Got my Ron today. I’m happy. I appreciate the review. The way you turned them and caught the gleam in the light reminded me of the original commercials from 84. 👍🏾
I got the official TT and went with the Shadow Fisher kits...I'm not switching those out for these God awful XTB figures. Whoever at XTB greenlit these deserves to be fired. I'll wait to see what the FT's versions look like. I don't have my hopes up looking at those renders.
great review! I just got Ratliff and am working on transforming him to vehicle mode, following your video. I have to say, the plastic piece which does the swivel of most of the upper body terrifies me. It looks very very easy to break, especially over time. Because of this, I can't see me transforming it much. They should have gone with some metal pieces for such critical joints IMO. Maybe it will be fine, It just makes me very uneasy. Also, the leg collapsing was a nightmare! BUT I love the look of this thing!
These look pretty good. The flimsy spinning hinge bits in the middle of the transformation are a little troubling as they look like easy breakage points. Not sure if these are worth swapping out the Takara ones for tho, and not sure many people will pick these over the $40 Takara KOs.
Great sharing and review! I got my Ratliff a few days ago and it’s only the second Ratchet figure I’ve ever wanted in 28 years of transformers collecting. It does have a lot of accessories that I won’t use. I did swap out a few faces and the slightly smaller head size. I have kids and don’t even use the guns in any of my displays except for a few targetmaster nebulans, instead I give them doll house scale small fruits and tools and stuff I find artists making for doll houses. It’s an extra expense but fun. My kids enjoy them more when they are humanized with cool accessories. I’m always surprised this woke culture isn’t pressuring toy companies to stop including small guns with figures as accessories. I think xtransbots is always making worthy options and we should all be grateful rather than so critical. The sides under the arms isn’t perfect but squint your eyes and it looks great, lol. Worth the money.
Great review and solid points. I got my Ratliff a few days ago, and overall I like it, but I still don't know how I feel about it. The window paint is odd, but not a deal-breaker. I saw someone use polarized tape over the window and it looked really good. My concern is the "ab crunch" and shoulder joints. The connections are so dangerously delicate, and for some reason only partly diecast. It would be so much better if the whole joint was diecast or at least beefier.
They look great but I would keep my Takara and I'm happy with it. I can always add stickers to my Takara to make an cartoon look. I might get the Ratchet one since a peice broken off
Theyre ok. Better than what we had. Ill just wait for Magic Square. Theyre getting into the MP game finally and I know what Im going to get based off their Legends take, so Ill just wait given itll look like it walked off the screen.
Yeah I'm sure magic square would do very well with them. For now, I think I'm going for the voodoo toys version while I wait. It's not quite toon enough, but I'm ok with a little stylization.
I actually didn’t mind the Takara figures. But that’s because there weren’t really any other options at the time. Originally pre ordered the X-Transbots, then changed my mind when I saw the Fans Toys models. After seeing your review I’m now considering getting both & then sell off the lesser of the 2 when the Fans Toys comes out 😂 But it looks like most reviewers have that waist clipping issue.
@@sw1000xgKnock it off with that. These figures are God awful. XTB tried to go too toon and failed miserably. And going for the ultra toon look with artwork and animation that used various forms of cheat animations and then trying to apply that same technique or whatever to real life figures is a recipe for disaster.
@@PrinceRawD You're literally saying they're God awful in another comment? What's wrong with you? They're near identical to the cartoon Seems you never wanted to like them and are just here to hate on them Very sad
@@sw1000xg No I'm saying they're God Awful in the same comment. The TT figures are showing their age so yeah, I'm waiting for adequate replacements. These God awful XTB's figures are not it. Using faux chest and still not being able to achieve the desired look is a fail.
The transformation makes me think this was designed by the same person who did Fuzz (Streetwise), definitely looks like there is some unnecessarily small parts to move. I like complex transformations but this looks like it is the wrong side of complicated for me to enjoy. I have each of these as Masterpiece and was thinking of replacing one with XTransbots and the other FansToys, but I think I will stick with Takara for now (and one?) FansToys in a few years if I like it.
Everything on the bot form looks really solid here until you get to that eyesore of a painted faux chest and robin's egg blue color choice for all the faux windows. Couldn't get past it and ended up pre-ordering the FansToys instead. I'm OK waiting since we already have the Takara. Showing their age, sure, but they are fine as placeholders for me until FT gets around to doing these characters. That's before seeing the chrome bits and parts falling off during the complex transformation, tolerance/paint issues, which I sort of associate with XTB more generally. A lower price point might have served XTB well here. At $150 to $175, the chest and the unfinished sides aren't the best. The transformation engineering lets the figure down in some predictable XTB ways. Some of the accessories choices really seem to exist to jack up the cost. I haven't been too impressed by XTB since the excellent Fioravanti.
I have knock-off versions of MP-27 and MP-30. The only thing that bothers me about these figures' robot modes are the side pieces... but even that is a minor issue. The panel lines in the chest are so minuscule that it doesn't bother me. The robot modes overall look so much better than the official Masterpiece versions that I would definitely buy them - if the van modes were not designed as they are. I just can't stand painted windows in a Masterpieces scaled figure. They should be translucent. Also, those right frontal side panels don't seem to tab in to the windscreen piece properly even though they should. That's a typical X-Transbots problem in build quality. If I didn't know that Fantastic Model will release its own versions eventually, I still might consider these... but since I do, I will not get these.
I feel like I bought them to have toon representation of this character but don't really like them. What bothers me first is the ready to break connector of top and bottom half. Then the side panels and finally the transformation. After kup I'm less bothered with xtb transformations. Cause they will stay in 1 mode prob forever.
The chest looks way off and the proportions look silly too with the skinny legs and thigh. Side skirts aside I like the proportions on the Takara much better
the fake windows are laughable. they tried to hide it by doing it that way because with clearish windows it would so much worse. also the panel under the windshield looks like crap, too. almost like it has buck teeth.
Naw, TT still holds up compared to XTB. The hip kibble and the back is where TT fails but the faux chest, odd looking pelvis and overall look of the XTB figures is the main reason why that company continues to be hit or miss with no in between. Whoever at XTB green lit this needs to be fired
Yeah, kind of weird how the Takara versions hold up better than others even though they're kind of dated in my opinion. These new ones have potential, but not enough to replace or buy instead of the Takara MPs
@@jalengatton They had potential based off the excellent products XTB made before with Inferno/Grapple/Hauler and Cosmos being excellent figures IMHO. There was no rush to put these out. They should have let these figures incubate a little longer

I went with KO MP Ironhide & Ratchet and the Shadow Fisher hip kits. No reason to switch, here.

Idunno.. the chest just kills me. Faking a window with paint works some places.. but not here.. and in both modes it's faked. Bugs me
Agreed. And the lines are an eyesore.
Big square holes on the door and in the side window.....the masterpiece works just fine for me, I don't care about wheels on the butt.
Hopefully, toyhax can make something to doll this up. I sure like what xtransbot did here, but they just F$&ked up that chest.
I think xtb really did a great job! And definitely an Upgrade over the original.
