Just found your channel today. Subscribed immediately! I’m all about English and French County decor. Loved the tutorial on this lamp today. Has really inspired me to re-cover some shades that go with two marble table lamps that I inherited from my parents. I will probably try covering a smaller shade before I tackle the larger ones. So, if I make mistakes, I will learn on the smaller one and hopefully not make the same ones again. Great video!

What a great idea and a lovely lampshade. To give an even better finish to the trim, on the inside of the top of the shade, it may have been better to cut the fabric for the trim on the bias.

    Greetings from the UK!
Hi Rachel, thank you for sharing this technique. I had no idea how these lampshades were made and always thought it was one long continuous piece off fabric. Now I know! A Batik fabric would be good to use also because it is lightweight and also does not fray. By the way, I actually do live in and English cottage.🙂

    • @StoneCottageHome
      @StoneCottageHome  Рік тому +1

Greetings to you in the UK!
In my first tutorial, I did use the method you mention of the single piece of fabric. That method, I believe, is the "proper" way, but I found this new technique so much easier!
Yes, you're right, a Batik would be a lovely fabric choice for a lampshade. I hope you give it a go!
How delightful to actually live in an English cottage! I'm curious, what design style do you have?

Another excellent video, Mrs. Rachel! I want you to know that your first lampshade video gave me the courage to try it myself! Although I didn't have enough of the vintage April Cornell fabric to pleat the shade, I did cover it and make my own trim for the top and bottom using left over pieces. It took me a while, as I'd never done anything like this, but it was fun! I now call it my "blood, sweat and tears" shade 😂 But I do plan on making a pleated shade sometime later this year, and now I have even more inspiration and guidance!
My next project though will be transforming six 102" vintage linen tablecloths into curtains for my bedroom. I'm very excited, but not happy about climbing the ladder.

Hello. Lovely and informative video. However, I was taught to fold over the bias tape so the rough seam isn’t showing. That may have eliminated the tearing at the top! Loved the calm instructions. You’re the best

I appreciate you doing this type of video. My older mother wants to give me 2 of her beautiful lamps as a gift. I’d like to make a new handmade shade for these Lenox lamps. ❤😊

Beautiful video, but I won't be trying my hand at making a pleated shade. As much as I admire them, I don't think I have the patience to make one.

I have a pretty little aqua color lamp I bought a few years ago and the shade is cracking. I've wanted to replace it with a new one but got sticker shock. Thanks for this video because I'm going to try it myself.

    Isnt this a fire hazard?

The actual construction of the lamp shade was great, however, I do not like your choice of fabric, It doesn't flow around the lamp, pattern is up and down and white areas. A better choice could have been made that matches your room.

No sew…..what’s the sewing machine doing then?

Thank you for asking. If you prefer not to make your own bias tape trim, then you can purchase it from the fabric store, as shown in the video.
For a matching trim, you will need to sew your own. Both options are demonstrated in this video.
