  • I recently helped a consulting client buy a quality 2024 model 5th wheel toy hauler. This RV scored a 93 or A- in my grading system. In today's video I'll be reviewing the RV she bought.

    This was very helpful. Hearing how some deficiencies in an RV may not make it a "no go" is helping me try to figure what would work for us.

    Both styles of reviews are interesting to watch and can be so helpful to anyone looking for an RV. Now, more than ever, people need help with making RV purchases due to the amount of crap that the companies are marketing. Thanks for doing what you are doing!

    Thank you, we've been starting the LONG search trying to figure out what WE need and want, and have been focusing on the floorplans and features. So this was helpful to see that the components are just as important for HOW we want to camp. So again, thank you. We're still in the planning phase as in our case it's contingent on my wife's career and the companies RTO policies as they keep changing! For us, we're really looking for 2 phases. 1 to be full time, as we may have to relocate for a couple of years until she can retire. And then we'd like to spend a couple of years traveling and seeing the country. THEN, I guess a third phase, where we either return to our home base to live out retirement, OR possibly relocate somewhere we discover in our travels, then live in as we build or remodel.

    had to do the same on our Keystone Raptor 352TS as it cracked on both sides above the back hanger. The original "brace" welded was only welded in three spots, not across the entire top of the brace. And had that Moryde brace.

    I love all your honest reviews. Wish you started earlier, it would have saved me at least 1 rv purchase. I watched a video on a Passport TT a couple of years ago and realized the risk of frame cracking so I proactively installed 3 Morryde frame supports when I installed new equalizers, wet bolts and Sumo springs. With the addition of better tires, the trailer pulls straight and true, nothing moves it side to side.

My wife and I are considering buying a Class C for part time use (many years ago we fulltimed in a fiver). We are not really familiar with Class C, and these pandemic related quality issues are really complicating shopping.

    Can you talk a little more about how the 5500 dual fuel genny is not enough for the camper? It's rated at 45.8 amp, 5500w, and each of the GE AC units pull 15-amp, which puts you right at 45 amp. You're never going to be using the furnace at the same time as the AC for obvious reasons, so the only potential issue would be the tankless hot water heater pulling a ton.
    The thing is though, basically every modern 5th wheel or toyhauler uses the same setup, 5500 genny with 3 13.5k ACs, with a roughly 46 amp supply. Considering that a campsite plug is gonna net you 50 amp, you're really not losing much, and I'd argue that basically anyone boon-docking is only running 2 ACs at a time max, if for no other reason than fuel savings.

    I have been watching your RV review as I was searching for a new camper. I thought I had done a fairly good job, checked most of the boxes. I looked at all the plumbing I could readily see and didn't see any flexible vinyl tubing only color coded pex and supply lines. A week later I have a drip under my new camper, so I start taking off access panels. There I found all kinds of the reinforced braided vinyl tubing. Turns out they only used PEX where you could see it, then switched to tubing as soon as it passed into a non-visible area. How do you find stuff like this?? Surely the RV dealer isn't going to let you disassemble the cabinetry to check while your shopping around and under bellies are enclosed. Can you imagine walking into an RV dealer with square bit driver in hand and start removing panels?? Anyway my leak turned out to be the female swivel connector on the hot side of the tankless water heater, but there is such a short piece of pex connected to the vinyl tubing that I am waiting for the flair-it tubing to pex adapters to come back into stock so I can fix it properly.

    First, I am enjoying both of your styles; keep doing that. Secondly, after watching your video on possible roof bubbles I inspected my roof and found some minor bubbles. They were easy to fix because I caught them early enough, thank you. Thirdly, while inspecting my roof, I discovered that the skin was loose on on the edges. There appear to be no damage underneath the skin, so is this something I should have fixed or just keep an eye on?

    7:06, I noticed you didn't talk about the power management system Brinkley uses to help mitigate deficiencies of the industry standard 5500w generator. Brinkley also never made a "2023 model". Every unit produced thus far has been a 2024. Also, you reviewed 2 5th wheels previously and are now comparing them to this toy hauler. There is a 100k difference in pricepoint when talking MSRP, so I wouldn't draw any conclusions from differences between the models. These are just a couple of small oversights that might bring more credibility to your channel. I enjoy your content. Keep doing what you're doing. 👍🏼

    Good video and review….
    Regarding a generator running “everything”…is running everything without regard to load realistic in a boondocking setting? I always look at dry camping as an exercise in resource management; fresh water, waste water, propane and electricity. A 5,500W generator puts out about 45 amps. That is a healthy amount of amps.
    Yes, the client should understand the limitations going in, it should they really expect to run three ACs, the microwave and a hairdryer all at the same time while boondocking?
    I enjoyed this different perspective showing a client’s specific needs. I assume this was a virtual consultation and needs assessment and not an in-person inspection, right? Otherwise you would’ve had video I think.
    Well done!

    A good 5th wheel would be go buy a 53 foot trailer (trans port trailer) you can get a good one for a few thousand , take it to a shop get it gone over , take it to a cabinet maker , have him work with your mechanical people to turn it into an RV , buy a tractor , a pete or western star or whatever you like looking at , in the long run will cost less than buying a coach or some cheap trailer and a pickup well not less than a coach just get a good one

    For those not aware, GE appliances ARE NOT any longer affiliated with General Electric. They were spun off and bought some time ago by Haier, 2016 rings a bell. Haier bought the brand and the GE trademark. Haier is a Chinese company, and nothing is made in the US. The GE RV air conditioners are made in China and are suffering the exact same problems Dometic Brisk Air IIs were due to inferior materials in construction when they were introduced - I had 5 replacements by Dometic on my old Heritage Glen. Anyway, don't be lured into any belief GE appliances in an RV are any better than any of the other brands. Personally, I prefer Colemans (also not made by Coleman) just because of the longest history in the RV space.

    • @undercoverrvtech
      @undercoverrvtech  Місяць тому

      Fascinating! Thanks for the info. I knew the units are made in chain but was not aware that Haier had bought the brand. I'm surprised that you had so much trouble with Dometic. I've worked on tons of Dometic and Coleman of all ages, and of the units that lost refrigerant within the 3 year mark it has been 10 to 1 Coleman over Dometic. Hopefully the manufacturer is able to improve their process on GE, I can't see how they are making money selling 4 ACs for the price of 1...lol

    • @robv4053
      @robv4053 Місяць тому

      @undercoverrvtech I have some insight there as I previously ran global manufacturing for building materials for an international company. To manufacture in our China plants, say versus our state-of-the-art Poland plant, the manufactured cost of the product was ~60% less. Materials and labor in China are much, much, much less costly. Now, compared to our production in our US plants, the same product manufactured cost was ~220% more than China production. I'm not saying in any way that Chinese manufacturing is the way to go. The fact is that the raw materials are inferior, workers are not invested and make pennies on the US dollar, quality control is terrible, and they have no trouble falsifying data. We manufactured in multiple locations in China, including having facilities right near Haier and also Electrolux.
