Allen ... Johnny is unlikely to have read your comment. Probably none of them. Now read this carefully. Acceptance of Christ as one's savior isn't just for the firm of mind. Jesus knows his soul and will carry it to God if he sought salvation at some point in his life and didn't do anything to reject the salvation. Even as his memory fails in life, God will restore his conscious in the afterlife. Our sorrow at what is happening to Johnny is a result of our loss of his vibrancy. He probably has moments of his own sorrow, but they are quickly forgotten due to the affect of what we feel is a terrible disease. Of course, if we could choose our path out, few would take Alzheimer's. Johnny will be OK when it's over. It's those who remain on the coil who are in despair. I try to tell people that death is not something to fear. I'm certainly not alone with the message. I'm one of those people who have been right there. Pulverized right ribcage and lung. God put several people in position to intervene and stave off certain death. That's why I'm able to be here 47 years later, alive, well, and ready to go.
