British Racing Green actually derives from a motor race in Ireland in 1902. The British cars were painted green out of respect to the Irish for holding the race. After that race the British continued to use similar greens on their cars.
That was a beautiful piece of footage. One goal in life is to meet this man. This guy is a sensation, not because of his love for old porsches, but because of his charisma and passion. Thank you XCAR for yet another gr8 video. This video should be on Petrolhead channel lol.
I feel the same way about these cars. Saw a red 1988 cab as a kid and was in love. just love the simplicity of the the design. the shape is iconic and timeless.
Beautiful car, admirable philosophy. Always thought British Racing Green, if this is meant to be the same color, was much darker. Nevertheless, I love green Porsches and you don't see too many of them. Hoping to buy a Rainforest Green Boxster soon..
+Aaron Bilodeau Hear hear!... I was 6 when I saw one an I've waited 29 long years to buy mine. I own my 911/993 today, bought it 7 years ago and whenever I drive it I feel exactly the same things he's describing: pure joy and freedom. Can't get enough of it. Amazing machines
I totally relate to his statement about driving and how it allows you to disconnect from the rest of life and really unwind. I have a few routes that I take regularly to go and unwind, ranging from about 15 miles to 150+ miles, mostly on back roads through the middle of nowhere. Since I live in NH, about 3/4 of a mile from the ocean, I can either blast up the coast in the early morning or late afternoon when there is little traffic, or go inland and/or up to the north and into the mountains. Either way, I get to enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape and nature. I'm not so lucky as to have a plethora of Porsche 911's in my garage to choose from, I do have (what I consider to be) some rather nice vehicles that are a ton of fun on the winding roads here in NH. The first, and my favorite, a supercharged 1990 convertible Mustang LX (306ci with 515hp/460tq at the wheels) , which is rather lightweight at a touch under 2800lbs, and handles quite well with upgraded suspension and sticky Yokohama tires. I love getting up into the mountains, opening the exhaust cutouts and hearing the roar of the exhaust while I carve through the winding roads of the mountains and valleys. The second is a 1989 Chevy S10 with custom chassis and Jag 5.3liter V12, which probably makes 375hp or so at the flywheel. Its a completely different experience from the mustang, but still wonderful. The V12 just loves to rev, and that unique V12 sound is like music. It lacks the brute force torque that the Mustang has, but it still pulls pretty good. You just need to keep the rpms up and let that V12 HP pull you out of the corners. And I can't say enough about the way it sounds, as its amazing. It runs custom headers into dual 2.25" exhaust with a X-pipe and Magnaflow Bullet race mufflers, exiting just ahead of the rear tires. Its very raspy and somewhat high-pitched. You would think it was a European sports car, until you see this little truck coming down the road. It gets a lot of attention, especially when I tell people it has a V12 in it. A little about the Jag V12. They are relatively easy to find and can be had for very little (I got the complete car for a few hundred dollars. It was a rust bucket, but had low miles and a solid engine). As long as it doesn't need a bunch of work, they are great engines, just expensive when they break. But if you want a low-cost V12, the 70's and 80's Jags are a bargain. And there is nothing like the sound of a V12!
Beautiful, beautiful car. Luv that Magnus is his own purist and he left this car original right down to the original owners stickers. What a humble guy. You da man, Magnus👍
What makes Magnus Walker so appealing is the fact that he is so genuine, unique, humble, and is an amazing storyteller. I could listen to this guy tell stories about his cars all day. “Modern cars may do things better, but the reward is no the same.” - Magnus Walker.
I used to have a 67 912 when I was delivering pizzas at 19 years old. Not fast, but damn it was the most rewarding car to drive. I have a 99 Carrera and I love it - had it for 10 years now, but not the same as an early 911 in terms of road feel. My dream is an early 911S. Don't care what the 0-60 time is - I just want to run through the gears.
Spot on Magnus, I have a 77 Targa and it is definitely a great driving experience. I never turn on the radio because it is such a recharging of my mental state. Better then laying on the couch paying someone $ 200 an hour, telling them your issues. Keep spreading the Porsche passion
I owned an '88 911 Targa Carrera, purchased some 10 years ago. This was the Commemorative Edition in Diamond blue metallic paint, short throw shifter and stitching in the headrests. I absolutely loved that car. It was a car that forced you to drive it and pay attention. The clutch was super stiff, the steering precise with no power assist, the brakes could bring you to a dead stop from 100 mph almost immediately. The fun part was 2nd to 3rd gear. Well one of the fun parts. I had to sell it for various reasons, but you can definitely have an emotional attachment to a car.
***** Favourite model of Porsche? ... early 911 indeed! I've never forgotten the feel of driving my first, near new '71 911T that I got the opportunity to "wring out" for a few minutes. The engine was pure music and the precision of all operational aspects left a lifelong impression on my belief that 911's stand alone in the world of sport cars!
I have an early SWB 911 and a '66 912, (and the '71 914 in my avatar pic). All are in various stages of lengthy restoration or refurbishment. We spoke several years ago, but I still haven't had a chance to come see your shop. Hope to do so in the near future ... Keep up the great work ... really enjoy your videos. They keep the spark alive.
Wonderful wonderful video, absolutely loved it! I recently purchased a 2000 911 Carrera in Encinitas and drove it, with my wife, to our home on the East coast. Magnus hits the nail on the head, great commentary Thanks.

