I'm sorry that this is a real phenomenon. I am guilty of this in a certain respect by perhaps being overly curious in the past and asking converts too many questions . You and your family have voluntarily shared your story, but sometimes well-meaning people ask Jews by choice what led them to their decision. I imagine gerim from "exotic" backgrounds, African-American/Carribean, Korean, etc. attract these questons more than say, an Italian-American convert would, because they'd morer easily blend in. Most people mean no offense and are genuinely fascinated, for many it helps strengthen their own connection to Judaism to hear converts' stories, but I imagine it is tiring for converts to always be asked to explain their decisions. Another issue, sometimes, unfortunately, is when Orthodox Jews hear someone is a convert they want to confirm that the colnversion was an Orthodox conversion in accordance with halakha before they count someone in a minyan, or ofefer synagogue honors like an aliyah or opening the ark. When they see a Black Jew or an An Asian Jew in a synagogue they will immediately want to know the details of the conversion (bearing in mind that some people with these backgrounds aren;t even converts but halakhically jewish from birth), but some people at a synagogue may ask questions in a way that makes someone feel uncomfortable. They mean no harm, but I can definitely see how this is offputting and could cause unnecessary offense to a convert. Other Jews need to ask these questions much more sensitively and tactfully when they meet converts, and unless they really need to know whether someone is a halakhic Jew in terms of being counted in a minyan or something like that; they shouldn;t ask for any details unless the ger volunteers, and they must always ask with the utmost tact. I myself in the past have probably caused offense by being unduly curious.
Thanks for sharing. Some mea no harm, and there are some who actually do mean harm. When it comes to genuine curiosity... we completely understand. And that is no problem at all. I think it's about "what is asked and how its asked!" There needs to be a sensitivity when engaging in conversation with those who are going through their gerut!
@@houseoflev Yes unfortunately people are people, every group has kind and sensitive and tactful folk and every group has people who are just jerks and hurt feelings whether out of ignorance and unawareness or deliberately with malice.
Am Yisrael has been attacked by the nations since its inception. We converts also need to be mindful of the deep pain that Am Yisrael has been through that would make a person not treat a convert in a manner HaShem desires. As there are non-converts that treat converts with negativity, there are converts that do the same and some that fall away from the faith and truly become the definition of "skin disease" of Am Yisrael. All of Am Yisrael needs to be as loving as possible to each other, convert or not, and try to be empathetic to each other and lead each other to deeper devotion to HaShem.
I want to expand on what Chavah said and say: educating your children to love the ger tzedek is something which comes naturally as part of a comprehensive and complete Jewish education. Knowing the Emet, living the Emet, teaching the Emet means the whole Emet from Aleph to Tav. Meaning… a comprehensive Jewish education would not be complete without teaching that we are commanded to love the ger tzedek 36 times in the Torah and all the halachot which come with it.

The children will ultimately reflect the behavior of the parents. Likewise, those of us whose DNA markers clearly identify that we are from the Levant (Israel/Jordan….which is rare indeed but really sets a person apart in a Jewish community!) or DNA markers that identify our ancestry as being rooted in the Igbo (FYI - The Sephardi Rabbinate declared the Igbo Jews to be B’nai Israel/Israelites….not Jews…but actual descendants of Ya’akov in 2022) or Sephardi, Ethiopian, Mizrachi Jews….with ancestral roots in the Middle-East (not Europe). Born FFB Incan honestly day I think of Avraham , Ruth, Rabbi Akiva, etc and I see the Ger as more beloved because they chose and sacrificed for the truth it’s so important that we realize although Judaism doesn’t push conversion those who do are so dear to HaShem we need to embrace and see them as the Holy nishamas they are
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I am shocked and saddened. Love of the ger is so fundamental to Judaism. This kind of behavior is the worst sin, and really un-Jewish.

Absolutely ❤️
And the father of the faith 💓... Abraham was the first convert...
דברים י׳ י״ט ״ואהבתם את הגר כי גרים הייתם בארץ מצרים״
I am deeply ashamed that such things happen. I dont understand it.Where is these people's derech eretz? Where is the Yirat shamaim?
It is so clear from the torah how gentle and caring you should be with anyone, let alone gerim!
This is what Hashrm said many time in the Torah veahavta ete a Ger and should love the ger
the rambam said that the ger is higher than a born jew
Sad 😢

Everyone who converts deserves to be respected and welcomed. They too are ISRAEL!
You’re amazing. Thank you
@@houseoflev Know you are blessed and that you are, ISRAEL. Trust your wise selves and your faith in HaShem. Blessings on each of you. You are courageous people.
You are kind to have replied. Thank you.🙏🏽
Just to let you know, everything in Israel is different. The Land of Israel is a place of truth and compassion. I don't think anything like that would happen here.
That’s why we’re coming home
I love you

Judaism has become an exclusive club, sadly, and it reeks of arrogance and conceitedness at times in certain sects and groups.
