- Hello Friends
We hope you are well and healthy. Last week we went back to our home Narrowboat mooring on the Golden Nook in the van!
We needed a few things for adventures in Wales over the coming weekends, so decided to have an impromptu BBQ with friends. It was lovely to see our neighbours again and to catch up, even receive some dodgy gifts!!!
And we finally make the decision about the mooring and the studio….

You two and Luna always communicate so clearly what is in your hearts and minds. Sharing that with us is precious. I for one, when I read the headline, thought keep Golden Nook, your perfectly named mooring. Golden may refer to something happy and prosperous, something favorable. As for nook, it’s an area that provides security. See, perfectly named. You both know that you can afford it, you both know that you can, like Shell said, use it as your own personal Airbnb, and you need a break now and then from your family responsibilities, a different way to spend some time away than camping, and the connection with your friends that you have there. I think it’s meant for y’all to keep it, to have such a special place to go to not only physically when there’s time, but also mentally for restoration. There is my input! ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for this Lynette. We always appreciate your thoughts and perspective. Love from all of us xxx
I agree with all the advice already given about keeping the mooring. I had to laugh at Luna and Shell in bed, and the look Luna was giving you wondering whether she was going to be told off 😊
Luna’s worse than a toddler for wanting to be in bed with us Ronnie!!! X
I'm happy to hear that you are keeping the mooring 😁
It was a great evening -lovely to see you, it had been too long.
Even with the dodgy neighbours, it’s definitely worth keeping….. 😳😉😊😎😅😂🤣
Hi.. I agree with your choice of staying at your mooring.. you guys have worked so hard to make it something special 💜
Hey Lynda, we lost sight of how special it is..... xxx
In the US so, of course, I don't have a boat but I think what you have there is the best of both worlds. You've done so much work on the mooring as well. It's so much better than it was when you first got there. If I were you I would keep it as long as possible.
You are right, as you often are Dorothy xxx

It’s so difficult for you both at the moment with the pressures of your caring responsibilities. In a way you are lucky to be able to move your home to be nearer to your mother while things are so challenging but it must still be so hard leaving your lovely home mooring behind especially after all the work you’ve done recently. I think your decision to keep golden nook going for now is a good one. It’s probably best not to make too many life changing decisions when you have so much to deal with personally. I’ve also had a very challenging time caring for both my parents recently, unfortunately they were both unwell at the same time. Sadly I lost my mother in December and my father passed a few weeks later at the beginning of February, I’m still recovering from the heartbreak and trauma. Thankfully I’m retired because I have no idea how I would have coped if like you, I’d still been working. Take care of yourselves and each other. Sending love.
Oh Sylvia. We are so sorry for your loss. We do feel lucky, and this is such good advice "It’s probably best not to make too many life changing decisions when you have so much to deal with personally" thank you. Much Love to you from all aboard xxx
This is a pot of gold... keep forevermore love nblady in red .
You are right Paul, I think being away from it negated the specialness of it. Coming back for the night re-kindled our passion for the space. x
Your lucky to have such a good mooring. Parking for car and boat + garden and shed. All for £160 a month, what a jem.
Yeah you are right. We just needed a reminder of how lucky we are xxx
Good morning Shell Chris and Luna ,pleased the op on Luna went ok and she is ok ,the studio you built looks amazing well done both of you ,personally I love the golden nock what a perfect place to live if you are on a boat it sure is not expensive like a house is .that’s a good idea to turn the studio in to a BB I’m sure you would let it ok ,it’s hard work looking after your mother how is she keeping?,maybe it would be good to keep it for another year this will give you both time to think what you want out of life ,till next time take care keep yourself safe and we’ll ,Chris are you still working,Shell did not see what was on your new mug maybe you can tell us ,good bless all three of you ,lots of love and a big Hug 🤗 to Shell 🤗❤🇬🇧🎊🥱🤔🫣🤪🤫👀❤️❤️🤥🤥🤒🤒
Thanks for your thoughts John. We will see what the next 12 months brings…. Anything could happen. You take good care of yourself! Love from all of us xxxxxx
I have a canal side mooring attached to a small marina…. For me it’s perfect I have somewhere to park my car and I can get water from the marina …. Plus I’ve got a little shed on my mooring to put all my bits in … I’m a weekend and holiday cruiser not a live aboard …. I think you’re doing the best thing keeping your garden mooring for a year it’s such a great spot 👍
Yes we agree Charlie, I think it would be an instantaneous regret if we let it go now xxx
Guys, you have the MOST valuable thing in the world, more valuable than any house or posh boat.....one another, treasure that , your both very lovely indeed.
