Yes! I had the exact same thought which is one of the reasons I started this channel, I hope I fill that gap a bit :) I still hope that somebody will eventually make one that is more geophysics focused as that is certainly not my specialty haha ;)

This was excellent. This filled in a lot of blanks for me. I noticed in a previous comment someone called you Zippy. HAHAHAHHAHAH. So, I've always wondered how and when the White Cliffs of Dover formed and how extensive are they. I think one of your other vids answered some of it but I'm seeking a more chronological account. Rumor has it they are actually vast, way beyond just the European North Sea shorelines. Okay, Professor Zippy, you keep talking I'll keep learning. 🤣
Good thing it's a video. You talk faster than I can listen. Pause and rewind worked well for me. Definitely can't read your text and listen at the same time. Nick Zentner who I also like repeats way too often and is much slower and is on the other end of the of the speed curve for me. For him I have to speed up the video to get through it. Thanks for doing it and being zippy about it. I liked it.
Thank you so much for the comment! Yea, my original goal with the channel was to be the geology equivalent of crash course where Hank Green speaks so quickly haha. I always found those videos so helpful and I liked that he went fast so I could learn more in less time, so that is what I aim to emulate, but sometimes I get that I go too fast over concepts that might not be introductory, so I am working on that ;)

Lol there is speed adjustment option in youtube. If you cannot trace the speed you can reduce it to 0.75 or 0.50 as per your capacity.
@Geo girl is wonderful. I wish o could assist to make this channel one of the greatest of all geology channels but unfortunately i am poor in video editing and my speaking is also poor.

Here's what I love about the continents of the present day. The Arctic is a circular ocean surrounded by continents. Antarctica is a circular continent surrounded by ocean. 😃 That's awesome! Like a Yin and Yang kinda thing. Fair and balanced. The ancient Greeks would have appreciated this.

Hey Geo Girl, love the video. I am studying a high-pressure rock unit of the Franciscan Subduction Complex of the the Northern California Coast Range Mountains. Understanding the plate motions is playing a large role in my masters thesis. It may in fact be reflected in stretching lineation orientations within the rock unit. A couple questions for ya:
Where did you get the plate motion model at the beginning of this video?
Any good literature you recommend around plate motion of the Northeastern Pacific basin (Kula or Farallon related)?

As for the literature... I unfortunately don't think I can help you. I am no expert in this stuff, I just touch on the basics here, so I really don't know of any specific papers or anything related to those topics you mentioned.

Regarding Wilson Cycle: my understanding is that once the oceanic crust reaches a certain age (200 million years?), it is SO dense it starts to sink/subduct, triggering the reversal from spreading to eventual continental collision. My question is this: why does it subduct at only one of those once passive margins instead of at both?
Whereever I search why in subduction its always the denser plate which gets subducted the reason I get is "because it is dense" but it doesn't make any sense. Eben though its dense but before colliding with the lighter plate it was still floating so what actually happened at the collision that it got subdicted?? Lesser buoyancy is surely NOT the answer....please someone help me in understanding this

@GEOGIRL hi late to the party here. Nick came out with a new lecture about a year ago talking about the formation of the rockies. I loved this one lecture and is what I would define as fringe science. Just a hypothesis so new that it's still not widely known or accepted by the field in which it's proposed. Let me be totally clear Nick didn't come up with this Hypothesis, he is just relaying it. Love the videos lots of interesting information.
