On Rock or Indie Rock vocals if the mix is busy. It lacks a little body for me to think of it as a "go to" for stripped or acoustic versions where I feel like needing the elements to sound bigger/thicker. The acoustic guitars per se sounded great, though.
I just started getting more comfortable with writing and performing my own blues tunes. I never wanted to feel like I was just "phoning it in", as they say. But I can absolutely hear the tone that would make this a killer blues mic. It just has a super sweet tone overall. I'm currently writing more blues. I wouldn't mind doing some vocals through this. Also... micing up the Breedlove for some sweet tones would be pretty awesome as well. That being said... I would like an autographed Warren Huart album. Warren sings your favorite hits, spanning the decades. Let me know where to send the money for this.
Wow, I think this isn't just a microphone, but a time capsule. I can hear vintage tones breathing thru the speakers. I loved that performance Warren. I turned off my video monitor for a moment to let my ears grab a little more.
You may or may not be a "great, bluesy rock" singer, but what you are, is a fantastic guy who's super-talented and very generous to those who follow you. Thanks for yet another tip on something that might help us achieve our goals as artists and engineers!
I bought one of these a few months ago and only tried finger picking on acoustic (besides vocals) but for that didn't quite work out. I'm very pleased to see it used on a lot of sources working out so well :)
It's a great sounding mic. No, it actually sounds fantastic. I'm really looking forward to listening to the multitracks. From what I could hear on UA-cam, your voice sounded absolutely fantastic.
After watching a video before this one in which you were using the SMB7, I can definitely tell the difference. That grit you’re talking about is there. It’s got kind of a punch to it. I can hear how it would be a great rock mic.
At the $500-ish price range the Shure KSM32 is a stellar option, and the WA87 is another incredible sounding mic for the price (not too close to the U87 Ai, but still incredible).
Podcastage yes, indeed, I’ve used KSM32’s, they made insanely good room mics instead of U87’s! Did a shoot out with the Warm against 12 other mics at Blackbird. The KSM is definitely a wonderful mic!
Had a moment to peak and listen to the song. This was very impressive. I am usually a TUBE mic guy and this really had a lot of the values i want to hear. Nice vocals Warren.
Everything's GrHate Flammable Animal I was actually thinking of you when I talked about someone who was looking at a mid priced great sounding vocal mic! While this is only $600 this might be perfect for you!
Although I'm aware of how much your experience plays a role to make this sound as great as it does, I find it very encouraging and impressive to see and hear what is possible with just one microphone. This could be great a video-series.
Oh wow dear Warren amazing job, the sound is excellent I am in love with this video and with the mic. Thanks for sharing. Quality stuff.. best regards from Roger Valencia Spain.. thank you
Great stuff Warren! One of your best performances yet, bravo! This mic really suits your voice. If you don't already have one in your collection I would say it's a must for you! Thanks again... now back to finger crossing in the hope I win one :D
OH YEAAAAAAAHH!! That was such a great frikkin performance! Head banged all the way :D Again, that electric guitar tone was killer and right on the money. Also, I dont know why you say you aren't a good singer, Warren...you have a great voice and it suits rock music very much because you naturally have some dirt and grit in your voice which makes you sound amazing! :D Also, side note - great mic! :P
Yes, my first professional vocal mic would probably be by JZ Microphones! They are not too far away from where i live by the way! Great review as always Warren!
Hi Warren, I'm really digging' that "crunch" the Amethyst is adding to your vocals (and everything else recorded thru it.) Imparts a really finished sound...like a record. Note: "Crunch" is the word I've chosen to try to describe that extra "grit."
Just a heads up for anyone considering buying it, it doesn't come with the shock mount, it's sold separately. The Violet brand shock mount is essentially the same--look in to the history of JZ and Violet as they're connected. I got the Violet brand (found a used one on Amazon), because even though I bought from JZ's website, my mic came in a Violet brand box. Blue Microphones is a company that broke off from Violet/JZ pretty much, and they have a similar shock mount that might work with the Amethyst, but I'm not sure.
I've used the Amethyst for recording in a live situation in the studio, similar to how I'd use a SM7 but a bit more hi-fi with the same rejection qualities. I have Neumann and Manley mics for my main vocals but this mic is a great one to have when you need more than 1 and besides being smaller, the shock mount is way smaller with is better for storage and micing tight spaces.
First of all Warren, I really was pleasantly surprised by what your voice brought to that song. A different perspective. No one is Paul Rogers and the fact that you didn't try to be was cool. It totally worked. Great production all the way around. As for the mic, Well it must be pretty good.
Joe Barresi has said time and time again that the Violet Amethyst Vintage mics are his favorite overhead mics. I'm not sure if these are exactly the same but judging from this video this mic is quite something else.
Grit hmm? I have to admit I'd be curious to test it out. I need to get on my full fledged computer and catch up with getting multitracks and a few more things. 😀
Very focused upper mid bite/grit/distortion(?). I would put this on an arco string instrument with a lower register; cello, double bass. I would actually like to hear on a guitar cab with a Coles 4038: let the Coles carry the low mids, Amethyst the upper mid focus.
The song sounded great and I could hear what you mean about the sizzle. Could you talk about the drums on that track? I liked them. Don't know if they're live or programmed. If programmed... well, nicely done. If live, well, that snare is snappy.
@Produce Like A Pro - Warren that bass track is super fat when you isolate it - roughly what EQ/compression did you apply and what kind of strings? Are they flats?
Sorry, i really don't like the drum sound. I know it's not the point. Mic sounds pretty good ! I would use it for vocals, guitar, perhaps as room kick on the drum, perhaps sax
What would you use this mic for?
On Rock or Indie Rock vocals if the mix is busy. It lacks a little body for me to think of it as a "go to" for stripped or acoustic versions where I feel like needing the elements to sound bigger/thicker. The acoustic guitars per se sounded great, though.
Hi Rafael download the files! You’ll be amazing how much low end was in the vocal, especially for my think voice! Haha
I would record everything The Feel Button plays! Aka...just little old me 🤠
I would use it on a vocal, acoustic guitar, piano, percussion, wind instruments, as drum room mike and if I had 2 I would use them as overheads :)
wow That was great im taking your version to our rehearsal tomorrow!
Great sounding mic. modern and smooth, with a touch of vintage.
Thanks ever so much Ryan!!
Wow, I think this isn't just a microphone, but a time capsule. I can hear vintage tones breathing thru the speakers. I loved that performance Warren. I turned off my video monitor for a moment to let my ears grab a little more.
This was such a fantastic video! Lovely presentation, minimal fluff, GREAT performance and a showcase for the mic! Great job Warren and Team!

