Her accent fascinated me. She is Argentinian and I love that.I love every major interpretation of Evita because none are alike. The actresses who portray Eva make her their own and I cannot compare them because they each are beautiful but different.

To those who criticize our Elena Roger fiercely in his role of "Evita" on Broadway and making comparisons to Patti LuPone, 1980, need to know that Eva Peron is, was and will be Argentina, as Elena Roger.
A todos aquellos que critican ferozmente a nuestra Elena Roger en su papel de "Evita" en Broadway y hacen comparaciones con la Patti LuPone de 1980, tienen que saber que EVA PERÓN es, fue y será argentina, como Elena Roger.

Elaine Page is wondwefu! I`m argentina, I saw to Elena Roger in Buenos Aires, before Evita. I thought that she is a good singer and dancer and has a lot of years for to continue growing. In Piaf she was fantastic.

I saw Elena a couple days ago and I can't stop watching videos of her now, I love her energy and those high notes! Personally I don't like LuPone, but I just don't like her tone, I like her energy as well but I can't listen to her very long I feel like she's shouting at me. If I had to choose another Evita it would be Elaine.

@misskolling Elaine Paige actually was the original Evita which premiered in the West End. Patti Lupone did it when it came to Broadway a few years later

Evita although based on truth is a musical theatre character. I haven't seen Elena in person so I can't judge her but I saw Patti and she was great. I preferred the touring Derin Altay around 1981. To say Eva has to be Argentinian in "Evita" is like saying all "Macbeths" have to be Scottish. I will give Elena the benefit because I haven't seen her live.

I hope so. Honestly. I can't think of any other actress who could top her performance for this season,

@BubblyBrainiac Well said! Every artist brings something different to the table in terms of vocal quality, movement and theatricality. It doesn't have to be a comparison shopping competition. All can be enjoyed on their own merits. It is a matter of personal taste who is the best.

@Rodeo6521 Yes, I couldn't have said it better myself. Each artist puts their own stamp on it when they nail down the role. I think Elena Rodger sounds more like Valerie Perri (another original who opened the Chicago company) back then. They are all great performers and Rodger's has a fresh style and exceptionally worthy performance. The music and dance are more West Side Storyish with catchy latin drum beat rhythms on Buenos Aires number. It's a fresh and exciting new version!

so where's the fire??? like all the musical theatre stars today, lots of technical knowhow, but
no soul. i hope ricky martin doesn't disappoint. mandy and patti were in their 20's with enough presence to knock the walls down.

The original Evita is Patti Lupone.

Best delivery, of all the versions I’ve heard considering what a horribly-written melody the song has. Every single Evita actress that has done this song loses the melody as the lyric descends into “...little bit of star quality...”. From Elaine Paige, to Lupone, to the ons that came after. And it’s not them who are at fault. It’s Weber’s melody. Just because it sounds easy to traverse octaves on a piano for a distinctive melody doesn’t mean it will sound good in voice. The MOMENT you lose the lyric, you must change the melody or change the arrangement around it so it is heard, at all costs. Dunno how he got away with not changing it, after Lupone couldn’t make it work. She’s the worst of all the Evitas on this particular number. Potatoes in the mouth, and heaven knows what she’s singing. If it’s your first time seeing the show, you get stranded from the plot.
