Amazing how a group turned this simple 80's piece into a worldwide club phenomenon
That's what I thought it was at the start. Was waiting for the beat to drop... for a while 🤣😂
I was today years old that I found out this is where Opus III and Orbital nicked this from.
I thought it was awful. This original version is so much better. Why can't dance music DJs leave other people's music alone and make their own music from scratch?
I heard this on the Arrow. :) Good song.
@@andyhinds542 maybe because electronic music is basically built on all sorts of remixes, processing, mashups and sampling?
"It's a Fine Day" by Edward Barton can be interpreted as a reflection on the impact of war on people's lives and the hope for a better future. The opening lines of the song describe people leaving their houses and enjoying a short walk, which could be seen as a celebration of freedom and liberation after the end of the war. However, the repetition of the lines about sitting in a field and remembering plans that never quite came to fruition suggests a sense of loss and longing for those who did not return from the war. The line "Rain or appointments or something" may allude to the numerous impediments, such as war, that can hinder us from accomplishing our desired goals and aspirations in life.
Despite the losses and difficulties caused by the war, the refrain "It's going to be a fine night tonight, It's going to be a fine day tomorrow" offers hope for a brighter future. The final line, "We will have salad," can be interpreted as a symbol of health and prosperity, a reminder that the simple pleasures of life will return after the trauma of war.
Overall, "It's a Fine Day" portrays a bittersweet mix of celebration and mourning, reflecting on the impact of war on people's lives. While the song acknowledges the challenges and obstacles that war can create, it also offers hope for a better future and a reminder that the simple pleasures of life will return. In this way, the song captures the complex emotions and experiences of those affected by war and offers a message of hope and resilience.
So beautiful. This track lives on in remixs in modern music. Hope people get this message accross or atleast listen to the orignal

Not true. Many other songs as well. Take a look how insidious used Tiptoe Through The Tulips and made it creepy in that one scene. Everything is about context. A baby’s lullaby? - Sweet and adorable. But at night in an empty house when you don’t have a child? - Creepy.
It's hard to imagine how often this sort of thing happened to ww2 veteran wives. So many women and children were left without fathers after the war and this song does a good job at portraying not only the toil and hardship of war that these men edured but also the hardships that their families faced.
Toast Busters song was created in 1983 and I can assure you it has nothing to do with dying soldiers and war. It’s was a poem written by fella who’s girlfriend turn it into a song, they recorded and released it independently in mid 80s. Later on was covered by numerous artist like ATB and Opus...

This song could easily come off as creepy and/or haunting, but it can also come off as soothing and beautiful. It depends on how it's used.
+Whitney Miller I imagine the fact that it was sued in an advert that many think is cursed doesn't help.
This disembodied version is super creepy, but the melodies and hooks are expert level. If you heard that melody ("it's a fine day.." and "it's going to be fine.." in particular) just once it would be stuck in your head. Maybe not the words, but the melody.
Whitney Miller soothing
Whitney Miller just like the scp video
It is sort of haunting, but not in a creepy way, it's just so... melancholic. I really like it.
From what I see in the music video she lost her husband to the war. She came back to a specific location with their son that held a lot of memory for her because she spent a day with her husband at this specific place. It was a good day for them from what her memory tells. I understand what that is like, when you are grieving and go back to a specific place just to feel the memories of what you lost because you would do anything just to have it all back again♥️

This song is actually a poem by Edward Barton. Jane, the lady singing, was his girlfriend.
Her voice is so sweet, so pure and relaxing.
This is such an interesting song. I've listened to many remixes of this song before but didn't quite expect this. This song makes me feel a sense of sadness, like this song tries to capture an attempt at happiness in a sad atmosphere. Another thing is the way it sounds. I expect there to be more sung after every line, yet it stops before that happens.
Yeah. I feel like it's about a story of a mother, child, and father, who had planned on spending a nice time all together, everything's planned out to be perfect, but something horrible happens.
The planes and style of everything really stood out, I think it might be possible that it's a story about a family's time together cut short by some kind of mid-war bombing run or something.
Oh god, I'm three years late.
This is the original.
Only half a year late this time. Here is the short version:
Single mother takes her son on a walk, while remembering the past.
How her husband gave his son the toy car he now rides in as a suprise gift, before he went to war, before he never came back. And so she takes their son to the field they wanted to go to when he was still alive, but kept postponing for reason upon reasons. But live goes on and it's going to be a fine night tonight isn't it?
I feel exactly the same way.
The father leaves for the war as he’s in a Royal Air Force uniform and his plane doesn’t come back and she seems to regret not spending more time together?
I was impressed the first time. I bought the single. John Peel played it to me.
It's sad that so many people are freaked out by this song, I think it's relaxing
same
I think it's the combination of the singing that's out of tune in many places combined with the 1940s backdrop and the lack of background music.
It's also in a minor key, which is often used for sad or eerie music
Alex Cantrell I guess I find sadder music relaxing then cx