Mother of marie, i haven't seen you perform like this, still got the voice of a 20 y/o if you ask me! i am blown away!
I am happy to see these comeback, especially the generous giveaways! Always rock man!
Warren, you always say that you can’t sing. This was an incredible vocal performance. I really enjoy listening to your voice.
What a fantastic cover! Great guitar playing and tones. The mic sounds great on the mandolin and the voice
It's a great sounding mic. No, it actually sounds fantastic. I'm really looking forward to listening to the multitracks. From what I could hear on UA-cam, your voice sounded absolutely fantastic.
Love the multi cam video. Great to see you doing all the parts. Whoever edited the video did an awesome job.
That´s the best vocal sound you had here. Really cool.
agreed!
@@soulchorea Thanks ever so much!!
Thanks ever so much Marekords!

i LOVE JZ mics! this is one of my favourite mics!

I haven't used this jz mic but if it has a quality similar to their black hole model, it deserves a spot in the locker for sure
Had a moment to peak and listen to the song. This was very impressive. I am usually a TUBE mic guy and this really had a lot of the values i want to hear. Nice vocals Warren.
Thanks ever so much Marc!! You Rock my friend!!
That looked like you had some fun! Very cool Warren. Riffmeister.
Oooh. I like this mic sound. I'm very intrigued. Great video and performance! 😊

@@Producelikeapro I had a feeling. I feel honored to be answered in fantastic video format. I think that's my new mic. Thank you so much! ❤️👐

Ok, not Paul Rodgers (nobody is but him), but very nice Warren!
Hi Chris you’re very kind my friend!!
Oh wow dear Warren amazing job, the sound is excellent I am in love with this video and with the mic. Thanks for sharing. Quality stuff.. best regards from Roger Valencia Spain.. thank you
Thanks for the Multi tracks Warren, sounds like a nice Mic ;0)
Thanks Warren :) It is sounding really nice, thank you for introducing it to us. BTW your voice to my ear sounds much better using it than SM7.
wow! that solo sounds good
This sounds great! Nice playing and great singing! Love the sound of the mic.
Warren. You have a lot of talent. You should critique people's songs.
Hi Loren Abraham thanks ever so much! That’s a huge part of being a Producer! Helping people make the best of their songs!
Ffffff*ffff
G-sus, Warren. What a great presentation! That song is fantastic and mic is great!
Greetings from Poland :)
Hi Mario Dario thanks ever so much my friend!

