Brilliant. Thank you very much for the comprehensive discography. An absolutely amazing band that I drifted away from and I’m going to drift back towards very quickly.

Voivod is a band that has passed me by all these years. Thanks for a great review of their discography. I plan on checking some of it out. I know they are a band that should be in my collection. Great job!

I really don't understand how everyone doesn't collectively agree that Dimension Hatross is their finest crowning achievement. Sure the other albums have their moments, but none of the other albums are as consistent, daring, dynamic, pinnacle of creative flex of a work of art.
Their earlier work is obvs gonna be more rudimentary with leaps of prog in it's evolution.
Their later work was marked by a lighter, jazzier, hard-rock-prog tinge and lost all that fiercely unique Proto-Thrash that made them huge in Thrash Metal circles

@@doopum1 That would explain their long trajectory but I wish they hadn't lost that distortion.. They could have easily competed with Prong, Helmet, Sepultura and Pantera and prolly bestest them at the heavy games in mid 90's ua-cam.com/video/MuEwkbiL9hc/v-deo.html

@@doopum1 Was going to say the same thing, often times, our favorite albums from a band are the first ones we ever heard. When I was a teenager, I thought even Nothingface was a step down for them. All these years later, DH & KT are still my favorite VoiVod albums (as they’re the ones that got me into Voivod) but I‘ve grown to really appreciate most of the others too. Really getting into The Outer Limits these days.

There's so much excellence in their catalog, I think it's understandable that there's no consensus. To me, Killing Technology, Nothingface and Outer Limits could also be number 1. depends on my mood, really.

i bought Dimension Hatross on cassette when it was new, and while i was a fan of their earlier stuff, this is where i was truly blown away by what i'd heard. Piggy's guitar playing is next level on this one.

Cool video. While I often claim Killing Technology as my favorite, I've been preferring Angel Rat and The Outer Limits lately. It changes often, and I love them because of it. Any input on the sound difference between the recent (at the time) Noise reissues you have compared to your originals?

Chaos Mongers is a great one off DH. I'm not sure they will get the digi treatment as Mechanic have a finger in the pie too. Great collection.

I think MCA would be the biggest hurdle.
Hopefully the three Noise reissues have good numbers in sales.
And apparently they keep selling out shows these days, so I'm crossing my fingers

🤘 🤘 I think one of the biggest problems with VOIVOD’s first two albums is the PRODUCTION. I believe that if those albums were produced as well as Killing Tech or Dimension Hatross, we would appreciate them more. I’ve loved VoiVod since I purchased Dimension Hatross on tape when it originally came out, I grabbed KT and was equally impressed. Then I got RRROAR and thought... eh 🤷🏻‍♂️
_BTW - I’ve never been one of those people who refuses to listen to badly produced albums [I was into punk & hardcore before I was into metal. Hell, even these days, I still love me some Darkthrone] but for the intricacy, technicality and dissonance of a band like Voivod, crystal clear production is a KEY ingredient._

Very cool review! I like how you briefly mention your favorite tracks, but concentrate on facts👍🏻 I don’t know why I love the weirdness that is Voivod, but I love it, very unique band. My favorite album is Nothingface, closely followed by Dimension Hatröss. But... Outer Limits and Angel Rat are awesome, I also like the ”garagerock” of Katorz and the epic Wake. I saw them live on their Wake tour, the guys are down-to-earth and amazingly friendly - and play really tight and have great connection with the audience👍🏻

Voivod headlined small clubs on the Phobos tour when Lives was recorded. Small places though, like 100 person capacity joints, so the quality of gear to record on was probably really inconsistent.

Sure^^ been into voivod from the beginning... if you want to chose a bad album... the self titled one would do.
If you dont like thrash it may be rrröööaaarrrr or war and pain...if you dont like prog its angel rat. If you like voivod... theres other stuff to critizise.
So, may be your least favorite, but not their weakest in general... by far NOT

@King Nereus yes, agree! I almost forgot that... i remembered after posting😂 that says it all i guess... its got nothing that stays in mind.

@King Nereus yep. I got it because, yes if piggy! And as always... im a simple man, theres a new voivod Album, i buy it 😉
Think that was the hardest period for voivod as a band, for sure.
And i think its amazing how chewy fits into the band, and how he fills piggys space not sounding like a copy, but having this similar style, that is absolutely authentic... great guy. Outstanding amazing and damn underrated band

@@jensbaumann6945 I agree that Daniel fits perfect and is not just a copy of Piggy. I actually hear a lot of Allan Holdsworth similarities in his solos.