I like how Magnus can describe the feeling driving such a car. I think only somebody can really understand who draw a car from that area. I was blessed to have a Beetle from 57 so he makes me remember that car. Thank you for the excellent video.
I don't know if ill ever the the pleasure of owning one of these cars but I hope so. I have the same passion for all cars but the 911 has been my lust/love since I rode in my uncles 72 model back in 1977
I had 65 solex carb'd 911(901) with the lead blocked front bumper to try to keep the wheels on the ground, they didn't :) Had that car since about 1970. Sold it recently to a good guy that had admired and wanted it for a long time. That green reminded me of my first MG at 15 years old & the car reminds me so much of the Porsche I now miss.
That is such a beautiful 911. I typically don't like green except for British Racing Green on a proper E-type, or any British sports car. But man, you've got the classy looking early 911 in that color and it's just gorgeous.
This is the perfect example of someone that is doing it right. The guy isn't out to showoff his cars to the public, or even really cares what people think. He builds and modifies cars based on what he wants to do. The people that want to 'buy' his door handles and things are followers, and completely missing the point of modifying a car.
Love that you respect the provenance of the car...makes the car feel alive, like it has earned all its badges of wear, and is unique, special and appreciated for its journey-
many people tend to say they are motorheads, still i think its about drving, the essence of driving a car, the experience and sensory feedback - what i am trying to say is, that horsepower and handling might do along way, but experience each car in a mind-peacing drive on a nice road will always be a great experience.
I have a true 65' 911 all matched Irish Green Solex and all. it's all I have left in my 401k and am looking to pass it on I have a video posted on the vehicle and love it I hate to see it go but someone else can carry the torch of one of the first 911's off the line.
Hi Magnus, I had a gery similar car to this one. If you get a chance, try installing a vintage seats 911R seat in it. It swaps out in less than 20 minutes and feels great to sit tight in the turns with an otherwise somewhat bouncy ride. I eventually did other upgrades to my car, such as rebuild the motor with original S p&c's, cams and S carbs which made the car significantly faster and more bubbly at hi revs, but the original 2.0 normale with solex cams was a nice smooth engine with enough power. For the hassle and money though, the 911R seat was best improvement of all....
British Racing Green originated in Ireland during the Gordon Bennett race in 1903. The British entry used a green livery to commemorate the event being held in Ireland, then under British rule. At the time, it was known as Shamrock Green.
Looking for info motor light comes indenifies as fault 41. More info some say cam sensor. Also need parts right side window washer sprayer. Also need plugs that cover openings to cover when temp top removed. Suggestion on these items?
Green as Britain's colour is believed to date from a race in 1902 where British Napier cars were painted green in honour of the country hosting the race: Ireland. The colour was originally referred to as Shamrock Green. So Irish Green is more appropriate for this Porsche...
Decompression time, so true. I don't own a 911 but I get to drive clients frequently and I have a great test drive route, and I experience exactly that.
In 1977 as a 20 year old living in Long Beach, CA I knew nothing of Porches but had to have one and found one listed for sale locally -I paid $6k for a 5 speed, steel wheels, chocolate brown with saddle interior in mint stock condition with 55k miles-the older gent was selling for his son and during the test drive mentioned that the car had a lot of pep once it got going in 3rd gear-3 weeks later I took it to a local Porsche mechanic and asked him to drive it and he got in then revved it up and said to me " so how many gears is this" I said 4 speed , and he revved it again put it in gear and it took off like a rocket with black smoke blasting out the back exhaust and he said "no this is a 5 speed you been taking off in 2nd gear"!
