I was a window cleaner in the UK for years, we'd get that albeit rarely, on windows after rain, Sahara dust would be my guess too.

Here in the Netherlands we get Sahara dust 2x to 3x a year. Needs a Southern wind after a long period of easterlies. A content maker here advises against cleaning with soap or chemicals if SP's because of the anti-dirt coating. SP's at an angle do better at self cleaning. That you are worried about the dust tells me you never lived in Bloemfontein in 1970. Kalahari dust covered the washing.

Thanks for your input. 👍🏻 MUCH appreciated. The consensus seems to be that this is Sahara dust. I only use water to rinse off the panels and then brush them off with a soft lint mop and the a squeegee. Bloemfontein was a town we went through as quickly as possible on our way to Yellow Sands caravan park in East London from Jhb. 😀

I live in the US, Montana to be more precise. The spraying you talked about, have you seen the plane that leaves this trail? White trails from high flying planes are known as contrails and have been a thing sense the advent of large planes flying at high altitude. I see them here and i have watched the planes leaving this trail thru a high magnification scope, the white trail originates from the back side of the engines......which is consistent with a vapor trail. I was a BMW tech for over 20 years and i believe that running chemicals thru an engine would do damage to the engine not to mention what the heat would do to change any chemical. I also have 20 solar panels in three arrays and the only thing that i have seen on them is residue from the fires in Canada and a few times a year pollen from the plants. If i had found the amount of material covering my panels that you had i would have collected it and sent it in for testing so i had an idea what was falling out of the sky. This spraying theory has some believers here in the states but so far i have found no evidence to support such a theory. I know that in the past there has been programs that did spray some crazy things but the spraying needs to be done at low altitude to be effective, UV breaks down everything and at high altitude the UV is many times more intense. Apologize for the long comment but i have seen to many just swallow this without any critical thinking or research to back up what someone else has said (also without checking into it more) when it is only a rumor at best.

Thanks Arnold for your detailed response. Much appreciated. I get you on the contrails. I remember watching them as a kid. I was fascinated by them. Not sure why though. BUT..... 😁 the contrails I remember used to disappear after a short while and also didn't stretch for miles and miles behind the planes back in the day. Who knows what to believe anymore in this crazy upside down world we find ourselves in.

High altitude definitely has higher UV. Some of my worst sunburns have been from hiking high in the Swiss Alps. Agreed on the conspiracy theories and lack of research. Lots of wild ideas out there lacking evidence.
As for the amount of residue on his solar panels in Italy it's almost guaranteed to be Sahara dust so I wouldn't worry about it. Some days we have air quality advisories here in Portugal because the sky is yellow/orange with Sahara dust.

Thank you. I have thought this for some time myself. But on this occasion it would appear that it is down to Sahara dust. Something that I never knew was even a thing before the comments on this video.I have a sample but not quite sure where to send it for testing. 👍🏻

We get dust from the central desert in Australia sometimes. Improves the mineralisation of our soil though so I don't complain. The rain washes it off the panels.

Are you sure it isnt sahara dust? We get that here in Portugal quite often I am always cleaning my panels off I rarely see the "chemtrails" here Also found having panels at an angle helps to stop them getting so dusty x

Thanks Mandy.I hadn't thought of Sahara dust. 🤔 I know I am more susceptible to this happening with my panels flat on the roof but I don't need to angle them to get full generation in order to get my battery up to full charge. Besides which I don't want the worry of them blowing into the neighbour's yard when it gets windy. 😁 Have you managed to sort out your power system now?

light dustings like this are the primary reasons not to mount your panels so very flat. Just my thoughts. at my house in Mexico (Southern Baja), my panels are fairly flat on a ground mount, and I get dust too. My big problem is NO RAIN to clean them ever, it just doesnt rain there ever.

@@FarmsVilla right now as I am not there full time, I have a tank that I call a truck to refill as needed. When I move down there I will be building a DIY atmospheric water from air generator to either completely handle my water needs, or at least drastically reduce the need of the water truck. Water is pretty cheap there, but I want to eliminate my need for anyone else and generate everything I need onsite. 😃

@@FarmsVilla you're not wrong at the basic level. The real difference between AWG and a dehu is the AWG has a storage tank, a pump, and filters/sterilizer to make it safe to drink. Some also have mineral packs to add stripped minerals.
I will be basing my design on the idea of an over sized dehu.
