Lance Armstrong | You Have to Move Forward

Вставка
  • Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
  • This conversation offers a simple, yet often tough, perspective when it comes to how we respond to challenging periods in life. Do you retreat when you are in mucky waters or do you lean into it and allow your hurt / humiliation / anger to evolve into purpose?
    From 7 Tour de France wins to Livestrong Foundation to battling lawsuits to Next Ventures, Lance Armstrong shares his journey through life and how facing his challenges head on served him rather than hiding away and letting that minimize him.
    With the current climate, I’ve had many conversations with others on the hardship that they are experiencing. This episode with Lance provided a nice shift in awareness that we are responsible for how we feel, given any type of circumstance.
    During this conversation, Lance and I discuss...
    → What can come from releasing bitterness.
    → The emotional impacts from retirement that no one talks about.
    → Not allowing hardships take us out of the game of life.
    → Continuing forward movement through our darkest moments.
    → How a simple mindset shift opened a channel for opportunities.
    → Letting our kids choose their own life path, their own passions.

    Lance is exactly right....I had a conversation with myself to "get over" the hurt I felt after defending Lance for YEARS... The "fall" crushed me. I still get upset thinking about it..emotional even..as I was SO SO invested in his success. I was that crushed with his failures..It took a while...but I decided that cycling is more important.. I realized and accepted Lance for what he is... Now he is giving back to cycling things that IT gave him... That is why I came back.. I love the sport and this guy was the BEST ever...let's hear what he has to say about the tactics of racing and all things about the sport. He knows more than anyone besides Johan. I WANT to hear it. Lance is still Lance..the anger is still there... but I'm interested in his views.

    I think many of us can forgive Lance for his drug transgressions, he was just better at it than the rest of the peloton. However, his lack of remorse around his vicious personal attacks & attempts to destroy the careers of anyone who questioned him show the true measure of this man.

      I think there is plenty of remorse. The thing that is difficult for us is that Lance is honest that wouldn’t not change anything, and that there are relationships where he isn’t there yet.

    Hate Peloton? Strong words my heart. I ride outside and race. Cancer survivor. 70 year old grandma. Peloton helps keep my game in shape during Wisconsin’s wild winter and on summer’s rainy days.
    But finding space to just be alone and get inside my own head truly keeps me from going nuts.
    All my best.

    One thing I would have to say about Lance is that it's pretty easy to 'move forward' when you are filthy rich. Despite the money this cost him, he still emerged with a massive amount of wealth. If any of this had destroyed him financially I don't think he'd be in such high spirits and talking about moving forward. I consider him the best ever, but sometimes the messaging is kind of meh.

    This just hit my UA-cam feed last night and I had not seen this interview prior to today. Very good interview, extremely insightful. Obviously I am a huge cycling fan, watching and taping every Tour since 1984, but the business discussion you had were the most interesting. How "The Move" and "Forward" came to fruition. How he is actually making money from it, and what his strategies are. Really good insight, and probably the best, most relaxing, and truthful interview I have seen him in. Really Good job! :)

    This podcast episode has been out a year so obviously I am late in finding it. It was good to hear Lance admit his real crime or cause of his downfall. Cheating, ie doping, in cycling wasn’t his downfall as it was an integral part of the sport. The really bad part was how he viciously he treated people who opposed him in anyway. It be nice if he could make amends with the Andreus and Tyler Hamilton. That said, I’ve been listening to his podcast since 2017 and still think he’s the greatest TDF cyclist.

    Here are my questions:
    At the beginning of all this there was no testing for epo, it was not on the “ not approved list”.
    Why was Lance stripped of everything. They guys that were also on the podiums or 8th, 51st place etc and convicted of doping were not stripped of their positions or earnings, their names remain in the record books, why?
    Why is epo illegal? Essentially it just helps you recover? Is it really that bad for you? Is it worse than caffeine, power aid, 2 hour massages, all the other “legal” recovery methods? I don’t know, does anybody.
    You can make a pretty strong argument that epo could actually be beneficial to endurance athletes, look at what they are doing to their body in a race like the Tour de France. That race isn’t good for you.
    Not at all condoning what he did or support it, but why was he the only one removed from the record books?

