@@outdoorsinthe608 not too much better for year round campfires than pine! Easy to start, and great flame! In the dead of winter we still burn it and just mix in some oak!
Nothing like having good neighbors!! Good looking load of wood and you were definitely pretty casual as that log came rolling at you at a not so casual pace!! 😂😂
@@TwinCityFirewood hahaha sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. In hindsight I didn’t realize how close it was to me until I watched the video 🤣 one more broken ankle avoided 💪
@@ShermanLawncareAndFirewood that’s awesome to hear Mike. Good neighbors make or break the experience! Congrats on the new splitter, I can’t wait to run that bad boy at hope next year!!
@@WilleysFirewood interesting to know that! I know a lot of your loads are maple/ash heavy. We don’t have a ton of hard maple around me. Quite a bit of soft maple red, silver, box elder but not a lot of sugar or Norway and the ash is no where near as plentiful as it used to be. Both of which I got wish I got more of.
Hickory wood has insects that drill holes. I saw on "Ohio wood burner" channel about them. They make a mess while the wood is drying...check it out. Still a nice, free wood haul..
@@jamessanders4310 thanks for the comment James! I’m very familiar with Joe at OWB hot take on hickory! I definitely understand where he’s coming from but it’s a pretty bold stance to have against such a phenomenal wood. Burns hotter and longer than oak, coals amazingly, smells great and can flavor food. It’s literally one of the most versatile woods out there! With that said there’s are a few borers that are specific to hickory. The spiral borer, the painted hickory borer, the hickory bark beetle and the powder post beetle. The one we see most common here is the powder post beetle. If you keep the hickory covered it really doesn’t make too much mess. Just a small pile of sawdust that falls right off when you pick it up. The problem is when they bore into the wood and you leave it uncovered to get wet and then it turns to kind of a paste. Still no reason to hate it imo. For what it’s worth this happens to all the Carya genus so pecan wood has the same issue as well as any other hickory!
Hard work . But that’s a dang good score . That stuff is crazy heavy . Look into a 462 with out the mtronic. In my opinion way better than a 500i and will last longer . The computer saws don’t run in extreme heat or cold . If you ever want to part with that 044 let me know .
@@jasonpinnix1905 yeah man this brings me back to my roots! I use to Facebook marketplace scavenge free wood real hard. Now I just answer a call or text and usually have it dropped off! It’s in my blood not to let a score like this go to waste though. I love hickory, have plenty of hickory bbq customers and this thing was straight big and already blocked up somewhat. It’s been a while since I’ve parked on the side of the road and loaded a trailer! I’ll definitely look into the 462. The 440 was just having a bad hair day as soon as I got home she fired right up and been running ever since!
Nice spin move! Your neighbor is a smart man pine is fine!! Love getting the smooth bark hickory👍👍

Nice score on the Hickory and pine.
Here in the Pacific NW pine is fine and is AWSOME stuff to heat the home with. 😉👍

Beautiful hickory “sundae” score with some pine on the top….! And where’s your chaps….?!? 😮😉

I don’t have hickory around here at all. It’s great to have help with firewood and even better when it’s a friend.

I just finished up several cords of bitternut and shagbark, killer firewood and great for cooking.
