    All the dresses in your fashion show are lovely, colors are nice. I do like the orange/black polka dot. Your granddaughter is too cute for words. I came across a couple of large pieces of cotton shirting fabric I hd used to make my two young sons (ages 5 & 9 shorts and shirt from this fabric. So, I asked my youngest son, how would he like a shirt from this fabric? He remember the outfits and loved the fabric! He absolutely said yes he would like a shirt! Now one piece is green/black/raspberry red surfers, and the other has x-men and weird colors. I was shocked, said he would definitely like a shirt his mom made from childhood fabric. He is 35 now! They are coming along nicely. The middle son I know won't wear a shirt but I am going to make him some boxer shorts pajamas and he will like those.

    As I saw you making button loops, thought I would share my way. I just use a hair elastic, one of the thick ones. They come in all sorts of colors and I just stick them in the seam before I sew it, sew over it several times, making it the length I need it to be, sew the seam, then cut off whatever is left over on the inside. I don't know if you have them in the UK, but I buy mine at the Dollar Store.

    I was purchasing some generic feet for a sewing machine that I was giving to a neighbor but the buttonhole attachment wouldn’t work on the machine. I was able to get one from my local dealer for $10 used. There is a reason that one size doesn’t fit most machines! It generally has to do with the feed dogs. Neat idea you have for creating a button loop. I’ve made them before but haven’t formed them around a chalk pen! I like the New Look Top with the belt/waistband system. What fun - Orange spots!!! Wash the linen! I rarely wash fabrics either, but I do wash linen. I use the serger to sew around the fabric first as it unravels easily. Great dresses on you. Your granddaughter is too cute. It’s so fun to hear an English accent with a little child too!

    Can’t believe it same thing happened to me and I did the exact same thing , put a seam in the front with little buttons and changed up the seam sizes. Fixed it on the paper pattern afterwards not to go thru that again used bias tape.but I did like the dress which hides a multitude of sins and great for the hot weather.speaking of weather if yours is matching ours a week later then this week is three days sunny, three days t storms and temps between 77 to 85. See how close you come.After seeing your dress looks like mine could be a little smaller on top or perhaps put a tie.

    Oh gosh I haven't seen a button hole loop made like that in a very long time. Nicely done. If I am not sure if I should wash a good quality fabric like linen (and there are many grades of linen), I snip off a bit and put it in the wash with a regular load of clothes and see how it comes out. I also dry it. The I compare the washed piece with the unwashed one and then decide.

    Lovely dresses, very annoying they sent you the wrong size ! Your orange spots are spectacular. I’m not sure if you know of Sandra Betzinas ( she’s a vogue designer) way of pre treating linen ? She dry irons it on the hottest setting, then wash hottest cycle, then tumble dry hot. It softens the linen and it has small creases and looks softer , it depends if you like that look . Just thought I’d mention it in case you wanted to give it a try. Thank you for the thread loop tutorial, I’ve never been able to get them even before, Bridget R

    You suit a bodice with a waist Micheline. How about simple side ties rather than making the bodice more snug. That dress looks so lovely on you. I think that you would look really good in a top with a peplum, rather than a straight up and down cover-all. You have a figure, show it off.
    You tempted me Micheline. Today I spent hard earned savings. I have bought a bernina vintage record and it will arrive in a week or so. Did I need to? no. Did I want to? yes. I fondly remember the strong steady bernina machines at school, 60 + years ago.

    When you wash linen, try washing it with a can of Coke Cola, the regular kind. One can for front loading washers, the acid in it will soften the linen and make it wrinkle less. And you might want to serge the edge before you put in the washer so it doesn't fray.

    Question: I was sewing sleeves on a t- shirt using the surger. First one went on perfect. The second ended up not meeting the side seam. So do I rip out the surge stich and try again or do I make it meet by conecting the 2 seams as I surge stich the side seam? My concern is even if I rip it out it will still be wonky because you trim a little more off each time you surge it.

    • @michoumakes
      @michoumakes  3 роки тому

      Hi Mary-Jo
      Is the difference really big? Try pinning the side seam and sleeve and see if it will still look ok. If that doesn't look good personally I would either remove the serger thread (tricky but it can be done. ) Or Cut the serged edge off as close as possible then re sew. You may need to do the same to the other good sleeve seam if you think it won't look balanced.
      I hope this is what you are asking and that it helps explain a solution for you. 👍😘

    • @Flairatic1146
      @Flairatic1146 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mary-jo, bear in mind you don’t have to cut off fabric with the serger you can simply skim the fabric alongside the blade without cutting. Alternatively disengage it if your machine allows. Although If the second end falls into the seam allowance of your side seam you should be ok catching it in there when sewing the side seam.
