So great to be able to freeze the vid when the song ends just to see her smile. There's a thick magnetism that Jessie radiates. l feel a personal loss for some reason even tho l never met her.
I am old enough to remember the original 'Then He Kissed Me' absolutely love this version and then to read about that young talented singer leaving us far too early brought an old man to tears.
I know Lala Brooks of the Crystals personally. She's still performing major venues. I had the honor of sitting with Lala in my sister's backyard bbq a few years ago. She's a warm hearted, personable and humble woman.
The way these young ladies look at each other I don't think they are thinking of men. More power to them. I'm very sorry the young lady isn't with us anymore. I lost my sister to the same disease.
Same thing happened to me. It showed up as a recommendation when I looked for the KISS cover and I really liked this version and band. And she was so cute. I was stunned when I learned Jessi passed away. May she RIP.
Heard this version for the first time tonight. First time I ever heard of this group. Nothing so heartbreaking to fall for someone and find out they are already gone. RIP...
A song from a long time ago that says the innocence of the times. This song is one of my all time favorite and it took me back to those very special times. The kind of innocence that will never be again. What a shame that no one today or ever again in the future will know what it is to experience the first walk holding hands, the first hug give in love, the first kiss, the first racing of your heart, and the total mystery of what and why everything is happening to you. Today, it is just about sex and at an earlier and earlier age. My generation had something special. I hope you kids (yes, I said kids) can find this special love and tell your kids about it. Thank you for singing this song and putting your unique and special touch upon it.
I think about Jessie so often, even though i never knew her personally, I tried to help her during her hardest times in the hope that I would get to meet such an amazing artist. RIP Zazu, the flow of time is cruel, it's speed changes for each person.
@@davidponseigo8811 literally go on somewhere, if raising money for an artist with cancer is wrong I don’t want your version of reality, she’s gone by the way, so what are you even trying to do here ?
Those Darlins are one of my favorite bands. To everyone in my age category(Sept 59)-Listen to this then check out some of their originals and continue to check out new music. Don't get stuck in a classic rock rut.
Wow,love this version, especially the bassman with the walk-in,top!Great Spector song!He would have loved it,tnx beautiful people!!Cheers from Amsterdam.
A wonderful cover by a great band well worth exploring all of thier vast catalog. Jessi Zazu and the entire group have an intense passion. Miss your magic Jessi, There is A Woman in Guitar Heaven!!! 🎸 🎸 💕
Searching this song... this cover by "Those Darlings" caught my interest. It's so beautiful and earthy. The band is great and Jessi's life story is powerful. Ain't Afraid.
I just read that Jessi Zazu the singer died a while ago. What a shame. This happened to me with a man named Dave Hum. I discovered them after they died. But they both left a library of music for those of us momentarily remaining to enjoy.
much better than the original...a lovely woman whose life cancer destroyed far too soon...apparently it´s really true...the good ones always go to early...RIP Jessi...
I hate cancer. It took my father far too soon. It took my sister and tried to take me. Now I hate even more when I learned it took this lovely young woman.
Just love you guys. For real best sound ever!!! I love the woods so this is my home. Thank you for inviting me. Now if you don't mind I want to watch and listen to you do this song! Thanks for you, I've been blessed!
awesome rendition, vocals, rhythm, lead(need more), but the bass is the icing on the cake!!! p.s. in reading further comments, i read that jessi whom i presume was the lead singer had passed. i thank her in heaven for the joy she brought me✝
Really nice version, thanks guys! LOVE that it's natural and not pitch corrected, and the shaker rhythm adds so much. I'm thinking of using washboard in our version. :) Bless ya!
Had to give ya the like just for the improvised cover of the violin solo at the end-10/10 for getting the real meat of the solo perfect but the missing flourish at the end would have been the icing on the cake
cheers for the original composers of this song: Ellie Grenwich, Jeff Barry, and produced by P.Spector.....see LaLa Brooks perform this on Letterman recently...wow!
Feel like I’d only ever feel brave enough to tell a loved one this so figured I would tell the internet for some reason or other. The way her eyes look into nothing as she sings, I feel like I know what she’s thinking when she does , just on a human level it’s really lovely. So to learn that she is no longer present in corporeal form at least made me tear up a bit. Aha bless you love.... you’re still making an impact and that’s fucking dope as fuck. Fair play madam. And good luck to anyone else reading this ey.
Love this. beautiful. Had a bit of a crush on Jessie. Was lucky enough to see them live and actually even spoke to her for like 10 seconds. What a waste of life and talent. So sad.
(In an odd parallel to "Touched by an Angel"): "Then He Kissed Me" Lead/backing vocals by Jessi Zazu. Lead/backing vocals by Barbara Alston. Produced by Ellie Greenwich (also backing vocals). Special guest star: Hal Blaine on drums. "Hit it, angel girls."
I wrote about what you said. We live in a world with crooked politicians (which is ALL of them) and heads of corporations that rob us all everyday with price fixing and paying good employees 9 frigging dollars an hour so we'll never EVER have anything but poverty to deal with and crooks, thugs and psychos all over the country and what happens....Jessie dies at 28!! None of the crooks, liars and greedy trash that run this country die but......Jessie fights and still dies. She did more to make this world a better place than all those greedy crooked leaders of ours that do nothing for anyone but themselves. It honestly made me shed tears it's so unfair. I cried when she left us and thought surely she was going to make it somehow. I was so wrong. She never hurt anyone and made tons of people smile and happy. I can only think that God knows what he's doing and maybe he needed her more up their with Him than we do down here, and he took her out of this pain and suffering so perhaps she's the lucky one. I KNEW she had pain in her heart. I'm not smart enough to figure all this stuff out so I'll leave it all in Gods good hands. May the Lord bless and hold her in his arms. You're beautiful Jessi.
I didn't know her but I imagine she would never give up, and would always try to be positive. There is a lot that sucks in the world, but there is a lot of LOVE and beauty in the world. If we focus on what's wrong and what we don't have - the assholes win. If we try to enjoy every day, and try to help others, We win. Some folks live 20 years and some live 100 years. It's not the length of your life that counts - it's how you live it. I think Jessi knew how to live it!
I agree with you totally, but in this world today it seems it just gets harder and harder to find good people. I know they exist and always will, but the numbers keep going down as they stay to themselves and harder to get to know anymore. I think of all things in life the unfairness and injustice of it gets me down more than anything else. I do all I can every single day for animals and try to do the same for people but it's a lot more difficult in most cases. Even the best of intentions are met with skepticism as others wonder what your up to but I keep on no mater what. I'm here to make this world a little better place. Jessi did that all the time far better than I. I hope and pray she's in a far better place now and happy as she can be. God bless you as well.

Heard this and thought what a lovely voice she has and googled her. Heartbreaking. RIP. Gone too soon.

I've returned numerous times to watch and listen. Wonderful.
Such a sweet, intimate moment from a greatly underappreciated band. So glad I was able to see them play in person.