    • @richde
      @richde 3 роки тому

      Off the top of my head, a lot of people were also banned/stripped of titles and EPO can be dangerous to the point that athletes using it had to be woken up in the middle of the night to get up and walk around to keep from dying in their sleep because of the combination of their low resting heart rate and how thick it made their blood...and some did die from it. EPO has a purpose, bit they were using it dangerously.

    • @SKILLIUSCAESAR
      @SKILLIUSCAESAR 3 роки тому

      Yes, EPO is illegal in France. Look up Faustina affair in 1999... huge drug bust (of EPO) and mass arrests of cyclists at the tour

  • @davidtyler5129
    @davidtyler5129 3 роки тому +1

    LA was the king and always will be. Yes he’s a prick and a bastard for throwing people under buses and I agree that isn’t right. However as Tyler Hamilton reports approximately 80-90 % of the peloton were on something and ‘glowing’ as they call it. LA and the team just did it better than anyone else. Besides, just taking a substance doesn’t instantly make you a great athlete/cyclist, you still have to put in the hrs and LA certainly did that.
    The other interesting thing about LA being stripped of his 7 x TDF titles is that one one from within that period of titles has ever been promoted to 1st. But then how could the UCI award the races to another competitor when almost all of LA’s competitors were ‘glowing’. As Tyler Hamilton says, you would not have even come close to winning the TDF back in the day unless you took drugs. At best Tyler says you might finish around position 80-90th. I never read or hear much mentioned about no one else being awarded any of those 7 x titles. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm 🤔🤫
    So for anyone who reads this, No I don’t like what LA did to people and their lives, reputation etc, but his athletic abilities will always stand and no one, just no one comes close. Do I think cycling is ‘clean today’, no. Every athlete today wants an edge, the science of drugs in sport I think has just become more of an art than ever. At the end of the day even as an average cyclist the question to self is given the same set of circumstances as LA and others of that period in cycling and the drive/desire to succeed, would I do or have done the same thing? Only you as a reader of my comment can answer this question to self.

    Oh no, I did not intend “to discount Armstrong’s victims” by stating that Armstrong himself was also cheated by getting an unfair life sentence. I spent in fact thousands of pro Bono hrs to get compensation to E O Reilly, to G Le Mond, to F Andreu, w no result. And to get Armstrong’s lawyer sanctioned by the Tex bar. And to get Armstrong prosecuted for perjury in Tex for false testimony in the Tex bonus arbitration. To no result. But most time spent was in Italy and Switzerland to get P McQuaid and H Verbruggen investigated for fraud. To no result. And to get the Armstrong banker in the background but a key player investigated. No result. So no I did not discount the people he harmed, just the opposite. Many drug stories still untold. Many drug abusers and helpers and hiders still out there, still flapping their wings, still unexposed and untouched.

  • @paulsolon6229
    @paulsolon6229 3 роки тому +3

    Overall, a v gd interview, even excellent, for Armstrong opens up in a way not seen b f. And when he did I liked what I saw and heard.
    Quite gray area re drugs in cycling: yes Armstrong cheated, but also he was cheated too. He got a doomsday lifetime ban, unlike any other cyclist in the history of our sport for a first offense. And the USA organization prosecuting him and convicting him did so in an unethical way.
    It is a complicated drug story, and that’s only about the part we know. There is much drug info, many drug stories fully untold.
    And the past exec leaders of the UCI, dirty themselves and the top leaders of the sport, both untouched, both non-penalized while Armstrong pays a life penalty.

      Ya, he's had a troubling past in the sport. I respect his ability to own that part of him. In my opinion it takes real courage to start to face the shadow side of our past.

    Hi I still belive Lance was a victim of the sport.Drugs inall sports including cycling have been around even before Lance was born.I feel he has been used as a scapegoat. Did he have a choice,I don't think so when you consider all the others were on something.I still belive in my heart he was a good athlete.I forgive you Lance,good luck for the furture,that moment in time does not define you as a person for the rest of your life.

    Lance is a failure and a has-been! That's why he has to use mostly his own money to promote questionable products like his silly creams.
    Sponsors are rightfully afraid to get burned again!