Very much hope this guy reads this comment. So regarding 3:25 and his mention of british racing green. Yes it is a colour. However, back in the early days of motor racing colours were assigned to countries. Italy was red, Germany silver France blue and so on. In light of this and because one of the first international races, call it the beginning of modern F1, was hosted by the british but was actually held in ireland, so in a dipping of their hats so to speak, the british team decided to paint their cars Green to represent ireland's national colour. The colour became known as britihs racing green simply by default of what country were using it. And thus british racing green.... in ireland. haha So magnus here maintains that porsche perhaps couldn't call the car british racing green but he is wrong i think. I reckon that in fact they called it Irish green as a mark of respect to the true origin of colour. Anyway, this is not the most eloquent explanation of the origin of the colour, but suffice to say that "irish green" is actually more accurate than magnus thinks. Feel free to research it your selves. P.S. I think this is a beautiful car... but green.... any shade of green on a porsche... I'm not a fan. only aggressive looking cars can pull of british racing green as a colour. The E-Type of course or a or the mustang GT fastback.... Something that looks like it would run off with your wife if you turned your back on it. personally i think Black is the best color for Porsche. Makes them look as fast as they are.
While sadly I havn't been able to own a Porsche yet, as the owner all my adult life of classic Fiats and Alfas I totally understand where Magnus is coming from. It is the difference from owning boring, dull modern cars. and yes I have one of those too but at least it is an Alfa. One day though I will have a classic Porsche
I often wonder if people in the sixties realized they had iconic cars or if they just thought they were another everyday car like i feel when i see today's cars.
i am only 27 and my first car was a porsche i had bought with my own money saved up i am now on my 30th car and the 7th porsche there is no other car i would rather be driving i go to car shows and see this car and that but u fall in love with your own so much cuz it makes u feel it gives you a non-negative bias that u just can help but love your car more than anyone elses car great video i just started watching him and jay leno RAUH WELT Begiff and Singer tonight incredible dreamers that pursue this passion we all feel
In 1984 (at the age of 22) I have nearly the same Car. A 1966 911 with 130 horses 2,0 Liters, short wheel base, stearing wheel of wood, even sun roof, also dark green. But, I have many technical probs, especially with the 6 solex curbs (webers came later); also porsche mechanics have problems with them. Often only 4 or 5 cylinders were aktive. Than it sounds like a beetle/Käfer. When it 's all okay, driving was very nice. I ve written an article about it: Enjoy: www.wiwo.de/unternehmen/auto/kultauto-porsche-911-feiert-50-geburtstag-roehren-und-rasen-mit-butzi/7927122.html
Toni R Let it be seen by a good independent classic Porsche’s mechanic/workshop. That ignition still has points, and there’s nothing wrong with Solex’es, apart from their non linear torque/power delivery, causing a flat spot on the 3000/3500 rpm. Ignition advance/delay must be setup according to usa low octane fuel, probably change spark plugs leads and distributor cap, clean and syncro carburetors. Bulletproof nice engine that is, demands old school and/or informed mechanics.
It doesn't matter what car you drive, what car you love. If it is your car, your drive, your enjoyment that you will get and that feeling is what non car/bike people will not understand.
great video. I often wonder "why I am so obsessed with my car?" I go outside just to look at it at 11:30 at night. This video lets me know that I am not alone.
I have the same passion and aesthetic for Ford Mavericks. My most recent acquisition is 1974 in hurl green It covers all the emotional bases, that car.
Awesome video! I have a 914 that I'm restoring now. It had been painted 4 different colors. The original color was Irish Green. It's at the body shop now and the next time that I see it, it will be Irish Green! Q
Such a humble soul with pur passion for Porsches. Your a good man Magnus hats off to you my friend.

