The port of Los Angeles and adjacent Port of Long Beach account for almost 350 billion dollars worth of cargo (nearly 200 million tons) and account for almost 25% of all goods entering the United States. If you buy something that is made in China, there is a very good chance it came through here. Fun fact about the Vincent Thomas Bridge - it is the only suspension bridge supported entirely on piles, which means they stuck the support beams into the ground like you or I would do with a stick on wet sand. It's also been in Gone in 60 Seconds, Inception, and To Live and Die in LA, among others. Thanks Micah for the night view!
Great video of LA at night, I lived all around and in LA for 60 yrs, lots of memories. I worked in the Paul Hastings tower (ARCO) at 5th & Flower, just SW of the US Bank tower in 1995. At lunch we would walk to lunch in a 3 block radius, 100s of places to eat at.
I drive to LA and SD frequently(from Phoenix) for work and it’s been straight EERY how easily you can get around the city there’s so little traffic! Btw Seattle has a killer skyline as well.
I think a great flight would be to Victorville, to the SoCal Logistics airport, where many of the 737s are stored right now, along with the airplane graveyard.
2:25 Los Santos Docks 3:53 Los Santos Port 4:48 South LS Bridge (blue lights) 5:30 Jefferson 5:33 South Los Santos (strawberry, Davis) 7:09 Downtown LS 8:25 Market District LS 9:16 Los Santos River 9:24 Los Flores if he flew over entire LA I could've gotten more places that GTA 5 copied.
I used to take first-time fliers up at night out of Torrance. I'd depart to the west and tell them to keep looking straight ahead as I crossed the beach and stayed low over the water. I'd do a 180 and climb, revealing the city lights of Los Angeles in an endless carpet. It never failed to get oohs & ahhs - absolutely spectacular. Thanks again for memories, Micah.
That view of down town! I lived there from 1990 to 1996. I’ve been gone for a minute but every time I go there it feels like home. Thanks for doing this! “I love it La... we love it!”
I love flying in to San Diego at night all the hills covered in lights looks amazing. Seeing sports fields lit up and crowds of people is also a pretty sight.
My girlfriend and I lost our cat (Remi) on the morning of the 3rd from a week long battle with a complete kidney failure. This video is incredibly interesting to me as it snapshots exactly what Los Angeles looked like while we were trying to save her just over the hill in Sherman Oaks. The world had stopped for us, our only focus was on trying to save her... and it's really touching and beautiful to have a record of what her last night looked like from above. Thank you for posting these flight videos. This one in particular really means a lot. Truly, thank you.
Thanks for all the great videos. My home was Long Beach from 1967 - 1973. Huntington Beach from 1974-2004. Redondo Beach from 2005-2012. Live in Thailand now. Your videos revived lots of great memories.
I really enjoy your flyover videos. Before you were born there was this tawdry but fabulous TV show called Dynasty. The building used for the Denver Carrington building exterior shots is the Bank of America building you flew past toward the end of downtown, just to the left. I always recognize it due to its shape and the fact that, while it sits on a normal rectangular lot, the building is set at an angle to the others nearby. Great video!
I am a very non current fixed wing rated pilot that took my lessons out of Long Beach Airport. While working on cross country time I would fly to Bracket at night for a milk shake and time my return to arrive over Disneyland at 9:30 to have the fireworks shooting up towards me. Yes, it was legal in the 70's. Then I was lined up for 25R at Long Beach. I loved night flying and your Long Beach videos are bringing back some awesome memories. Thank you.
Flying at night, great views, less air traffic and no birds. Not a bad time to fly it seems. Great stuff. Thanks for continuing to produce more fun and interesting content for the rest of us, who are stuck and bored out of our minds. Living vicariously through you and your videos. Continued safe flying.
Ya, LA at night is so spectacular. I recognized many buildings you flew over, the Bonaventure, LA Library, and many bank buildings I use to work downtown (Wilshire & Grand) at "The One Wilshire" building. Boy..., that was over 20 years ago! Stay safe. Thanks again Micah!
Thank You Micah for the epic view of the City Of Angels at night. It brought me memories in 2013 I had total power failure in a C182 and I flew from Down Town L.A to El Monte Airport (KEMT) with out lights or Radio, The tower was closed and I could not turn the Airport lighting on to see the airport. It was the scariest moment in flying for me, specially when you have passangers. Keep flying Low And Slow My Friend.
I flew over LA in a passenger jet one time never forgot it ! The pilot turned the plane left bank everybody gasped how all the lights were so beautiful! I miss LA in the 60s!

Another enjoyable flyover Micah! Thank you! Looked liked there were quite a few cars on the fwy, for 11pm. Know you stated you have a long list of flyover requests..Catalina would be great to see (IF you don't already have that one, on your list). Cheers!
It was 1993, getting checked out in a 172 out of LGB, instructor pulled the engine to idle for a simulated engine failure. I took it all the way down to the flare there next to tracks @ 4:30. Instructor added full power and we climbed out of there. Good job he said. I really thought we were going to land there!
I love watching your videos as I love LA and get to see it from a different angle to when I have been there. I also follow another vlog called Daze with Jordan the Lion. He does videos about entertainment history, visits filming locations etc. It would be cool if you two could get together after lockdown and talk about movie and tv history while flying over the locations.
This is an exceptional aerial view of Los Angeles; when I was in the Navy (Long Beach Naval Shipyard), if was not too foggy or smoggy going across the Gerald Desmond Bridge during the day to Long Beach, I was able to see downtown LA, the Hollywood sign, Century City, the Santa Monica Mountains & the snow capped San Gabriel Mountains. Thank you for sharing with us.
