What was your favorite part of the Direct?
The Museum was my favourite part, followed by being able to place any furniture (even dinosaurs) outside and the landscaping. so cool.

I haven't heard many people say this but I'm actually really looking forward to interacting with the villagers. The little animations like eating icecream and sweeping add so much character and cuteness. Also the idea of a morning aerobic session made me so happy!
7:25 Breath of the Wild is the game where I barely wanted it to rain and Animal Crossing is the absolute opposite. I love how many shelters and hideaways I'm going to make for my villagers in the rain!
You want it to rain. Big fish coelocathe comes out. 12-15k bells. Better get out there. Burn the midnight oil. The grind dont stop.
I think this game will make me hate winter in Animal Crossing a little less.

Islands don’t have to be “tropical” lol
It’s still using a lot of aesthetic for the tropical vibes, yes
But we have all 4 seasons

The island in new leaf is tropical
Now the question is, the islands from the nook exploration are tropical? I guess no because we saw some seasons there but I could be wrong ( I mean, why would you put seasons on a RNG islands, it would defeat the purpose of waiting all year )
islands definitely don't have to be tropical, no! but they've shown a lot of very bright colored tropical themed outfits for NPC's, decor for buildings, etc. but we're getting so much customization, we can make it into whatever we want!

I have a feeling if they have implemented a way to decorate villager houses it will work like this. They ask you like a favor, similar to getting them furniture but instead you head to their house & put it where u want aswell as rearrange what they already have if you want. That's how I see it working if it's included.

i think it could just be furniture because we had a tombstone piece in new leaf plus there is a path next to it, so the player obviously could’ve put it there idk though

What's everyone's town going to be called and themed around? Mine is going to be called porridge and be witchy/ cottagecore themed. Btw love you lots mischa! 💕
i don’t know what i want to name my island but i wanted mine to be slightly witchy and cottagecore themed too!
Mine is gonna be named Lesbos, after the island of lesbians. I will probably divide it into 4 parts and each part will be a season, with 3 other characters who are based of cute female characters from tv series and movies that i like. 🌈

I really love your choice of music for subscription jingles. Zelda's lullaby, Spirited Away, Ponyo. THAT'S how you make noticeable jingles that don't get annoying as soon as you get two or three in a row.

i really want to know if the villagers will have to build their own houses too. or like since they’re moving to a deserted island they wouldn’t have fully furnished homes like they do in new leaf, right? i would love it if we got to see the villagers slowly furnish their homes over time/build their own homes

We've seen villagers holding sticks and such so maybe they have to upgrade their house and that
Mischa, I can't wait to watch you play NH. You were the first Animal Crossing channel I watched years ago when I got New Leaf, so being able to watch you play New Horizons feels very special to me.

During the museum trailer on the ACNH website we see a fish that can only be found from diving in new leaf so the wetsuit may be back or we can just catch the diving fish with a rod
Some deep-sea (diving) fish in New Leaf were "regular" fish in past games, like lobsters and octopuses, so reverting a few others back doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
you best believe I'm going to be sitting through three hours of this. I love animal crossing so much as you are so fun to watch!
I agree with the tropical aesthetic. I’d much rather have a foresty and cozy looking town.
rye - chip same I think I’m gonna go for a Japanese forest themed.
It was interesting seeing so many other people try to guess what part is DLC (considering the gaming environment we live in today) only to later realize everything save for the holiday events is accessible in the vanilla game. My guess is that they are doing Holiday events that way so that, for the first year, people won’t get all the Holiday event items from hackers trading online. Everything else, on the other hand, will be able to be obtained super fast, though. But especially given the hemisphere selection, they aren’t as concerned with people speed acquiring the rest.
I do like the possibility that this allows them to update and/or enhance holiday events, in following years. But given this is the Splatoon/AC team, chances are once they are done with updates, our copies of the game will always have the holiday events online and offline. Just like how Splatoon 2 basically finished the updates and basically updated the game to have everything playable offline and in local multiplayer, removing the dependency on the servers to play all the game modes.
Not that it affects me much, as I always played the games at the regular pace. It’s what keeps me playing almost daily for 3+ years, on a title. I’m all about the ability to take my time to enjoy what I have without always running around in a hurry, not taking time to enjoy stuff. Anyway, I can’t wait for March 20th to arrive.
(Gulliver) As for Gulliver, I really hope he still asks you a geographical question based on hints, this time. It was a neat way to sneak in a part of “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” in the game, where if you get it right, you get a prize.
My biggest unanswered question, for the game, comes from the ability to move furniture in half-spaces. In Happy Home Designer, you could squeeze through half-spaces, but the animal villagers couldn’t. In this one, do they have the animations for doing so for both the player and animal villagers, this time?
I ask this because AI pathfinding is always a tricky thing to do, by developers, especially when tight spaces are concerned. It’s why almost every developer, out there, simplifies the possible movement paths if AI needs to traverse it. Half spaces here introduce way more complexity for them, but if they figured it out, it would look so good in the game. It would also not make me feel apprehensive about placing furniture half spaces apart when an animal villager visits.

