Who Are Actually The GREATEST Role Players In NBA History?

- When the NBA Playoffs are here, we are always looking to see which teams (star players cough cough) are going to take their team over the edge and push them throughout the playoffs. However, for some basketball fans, we know the stars are going to ball out, but in close playoff series, it's the role players that actually win you the series, not the stars...
So it got me thinking... Who are actually the greatest role players in NBA history? The ones that know what they need to do at all times, and do it at the highest level. Well, this is that video, but there are a couple of twists in this video that you may not be expecting...

robert horry won 7 chips and has some of the best clutch shots in playoff history, its obviously him
THE GOATTT
@@LockdownK 🙏🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Big shot Bob!
He after his Houston days he didn't do anything other then those shots
You know how Gilbert Arenas was "Agent Zero"? Robert Horry was also lowkey called "Agent 007" or just "007 (Double-0-Seven)
Basketball might be the only "TEAM SPORT" Where u have to constantly remind the fans, players etc that it is a TEAM SPORT and that no one can win alone, and thats whack
^
No it’s definitely not the only one
Conversations like this are why I love talking sports.
100%
The good faith conversations are worth it. Listening to fools who don’t watch the sports and want to piss people off is why I don’t deal with it anymore.
@@tonycordero6105 absolutely, well said
@@LockdownK WHY U DISRESPECT KERR LIKE THAT ? SHALL I CALL ALVIN ROBERTSON TO SLAP OVERRATED MJ IN HEAD LIKE HE ALWAYS DOES. MJ AFRAID OF HIM SINCE ROBERTOSN CARRY HIM TO GOLD MEDAL 1984. ONLY COWARD ATTACKS SMALL KERR. ALVIN PUNCH SHAQ SLAP JORDAN WHENEVER HE HAVE CHANCE
Bruce Bowen straight up Bruce Leeing wally in the face was hilarious 😂
Anyone could get it
@@LockdownK BRUCE IS JUST DIRT NOT ROLE GREAT HE DID ANYTHING SO OVERRATED DUNCAN CAN BEAT OPPOSITE TEAM INCLUDED 4X HURTING BEST ATHLETE EVER VINCE CARTER
Barry was insane. He could do everything. He just did it so damn quietly. Which is also insane since he was a slam dunk champion.
I think 🤔 he won the 3 point contest 🤔 when he played ▶️ for Seattle
If Ariza wasn't on this list, we would have had a problem.
Lolll
When Nate Robinson blocked Yao was one of the most insane plays in NBA history
Brent Barry would be a perennial All-Star if he was playing now.
A highly athletic, 6'7" sharpshooter that could create, playmake & play good defense.
He would have a much brighter green light now.
Brent Barry is Luka
Seeing how many 90s bulls players are in this video it's a nice reminder that those teams were more than just Jordan or even him pippen and rodman. Those teams all around were just stacked.
Fun Fact: Hisashi Mitsui the starting Shooting guard of Shohoku high from the anime Slamdunk is likely based on Craig Hodges according to the official wiki. Mitsui is also based on another NBA shooter Jeff Hornacek
have you watched kuroko's basketball?
I still remember Kerr just popping off the bench for the Spurs and daggering all those 3s.
Danny green, because he won 4 championships with 4 great teams, the lakers, raptors, spurs and tar heels while in college
he’s also 23rd in career plus minus and 12th in win percentage
True winner!
😅😂😂❤
😂😢😂❤
The spurs would have more ships had he not biffed damn near every big shot needed against the Heat
Dude. You made a 50 minute video seem too short! Great stuff. New subscriber. Can’t wait for the next one

I really thought Tayshaun Prince was an all star
Most "allstars" are role players.
Good for you you're wrong.
@@younglove3362 no shit smart ass
Tayshaun Prince did play for the a gold medal winning US Olympic team
The year after they won the championship i believe, four Detroit Pistons did make the all star team, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace and I believe Rasheed Wallace. He was the lone starter of the Pistons left off the all-star team.
Rodman and Salley were called "The X-Factor" in Detroit. They even had a signature high-five, crossing their arms into a 'X', slapping hands, and hugging.
Wish I was there to see it
Honorable mention to James Posey!!!
Shout-out James!
Facts
Bruce Bowen should have been there for defense. He was an amazing defender for the Spurs in the 2000s and key to the there championship runs.
Stars are obviously important to any team but having key role players can alter a series. You have to look beyond the stats to see the impact certain players have. There's a reason that Big Shot Rob is a 7-time NBA Champion. Shoutout to Shane Battier; one my favorite "glue guys" during his Houston years.
I used to spam 3s with Battier in 2k16! Or maybe it was 2k14 I forget lol
@@LockdownK Can play solid defense and shoot 3's at a good percentage; a prized addition for any team looking for a valuable role player. Best part; his jumpshot wasn't broken.
