This is the problem with new generations of boaters. Traditionally with this type of situation, the authorities let people get on with their lives and leave you alone as long as your sensible and respectful about it. Using common sense, and when someone rarely overstays, or breaks the rules, they get a little polite verbal nudge and all is well again. However, now we have people pushing for answers, wanting clarification etc, and this will end up like every other area of authority (the very thing living aboard traditionally escapes from), the authorities eventually come under pressure to set strict rules. That could mean moving on 30-40 miles on the 15th day for sure. Getting strict fines for over staying. Paying extra to use locks etc. All because it ends up having to be strictly controlled to pacify the irrational need for clarification. Extra staff employed to administer and monitor and fees and costs spiralling to the same as living on land. Just live and keep quiet.
great video and thanks to share info and time with us watchers. very easy to understand.
loving your vids dan, im new to this and trying to learn as much as possible. are there loads of places on the canals you can fill water up empty the loo etc. also how do they catch you if you over stay at the same place xx
Is it free to more anywhere besides the winter months?
I am having trouble finding a residential mooring in north Devon any ideas?.
great video love to do what you do on the boat
cleared up very well dan
Thanks Dan.
Thanks, I love making these videos and the support in comments and messages I get for them is overwhelming so if I can keep posting things that people enjoy or find useful etc then it is all good!
I understand the C&RT wanting to move people on from busy places, but why would they want to move you on from where you are? Hey, I know I'm 6 years behind, but the question still exists.
I've only just found your channel. I'm a regular on Cruising the Cut's channel. I'm a retired Australian, recently widowed, and I would love to come over and live on the canals for a time.
Hello! I have just posted the link in the video description! Missed that one! I have plenty of videos coming up... All fun and games on board with the recent weather... snow... gales... The great british springtime in full flow!
hi dan not sure if youll see this one but here goes ..... say you need to pick up monthly prescriptions from a medical centre / doctors surgery can u boat back to where u need to pick up medical supplys or would u need to bike there and if u have to bike there what sort of distance would u be talking about at worst senario
Great video, Dan. It is a dream I have one day to get a narrowboat and to take it easy for a while. I could catch the occasional pike, and throw it back, and perhaps even a wee chubb.
How are the moves regulated?
Cheers for posting Dan, but...
just one small thing mate.
Moving from "Place" A to "Place" B (stay 14 days) Move to "Place" C (stay 14 days) then move back to "Place" A is NOT my friend a "bona fide navigation" and thus can not be classed as a continuous cruise. This is how people without a home mooring draw the attention of the C&RT Enforcement officer, for not undertaking a continuous journey.
All the best
As David from Cruising The Cut points out, there is NO statutory limit, so the C&RT just make it up. Good luck getting that to stand up in court.
That is the real question, I see people from the canal and river trust every now and then but they might only be checking for licenses. It would be very tricky to say who has and hasn't moved unless someone is staying in the same place for months at a time, i know somebody who had a warning left on his boat about it though so somebody somewhere is definitely on the lookout!
what do folks do for a mailbox?
another great video, cheers dan for the effort of posting these.
Good on ya Dan. Thanks for the Helpful info. Thanks also for bothering ! Cheers Mate.
Hi dan what's the link mate, where you been for so long?????
Don't mention it! The video of the outside look at Tilly is uploading now as well!
what happens if you don,t move.
I lol with your place definition 😁😁😁👍
hi dan nice vids do u have a job ? or did u win the lottery. next where / which canal r u travelling on do u just go on and go off of that canal or do u stick to one particular canal colin
carper1325 I think Dan works two days a week to have a flexible life style from watching his other videos :)
Trouble is now they are starting to change the rules in some areas... Could be an interesting time!
crusing the cut, think david, says your a ledgend of sort of interesting Dan, miss ur blogs
Yeah pretty easy, if you are at a turning point then you have plenty of room on a small boat like mine... If you search for "Huge advantage of a small boat" then you will also see what I can do with Tilly at wider parts of the canal... a very handy trick indeed...
I don't think it's a matter of how long or how far, the rules are there to stop boats blocking, taking one spot permanently making it unfair for other boaters who may want to stop, especially in popular areas......
Haha, very true... I am not sorry for the last few sunny days though lol!
Well explained - and I hope the CRT mafia don't clamp down in the way you mentioned - it is supposed to be a pleasant experience, not to be hassled by mooring police.
Lol your right ...I wasn't paying attention to my spelling 😊👍
Sorry to c u go dan
Who actually checks where you are and how long you've been there?
The canal and river trust have people walking the towpaths logging boats! I know because I’ve been tagged as a naughty boy recently! 😂
IF ppl are continuously cruising, it should be moving more than a couple miles. That hogs up the space for others that want to visit that area. Just my opinion.
and stop laughing at your own comments ...its irritating...apart from that vids are reasonably interesting