Wow. The Opus III version that became a hit worldwide doesn't have one ounce of the depth this original version has, it's incredible. Not to minimize the fact they made the song popular, but this is something completely different, it's a whole different level of art. And it's extraordinarily moving.
And yet it's... also simpler... you know you did something right when you can make that big of an impact by something extremely simple.

+Mystery History exactly... like WTF? Like listening an incoherent text of a mad person. Creepy af.
Definitely the most interesting and questionable part of the poem.
The first stanza is just filled with observations,
"People open windows
They leave their houses
Just for a short while
They walk by the grass
And they look at the grass
They look at the sky",
you just get a real sense of contemplation. The "short while" bit is very thought-provoking to me. It suggests that they're maybe not so comfortable outside, the people, that is. They look at the natural forms around them, and that's all we're told - nothing else.
And then of course,
"It's going to be a fine night, tonight
It's going to be a fine day, tomorrow",
just the latent optimism and execution of those lines tells me that they're somewhat ironic and possibly sarcastic. Whatever's outside their houses is affecting them, to the extent of which they need to tell themselves that it's going to be a fine day/night. It could possibly be sincere, but I don't see it that way.
"Sitting in this field
I remember how we were going to sit in this field
But never quite did",
the passing of time is evident in these lines. Something interfered with this person's dreams. It could be directed towards a dead person, or someone who left. The more creepy conclusion is that you can say she's talking to herself; the things in life she thought she'd do but never got a chance to.
"Rain or appointments or something
Rain or appointments",
it's either one or the other which interfered. Rain is apparently not a favourite weather of hers, and appointments, well... that couldn't be any more enigmatic than it really sounds.
And finally, the last line of the last, repeated stanza,
"We will have salad",
I thought Renee put it really well. The incoherence of this line changes the tone of everything you've already heard. "We will" is the magic formula of this poem. The theme is particularly concerned with the present and the past, and then suddenly we get a line which is future-tense. Salad is irrelevant, as far as I'm aware, it's just the fact that the future suddenly appears before us. Very strange.
+Parched Pinemarten that is a very good interpretation of what the song is about. well, put!
Salad in itself is not important indeed but next to the future-tense which breaks the tension of the song, it also brings us back from nostalgia to practical habits. From a wish of emotional fulfillment to an ordinary family situation. Also, if the video is meant to give the extra information, it is about the possible fear of losing a loved one and this ordinary family habit becomes quite special expressing the hope of a time together forever :)
I think your explanation is terrific, couldn't have analysed it better! I do believe so, it is lacking the emotional content which is what we're all feeling all along.
Laurens Woltermann Thanks for the contribution and the compliment!
I can see the nostalgia in the line, makes sense to me. If the video says anything, then it does indeed say what you describe (though I personally prefer the ambiguity).
this song is a masterpiece
First time I heard this, is when my local radio station was broadcasting live from a club. They had beats to it, I didn't know this was just vocals.
I sing this in a shallow flower field. Filled with a embrace of cold and autumn breeze
**itches shoulder**
Oh shi-
**turns into forest**
Respawns as a tree
christ i hope this isnt permanent-
The weird part is that this song actually makes me itchy
"Growing some buddha shit right here."
@@squidyy2k excuse me what
The only thing I could see as unsettling is the complete lack of other sounds in this song, not even instruments. Otherwise it sounds like a song full of hope for a good day, a better tomorrow and that they had enjoyed yesterday as much as possible.
There's wind on the song.
@@crose7412 ambient noise does kinda count as an instrument but it's still ambient noise
This song is actually a poem by Edward Barton. Jane, the lady singing, was his girlfriend.
For me it gives a feeling of "everything is fine, but something is missing" which kinda goes along with the feeling of living in peace in the wake of the great sacrifices of war.
Who else was waiting for the beat to drop until they realized it ain't that one? Still, massive respect for the original song.
I could probably open the spirit realm with this. Truly haunting
