Renowned French yachtsman Bernard Moitessier in Deep Water

Beautiful and philosophical clip from docu Deep Water by Louise Osmond and Jerry Rothwell of sailing Einzelgänger Bernard Moitessier who seems to be the complete opposite of his antagonist Donald Crowhurst in The Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the first non-stop, single-handed, round-the-world yacht race, held in 1968--1969.
Look at Bernard Moitessier's muscles: they seem to be made of oakwood fibers.
We can only take a glimpse of his mind through his words: "You do not ask a tame seagull why it needs to disappear from time to time toward the open sea. It goes, that's all."

Francoise Moitessier's observations about the sea are poetic - infinite horizon, frightening immensity, turning into a small god. There are tons of connections to "Life of Pi" here.

One of my hero's...met in Sausalito and spent day driving him around the Bay Area...amazing creature!...one of a kind...great as sea...but don't get him near land...inspired me to live aboard our vessel for 17 years and cruise...oh yes and with 5 kids! and a wife :-)