I still remember crossing a bridge over the port at night looking at all the rail and container yards lit by sodium bulbs so evenly. Such a surreal sight...
Darn, Micah, when you did your left hand turn and we could watch the very slight curve of the horizon, simply beautiful. No wonder this city always looks great from the air in television shows and films! Loved music 🎼🎼🎼
7:05 - Wow, it's like Blade Runner! I visited Los Angeles about 15 years ago, and hated it. Smoggy, gross, dirty concrete everywhere. Seeing the city from a different angle and under different circumstances has softened my opinion, a bit. Someday, when we're allowed to travel again, I may have to give LA a second chance.
Wow...LA is so beautiful at nite, I remember back in the day fly at night looking down u see vast of yellow lights, now mixing LED make it so colorful, beautiful evening..good work!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💙💙💙💙
I just recently discovered your you tube channel. Back in 1980 I purchased a portable VHS VCR and camera. The Recorder weighed 21 lbs and the camera weighed 13 lbs.I was invited to video tape some friends as they went hot air ballooning. I was happy shooting the whole set-up inflating of balloons. Then following them in the chase van. When they invited me to get in the balloon with my video equipment I was a little hesitant. But I did it and became instantly enamored with the feeling of looking down at the earth from 300' up. I was in video shooting heaven. I went up several times with them. Loving the video tape I shot. Next I duc taped my camera to the landing strut of a friends cessna. We did touch and go landings at several L.A. area airports. Then watched the video tape with fascination. Seeing your helicopter videos has brought back all those cool memories. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
I’m a student pilot in a small town in Norway. I’m shocked it’s so chill to fly downtown next to those buildings especially after 9/11. NOT complaining, it’s awesome. Just surprised
Helicopter pilots have a lot of flexibility with where and how they fly here. But I understand your surprise. Unrelated, I spent a week in Norway back in 2001 (not long after 9/11). You have an absolutely wonderful country. Cheers!
Ive been driving all over l.a exploring it and seeing new things. These videos show it in such an amazing way. I wish i could go on a heli ride with you.
Hi Micah. Another great video! What was your altitude when flying over the downtown towers? I think you said you were at 1400 feet? The top of the spire on the Wilshire Grand (1100 feet), as well as the top of the US Bank building (1018 feet) make them the tallest, and third tallest, buildings in California. They are both in a class of buildings known as 'supertalls' which are buildings over 300 meters high (984 feet) as per the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. You were probably 300 feet above them but it looks like you were so close. It would be really cool if you could do another flyover of the towers in the future when they are occupied (meaning lots of office lights are on) and at twilight. Most buildings look best at twilight IMO, especially glass towers. Another thing a lot of your viewers may not know, is that for around 40 years it was part of the Los Angeles building code that any building over 75 feet must have an emergency helicopter landing pad. I think this was removed from the building code around 2014. If you see these, they will have a large number in the middle of a circle on the helipad which tells the pilot what the weight limit is (in 1000 pounds) for that landing facility, so a 12 would mean 12,000 pound limit. Two of my most favourite things: flying and skyscrapers, yet I am afraid of heights 😢
This brings back some fun memories of when I used to go up often in my brother's helicopter (he had a Bell JetRanger) nearly 30 years ago. And yes, night flights are FANTASTIC. I recall coming back one night from Newport Beach and I asked the pilot to fly over downtown L.A. We flew just below rooftop level (73 floors) of what is now the U.S. Bank building. Oh, great fun! Thank you for these videos -- love 'em!
Micah, Love your Helicopter videos, This one at night is by far my favorite, I've chartered private Choppers over the Grand Canyon and here in Northern California, But, These at night are awesome!
The reason there are no airplanes is because the nighttime configuration is “over ocean”. So traffic landing LAX comes in over the water landing on the north complex and departures come off the south complex. It may have changed some, I retired 6 years ago. But I worked that airspace for over 20 years. Thank you for letting me see what all those visual reporting points actually look like.
This in 4K at 60 frames would be so much better - beautiful none the less! 👍🏼 That us bank building is gorgeous. My dad actually worked there when being built - he poured concrete.
Beautiful view. Love your work. It was only with this night flight that I realized my S10 phone would see more if this flight was in 4k. I you ever upgrade your belly camera could you consider 4k one of the features..... grin, thank you
Night flying is great, the only issue I have is sometimes finding the airport when you come in to land in a sea of lights. I was almost on top of the Savannah, GA airport when we finally had eyes on it and one time flying back into Orlando Executive I was like uhh crap because it's so close to Orlando International and I didn't want to get into the Class Bravo on accident!! Keep it up but don't get burnt out, we love them!
Your videos are awesome. I also appreciate how humble you are. I love your videos because I am California born and raised. My brother owns a home in Huntington Beach and I’ve spent some time there. I’m not sure how far north you can or are able to fly but I’d love to see Santa Cruz beach. I spent my childhood summers there. California will always hold a piece of my heart. Anyway, you are an awesome guy and I love and have recommended your channel to everyone I know.

I was almost on top of the Savannah, GA airport when we finally had eyes on it and one time flying back into Orlando Executive I was like uhh crap because it's so close to Orlando International and I didn't want to get into the Class Bravo on accident!! Keep it up but don't get burnt out, we love them!
Excellent views. I have to get on them Hollywood mountains for something like this
Another benefit of night flying, no birds! Thanks for another great video.
it's great how you always wrap your vids a with high-speed sequence back to your home airport.
So beautiful at night! Such a different perspective from daylight. Thanks for sharing,Micah!