Frrrr
I’m glad you put Mike Miller on the shooters list!
Truue! Mike Miller was automatic from 3, still remember him shooting that 3 pointer with one shoe on
Brent Barry won the dunk contest ✌🏾
When he played ▶️ for the Clippers
I would say Robert Horry because he’s definition of clutch player and heck he has more championship than Jordan and LeBron.
Yes, I do agree Horry was clutch. Jordan has more Finals MVPs than the other too combined. More truth lol
@@cmailloux30 truth on that.
@@cmailloux30yeah I was going to say he ex never the best player on his team lol but deserves his respect for his clutch shooting
Screw the rings. He was versatile asf
He was very lucky to get those teams
Danny Green was a stud for the Spurs during the back end of the Big 3 era. Could be a bit streaky at times, but when he caught fire, guy was a flame thrower. Always gave it all on D as well.
^
honestly shocking ibaka doesn’t have an All star seeing as how bad the center position was during his career
I was wondering why kirilenko didn’t get mentioned but turns out he was a 1x all star. Great video bro I appreciate the work you put in.
Such a terrific video man, I know this must've taken ages too make. So well done
2014 Boris Diaw was the best role player in the history of the NBA
He was amazing that year but I don't think he was consistent enough across his career.
Over big shot Bob?
@@LockdownK definitely man diaw could shoot could defend could pass could do everything
@@LockdownK For that one post-season, yes. Horry across 3 teams.
@IronJonny he wasn't better than young Horry who was being compared to Pippen. Go watch the 95-Finals.
Love Ariza but KCP should deff have that spot one of the most impactful and sought after role players of the last 10 years, plus he's had more success with 2 rings.
I’m really glad I found your channel. Your videos are always great and you keep getting better! One of my fave people to watch right now! Wish you and your fam good health
I appreciate you g one love
showing a clip of vucievic* on the lakers and saying end of the bench players is wild cause you gotta be at least a solid role player to play the same position as kobe and be on the court with him.
This is a take, but EVERY PLAYER IS A ROLE PLAYER, it is how big the role they need to fill that should be talked about.
Love the respect Bruce Bowen got. He was a menace on defense
Fr
Bruce Bowen did more kickboxing than scoring. Capping the 3-and-D list with him is WILD
All of ur videos are put together amazingly. You may not get the most views now, but you certainly deserve it. Ur hard works gonna pay off. Respect
Great video. I definitely would like to see this version with all star players
Amazing work, thank you so much
Great list and mostly I agree with your selection, very well done
Thank you very much!
Beautiful concept. Very informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Keep posting bro always super entertaining love the vids
Thanks! Will do!
Great video.. have a feeling this took time and effort. Keep going
Lots of both
Let’s gooo thank u bro, been waiting for a new video you’re my fav UA-camr
Starting the video with Brent Barry… now this is a video I can get in to
stumbled across this randomly but this was a great video! keep up the good work bro!
Appreciate it!
One of the best basketball videos I've ever seen. Outstanding job
Glad you liked it!
Great video! I love the diverse selection of choices.
W comment!
You mean a shooter, a shooter, a shooter, a shooter and a shooter?
This might come off blasphemous at first but I think it's Dennis Rodman. Think about it the guy averaged 7 points a game, averaged 3-6 shots a game and less then 2 assist per game. He was a massive liability on offense to score. With that said the point of a "role player" is to be told to do something and that is what they do. Rodman was told to play defense and rebound and did both amazing.
If it wasn't for all star selections he would 100% make this video
How is that blasphemous ??Rodman is the best role player!
He made too many all star selections.
Lol rodman was a superstar, not a role player, he sacrified his offensive game when he came to the NBA to more talented teammate,
People forget he was averaging 25 a game at college level,so he could score if really want to
He is the goat of defender
He is the greatest role player of all time. Proven through his time on Detroit and Chicago.
Always excited when lockdown posts a video😀
Really enjoyed this vid
I was getting impatient as hell waiting for you to mention Bruce Bowen
W vid, Shaun, Vernon, n BSB. Definition of role player 🤝🏾best to do it

Quality content, keep pushing brother
This is a great video for me, because these supporting players as well as defensive superstars are most of my favorite players.
Glad you enjoyed!
Really great video!keep up the good work man
Appreciate it!
Underrated content creator! Good video💯
Glad you think so!
Big Shot Bob that’s not even a question! Having Marcus Smart top in anything is crazy he can’t defend he can flop
Great video, lots of though and knowledge.
Glad you liked it chief!
Brent Barry also won the slam dunk contest 96 and was a finalist in the 3pt contest 03
Every video on Your channel is a great lesson in history of NBA :) Thx
Glad you like them!