Gilly, thank you for this. We are very lucky that we never lose sight of this xxx
Totally agree. Keep your garden mooring going. It will keep CRT out of your hair, whilst caring for your families
Yeah, its the right decision at the moment Steve. Hope you're doing ok? x
@@ChrisandShell yep, planning to get upto the worcester & birmingham canal next month. Potentially staying around that area until next spring if I can stand the travelling to move every two weeks. The joys of being a CC non live aboard
Like you, I had my first mooring at Northwich Quay. During lockdown I headed to Chester and was quite struck with the setting of Golden Nook. As things returned to normal work took me up onto the Macc and engine trouble + low water levels kept me there. I've spent the winter heading South and I can say without a doubt I left the best behind. I'm coming back and have the Shroppie in my sights. Like you, I have parents that need care and my proximity. I think it's a good idea if you hang onto the mooring for another year. 🙏
Yes you're right Johnathan, and it's interesting to hear your thoughts on your travels. So maybe we could be neighbours? Take care and safe travels x
Looks a lovely chill out space, we've recently moved on to Golden Nook Farm Moorings, but the other end from you, so it's still new to us, we love it and will definitely keep it, good luck to you both and hope to meet you both one day, Gary & Keith 😊
Welcome to the Nook, and good luck to ya. We'll probably cross paths at the elsan first, it's Nook lore!!! x
@@ChrisandShell thank you, yes I'm sure we will and look forward to it, never seen anyone there yet 😂 x
I personally think that you should hang on to your mooring. It's such a wonderful space.
Our long term plan is to buy and live aboard our own narrowboat. We've done lots of research and we know we will want a permanent mooring, we have looked at marinas and know it's not for us but an end of garden would suit us perfectly. If we could find somewhere half as nice as that we'd be really happy. We had our first day onboard last week on a lovely day hire from Whitchurch Marina and loved every minute xx 😊 xx
Hey Roo,
We saw you guys afloat! Hope your adventure makes it into one of your vlogs? Yes its a special place. We just needed a reminder! xxx
@@ChrisandShell I actually have been having a few weeks off from filming, a much needed total break from vlogging to simply live in the moment 💚💛💚xx
Lovely video and great mug for Shell. If it is within your means, then definitely keep the mooring - is my recommendation. It is such a perfect bolt hole with the van or the boat and once the 'shtudio' is completed it will be a spot to rekindle artistic and natural energy. What ever your decision, don't have regrets about it and know that there will be plenty of other boaty decisions to make in the future that will keep you occupied. Stay safe
Sage advice, yeah we haven't even explored the creativity the shudio affords us yet. We just need more time! xxx
Hi Criss & She'll. I own a 50ft Boat on permanent Canal side Mooring in a nice Town. . Have looked for Mooring outside a town with a bit of land but was unable to find one in area I would want to be. Keep your Mooring because you are one of the lucky ones. I Enjoy your vlogs. Keep them coming. 👍
Hey David, Thanks for this. We will be signing another year definitely x
keep the mooring. You are blessed and it DOES give you an option. Another year will give you a better idea. Stay happy and safe.
Our 'home' mooring is at a boat club. It is not residential so we have to have a postal address and pay council tax elsewhere. There is no possibility of a shed or garden and while bbq's are allowed, fire pits are not. We can stay for fairly long periods of time but we can't live there. It is not 'home' in the true sense. Keep your garden mooring as long as you can :)
Thanks for this Andrew. It's been good to have such a positive response to this. And thinking back to marina life where we were restricted as you are now, we are definitely keeping hold of it for at least another year. x
She (Shell) is still beautiful even with a little change over. As a Traveller and somebody who lived in a cave for two years, seaman, African cyclist you must keep that gem moving. For me what I enjoyed most is the freedom and the peace and the FIRE. God how I miss a fire. KEEP THE MOORING for a year and then ask `luna what she feels. Stay happy luvya.
Thanks Rob. Yes another year for definite... It's to good to lose. Hope you're good buddy xxx
I have a CRT mooring on the tow path they say nothing on the tow path but we do all have a small wood store I would love a bit more space to have a shed etc. I do enjoy the chat from passers by so guess it would be a compromise but love your mooring
Hey Ricky, living as we are at the moment on the towpath, I understand how you feel xxx
I rent a rough and ready mooring in a lovely marina on the G&S canal. My proplem is I have been looking for a boat for three years and the prices have gone so high that even rough boats are too expensive. I prefer yoghurt pots, but the long ones are as rare hen's teeth. Looking at sailing boats.
Keep searching Paul. Fingers crossed you find a bargain soon x
I think for the price you keep it, youll have that "home" back up place to go should you need too.
you're right D! xxx
Didn’t realise just how much noise you have there😳
Its right next to the road…. It’s quieter on the other side of the bridge…. 😊
