Good call on the point of failure, the failure mode of this thing is either bend or separate at the weld, and it would start to give and wobble before it snaps, so there is not that big of a chance of catastrophic failure in your face. I just got rid of whole bunch of scrappy, broken and useless tools because why even risk accidentally using a thing that will hurt you.
Smart man. The god of shopwork allows you to keep your fingers.
Top tip for size markings on impact sockets - colour fill the markings with a white oil paint marker pen, wipe off the excess with rubbing alcohol, and lo and behold, you can actually see the size marking!
I think they work. I got both of the one you showed. Time saver...
Cool. Use can also use it as a torque adapter with a box end wrench. Just keep it a 90 degrees, or adjust torque setting accordingly.
As someone who has forgotten how to accurately read the head of a bolt (and has broken so many as to be uncountable), putting a cheater bar on a wrench indiscriminately is a dangerous game. I like to start by linking a second similar sized wrench. I found I can control my torque better this way. I do like that the cheapy adapter is built to break well. Looks like a not to hard to make project for a home fabricator either.
I bought a VIM analogue for only 20$ and I like it. It's very comfort and safe to use. I also have the black one and I hate it. It's realy big and don't fit to tight spaces. The combination of wrench + adapte + breaking bar swivel a lot and don't have any advandtages over regular rectangular tube.
I could have used one of these once upon a time. Had a 14mm, long, box end on a nut, no room for anything more around it. Ended up using a 24” 1/2 drive ratchet, in the open end, with it to get that specific nut loose. The other 3 weren’t quite as bad.
on a budget or in a pinch one option is two 12 " rebar bars, and the wrench secured together with a few hose clamps. works well for most applications. maybe not for anything requiring high torque
I made my own no need to buy one no welding needed all i did is seen it on a video then get to work
also, you can use a bit of duct to keep the wrench from sliding around with the ones shown when it's not tightening or loosing. surprised they don't have a strap or mechanism to hold everything in place when you need to move the wrench.
I think Mueller-Kueps is top-shelf for the extender too. Their version has been around for a long time, might be wrong. Great video as usual thanks.
Yes, very nice. $72 on Amazon for the 13" one: amzn.to/3S5QAEx
$153 for the long one: amzn.to/3NO5e0o
I bought the JEUCLEL Universal Wrench Extender for 1/2 Inch Drive for 12$ on Amazon and couldn't be happier. Much stouter and skinnier than this one and has a neodymium magnet to hold onto the wrench
Was it this one? amzn.to/3tLCjTW
Thanks! That does look like a much better option. 👍🏼
@@lastbesttool that's the one. Thank you for all you do. Great content and has been extremely helpful the past year as I amass a tool collection.
Hello again, Doc 8:12
Thank you for another Great Video. 👍 I 've been researching this for a while now. I agree to there usefulness. But I wonder about how safe they are under a good load? I would think they must be better than two wrenches together etc. Again thank you 😊
Can we see the Wilton possibly? Have one of the nicest toddlers ever that I use regularly ….
I love your collection of tools. I don’t have the budget or space for many version of things. I know you love Snap On so I would like to ask you this. I would like to invest in a general service Metric and SAE wrench set(s). I like the flank drive not flank drive plus. Which SKUs would you recommend if you can if I had to get a complete Metric / SAE wrenches but only ONE set? Standard length preferable. Ratcheting box end not off the table. I’d save up! Would love your take on this.
Btw your Veto Pro Pack MC over-landing load out I’ve watched many times.
Did I see a Tsunoda triple joint plier amongst the tools there?
Every tool has it use. I’d be loathed to treat this as my only option out on the trail though. The depth it creates with the addition of a ratchet and socket will likely limit the opportunities this has to be used. And if it’s a 21mm that needs extending then your kinda stuck
Serious question, it looks like it’s made to tighten? Otherwise it’ll be on the wrong side of the wrench?
On the versions shown and linked here you would just flip it. There are other versions where you wouldn't need to as mentioned and Doc linked in the comments.
Both links are now the same price.
4:24.. it's so you can use a square drive ratchet other than that size(1/2" in this case) Say you only have a 3/8 socket kit. You can still use the 3/8. You'll just need to use the socket, not the square drive, so it gives you options....
6:07... SLIDE IT DOWN... SHEESH 😂you don't have to choke up on it...
Doc I had a k tool one of those. It failed on a inch and eighth wrench. My opinion total junk. Stay far away. The Muller Kueps is way better.
Seems like a pretty useless tool. You could just get a set of crow's feet and use them on an extended ratchet or breaker bar...