Good vid thank you
This video is an amazing thought exercise, thank you for making this
Glad you liked it chief!
Horford has to be in this discussion. Since he got into the league he’s been a net positive for every team he’s been on except Philly (because their system used him inefficiently). Bostons been to the playoffs every year with him and it’s not a coincidence.
what role would you put him under?
Mannnnnn avery bradley lol bro was picking up everybody full court
OP's list is too heavy on '6th men scorers'. My top 5 non-allstars: Robert Horry, Shane Battier, Steve Kerr, Udonis Haslem, Danny Green.
😂😂Steve Kerr 😢
Great video man
glad you liked it!
Your channel is amazing! Well crafted, great expertise and SO much work and love put in every single video! Keep it up - can't wait to see you hit six figures soon! 😊
Glad you are liking the videos!
Robert Horry is like the guy who sims 2k until his team is about to be eliminated, pops in the 4th quarter to make sure they pull it out, but in real life.
Horry has 27 rings and has some of the best clutch shots in NBA history. Its definitely him
Shane Battier, Jeff Green and Iggy are few of my favorite role players. Always knew they'd do something good whenever they're on the floor
^
You are blowing up brother, congrats! 🎉
I love lists like these that highlight lesser known players. I've been watching the NBA for 30 years and always valued hustle and defense, seeing some of these players again was a nice hit of nostalgia. I'm not sure if he fits your criteria, but another guy that could fit a couple categories here is Nick Collison, very similar to Haslem.
Didn't he get his jersey retired but the Thunder?
@@LockdownK Yes sir, first Thunder player to get their jersey retired.
Tony allen averaged like 30 In HS crazy how he changed dropped like 40 on my old coach .
thats actually crazy
Love ittt !!!
Do you need a video editor bro?
I can do a sample video;)
Good explanation. Very well put together.
You deserve more subscribers! ❤ Great content.
18:22 Deron Williams after Utah was crazy for trying HALF the shit he tried 😂
crazy to think the Spurs had like some of the best role players you could ever get
Bro I could have sworn your channel had like 1 million subs they're so high quality you're prone to blow up.
Great video
Me and my brother still have “College Hoops 2K7” with JJ on the cover for PS2. We pretty much edited every players name to the correct name, since in this game every player had a made up name. It took a long time.
I feel like Mario Chalmers & Norris Cole era was slept on.
why so?
Removing players because they had an all-star appearance is tough. You pretty much remove every mid and late 2000s piston or hawk just because the East was a weak conference.
It was very tough, however in the future I may make a video with more lax rules
Rebounding definitely could’ve been its own category. Drummond is a modern guy who can, on occasion, change the course of a game by controlling the boards
Danny Green 😂
I am waiting to comment before I see the forwards and all that to see who he picks, I have one player in particular in mind that I couldn’t imagine not being in this list, but going to wait the video out
Fuck ya Tony Allen Number 1 as he should be!
I also rarely ever comment on videos in the first place, but that Tony Allen take earned a lot of respect from me when listening to your other takes!
What's Tony Allen the person you were waiting for?
There was a stretch of like 11 years where every team who won the championship had either Kerr or Robert Horry on the squad.
Danny Green and Gerald Green are related if I’m not mistaken.
Second cousins I think
Yep. Same color. 3rd cousins to Jaylen and Derrick.
which Jaylen and which Derrick?
@@LockdownK Yes
Nice list bro
Nice video. I had no idea Danny and Gerald Green were cousin?
I forget pretty often lol
Livingston's injury reminds me of an interesting story from a UA-cam comment section. There was a clip of a guy trying to break into a convenience store by kicking the locked door from TruTV Presents World's Dumbest. At one point, his knee bent in a way that reminded me of Livingston's injury so I commented that it did with a warning to not Google it. Some guy did and replied "I should have listened. Knees aren't supposed to bend that way"
Micheal Cooper?
Scott Skiles, Ricky Davis, Rick Fox, Ron Harper , Danny Ainge Tony Allen,...What about Marcus Camby? DPOY 6 seasons averaging a double double, never an all star
You definitely did not call Kerr the coach of the biggest dynasty in the last 20 years right? Lol
My friend, I have been watching you from Turkey for years, you are the best in your content, I wanted to thank you for making such beautiful videos.
Shout out to Turkey, glad you like the videos!
Good list 💯
Wasn’t shot clock going down in the that Marcus smart chuck I feel like it makes sense
Loved this vid
Love that you loved the video 😅
Ah Man, so nice you put out a new video. I love your contend. You're NBA 🏀contend is totally superior 👍
I appreciate you G!
I guess we'll have to create a unique categorie to fit Boris Diaw in.
Somehow yee
Great video!