I Love it! Your voice sounds amazing. Cheers from Brazilll!

Blown away Warren!! How on earth?? Didn't know you're such an incredible musician!! Damn!! :)) Love it!
Wonderful Mic review and another great song to mix ! :) Thanks for the Mic Review, I was always checking on JZ Mic's , great quality !
Great performance,sir. Just great,you're great singer👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks very much!
Now that's some good singing warren!!
Hi Warren, I'm really digging' that "crunch" the Amethyst is adding to your vocals (and everything else recorded thru it.) Imparts a really finished sound...like a record. Note: "Crunch" is the word I've chosen to try to describe that extra "grit."
You got a consistent vibrato there Warren! Cheers!!
Something special about this mic ya.. I like it..
You voice sounds excellent, brother.
You could easily pull off Liam Gallagher with your voice. Sounds great.
Just a heads up for anyone considering buying it, it doesn't come with the shock mount, it's sold separately. Wow man that was some awesome singing and playing, forget the mic! 😆
amazing...can't wait to mix this...big thanks Warren
I enjoy listening to your performances Warren...you have a good tone to your voice & you sing well! plus play the pants off most parts!
You did a fab job, Warren! the mic sounds sounds very good.
I guess I'm seeing Warren sing more and more recently. Is this just my imagination? I love his vocal performance anyway :)

Insane studio talent.
Thanks ever so much my friend!!
Grit hmm? I have to admit I'd be curious to test it out. I need to get on my full fledged computer and catch up with getting multitracks and a few more things. 😀
It seems to take all the high end frequencies and makes them not so harsh, smooths out the upper end.
That's a great analogy!
Wow :) You are better and better singer . That mic make your voice more prensence.
I love these demos.
Shure sm27. Got mine for 150. awesome with out popfilter
Replaces well a U67 indeed!

I love mine it has handled the vocals on my last 4 releases replaced my Rodes and Akg 212
Great sounds and great vocal performance!

Fantastic. Snare at lower pitch would work
badass, mr Huart! lovely cover
Nice plosives! Well done.......
Fire and water
This mic has more magic than Harry Potter
Haha thanks ever so much Clayton!
Great sound. Love what you did with the song also. Did you put some saturation on the vocal or was that from the mic? Whatever it was, I loved it.
I wonder how this would be in studio for voice over and podcasting. It wounded great here, but it looks amazing too!
Watch the videos on the SonicScoop youtube page, the guy running the channel uses this mic mostly for his videos now
I really liked your black Yamaha electric guitar (If I’m not mistaken that’s Yamaha guitar), when is the next giveaway or mixing contest? :)
Warren could you do a show where people send music and you show how to fix problems ?
Really nice voice Warren!
Great performance.
Good singing Warren ;-)
would it be a fair equation to describe the extra "grit" as something akin to using saturation?
Very nicely done!
sounds fantastic =)
Thanks ever so much Samuel!!
Warren great voice and playin
Wooowww man the singing....
Hi great demo is the mic going into a preamp for the vocal here ?
@Produce Like A Pro - Warren that bass track is super fat when you isolate it - roughly what EQ/compression did you apply and what kind of strings? Are they flats?
Very nice!
Wonder how this compares with the JZ BH 2.
Interesting idea. I will have to see if I can compare
may I speak on behalf of the community and say we want a Warren Huart album with downloadable multi-tracks!
Sorry, i really don't like the drum sound. I know it's not the point. Mic sounds pretty good ! I would use it for vocals, guitar, perhaps as room kick on the drum, perhaps sax
Your opinion btween this and lewit lct 440? Which one you prefer for your voice??
What mic would you recommend for a low male voice? I'm finally ready to upgrade from my focusrite setup.
really nice
Has the number of gear advertisements on your channel gone up exponentially since lockdown or is it just me?
A pop filter would be nice...
Thank you sir
Круто!!! Thanks!!!
hi Andris are you reading this? :P
Wooooo
How can I use the vu meter
Please, I don't understand
Hi sir I'm a small UA-camr I need it plz give it to me
Tu
Can't believe you are promoting this mic. It's terrible and ridden with problems
Why and what's the experience?