I've never really played an Animal Crossing game, I've never really gotten interested in Animal Crossing.
I didn't know what it was about, I just thought it was a random game for kids and didn't care.
But now that I've seen the direct, like, I'm pretty hyped for this game, it seems fun, there's lots of things to do, there's cute characters, It's a no brainer that i'm gonna buy this game.

I think the only reason they called it "Ninten" is because in Japanese one way to say 'island' is "tō", so in the Japanese trailer you would read it as "Nintenとう"("Ninten-to") when they talk about the island :D i think it's clever, but hopefully we can choose longer names!

The market value of various fruits should vary, depending on abundance. In the first game (the one I played) the _indigenous_ fruit was worth less than ones you import and plant. But, once they've been planted in abundance, that should change. It'd encourage people to plant variety. Plus, it'd teach some basic economics.

Yeah im probably going to use planning later into the NH lifespan but for the start, I'm going to just try and let it grow naturally, and not controlling where villagers live or anything like that. I don't really have a choice though, my exams are in May and June so I need to focus on them and just Playing NH as a relaxation tool😂
When people ask why we would need all these decorations that do nothing, do not be discouraged! Just take great photos in camera mode with these decorations!

I think, just like with the furniture (they showed it in the Treehouse gameplay) you can put them down and they‘ll appear as an item thing (leaf, toolbox), or you can place them as the item they are.

I'm a fan of the what I assume is the Dodo airport theme. It sounds like an illusion to the Post Office, which was also bird and flight related with a fun playful melody!
totally with you on hoping for villager requests to decorate their homes. Fingers crossed for fleshed out Happy Home Academy
I feel like many of those were foreshadowed in Pocket camp. As simple (and let's be honest, kinda repetitive) the phone game can be, it actually introduced more than half of those new features. Going in island in order to mine. Getting wood/wool/iron in order to make furniture. Travelling different spots in order to get fruits/fish. Constant, seasonal updates. Putting items 'outside" and much more.
That all said, it's a little letdown that you can't choose the clothes for you animal friends, like in Pocket Camp. As far the trailers goes, you can only do it inside special island for stage plays. That's why I'm not sure about customizing the villagers house either.
24:45 The biggest mystery I'm excited for is interaction with villagers. Do we arrange to have a gathering like this? Is it a coincidence? Do expressions get reactions from villagers moreso in this game? I hope it's not spammy commenting my highlights as well. I'm curious what people think!
Some sort of cinematic/idle camera would be amazing. Something that just sort of switches between different camera shots highlighting different parts of the island or what other villagers are doing.

I will be so happy if there is some element of cooking in the game. I saw a few characters eating during the direct and an oven with pizza inside. It would be so cute to bake cakes and make dinners or snacks for villagers as a present or for their birthday!
24:50 fun fact that nobody asked for, but they actually put asian food items on the picnic. there's dango, sushi, a bento box, what i think is some onigiri, and then tea. just wanted to tell you the attention to detail there

Now that I think about it, cooking in new horizons might be very likely. If we eat fruit and have enough strength to move trees, then who’s to say that we can’t bake or make different foods that give us more strength or an extension to that “stamina” 👀

Too much redundancy imho. They couldn't design a variety of tree models for different tree types? I mean, it looks like the fruit trees still use the same basic model as the standard trees. Then there's the pine type and a palm type, but that seems to be it. (like the older games)
The difference is in the fact that normal trees get things like holiday lights, beehives, turn cherry blossom, etc.. So if you made everything a fruit tree, you wouldn't get those aesthetics.
All of that made sense, since the original Animal Crossing was designed for the N64... but the Switch has alot more ram and resources.

Regarding 15:00, it's really not a tropical island. It's just an island, seeing as it gets all 4 seasons. For all we know the town in New Leaf could have been an island as well, just bigger lol
definitely! but they still use a lot of colorful tropical themes in NPC clothes, some decor, and the UI, which is just not my personal style. but the island/town itself can be made into anything, which will be awesome ^_^

@@mischacrossing I hate to be pessimistic here but I'm going to say this is as close to the final build as possible - given we've had a similar situation with Pokemon Sword/Shield and people said the E3 build wasn't the final game, or whenever they posted a video that had the lines "Game Footage Not Final" (Even a week before release) people would always say that it wasn't the final version...
Turned out with Pokemon Sword/Shield it was. Now I'm not sure what new Info we got from PAXEast, but I would theorize Diving may have been cut (if it was, it could be added back in via a future update) due to Party Play because of the restrictive Camera and whatnot, don't want to pull everyone in the water if only one person has a diving suit...