Gav .F Irish Racing Green... sounds good
Gav .F British and respect for Irish in 1902 ? that's a good one ;)
BRG is a much darker colour. This car is Irish Green and is a colour Porsche has used for many years
interesting. it's a beautiful color.
Just really discovered this guy. Glad i did.
***** I will get this car one day. Love at first sight.
***** indeed i did
I just did just about 2 weeks ago aswel.

every day i had driven any of my Porsches i feel the way he described incredible how car brand can bring so many people together and also feel

Seems like one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. If only more of us had his outlook on life. The world would be a richer place.
I do believe Mr Walker has found his heaven on earth while driving his early Porsches. Good for him. 😊

“Modern cars may do things better, but the reward is no the same.” - Magnus Walker.
I forgot how beautiful that era of Porsche is. That curve from front headlight to rear taillight is simply elegant. Truly exquisite.
Man, i love this green color.
Past week, i saw a 60's VW Beetle painted with a green that resembles that same color, absolutely beautiful.
zanychelly looks like john deere green. respectively.
Magnus gets it. The nuances and enjoyment from each Porsche.
Thanks for this great video. Makes me homesick for my 71 911T.
I used to have a 67 912 when I was delivering pizzas at 19 years old. Not fast, but damn it was the most rewarding car to drive. Beautiful video.....I love how you guys manage to mixed a car review and a documentary and make it came out really well.
Speaks so candidly on his cars and Porsche as a whole and doesn't sound like a fanboy at all.
I appreciate that he focuses on the journey in all endeavors and not the destination.
Magnus
This is not British Racing Green, which is considerably darker than "Irish Green".
Beautiful car!
Beautiful car. Unmistakable sound from the exhaust.
lots of "Words of Wisdom" . Magnus is ALL RIGHT.
love his Passion for what he does. KUDOS. and Thank you for the video.
Spot on Magnus, I have a 77 Targa and it is definitely a great driving experience. I never turn on the radio because it is such a recharging of my mental state. Better then laying on the couch paying someone $ 200 an hour, telling them your issues.
Keep spreading the Porsche passion
the way this guy talks about Porsches makes mesmile
Love the exhaust sound. Great job capturing that accurately.
I feel it man ... thanks for sharing!

Much respect for this guy and what he does. There's a lesson that can be learned here.
This car is the reason why the 1,000,000th 911 looks like it does.
I have an early SWB 911 and a '66 912, (and the '71 914 in my avatar pic). All are in various stages of lengthy restoration or refurbishment.

that tail caught in the door at 1:49.....
Magnus you are a legend! You understand Porsche like few people does.
Congrats on the beautiful timepiece too ;)
Magnus is a great dude! His Porsches are awesome!!!
my 2nd doc on this guy and he is what we need

you could some of the old V W beetle in that car
the more V W- like it is, the better.
after all, they are both Dr. Porsche's kids
Even newer 911 and Beetle still looks related, a little bit.

i think this Irish green car is not sell .just driving freely across high ways by feeling freedom ..by me i like this green car
A good friend of mine owned one way back in the '90s. VERY nice car indeed, he sold it & bought a Porsche 911 (996 Series) GT3.

Probably one of the nicest colours ever. This and British Racing Green are pretty amazing.
You'll be surprised at how many cars do not rust in the rain here in Seattle... The rain makes people take care of their cars if they care enough.
The best video and totally hitting the nail on the head. Amazing
You inspire me. Years ago I saw this porsche in a garage in Brooklyn , this weekend I going to look for it. I think nirvana a 73.

THIS IS ORIGINAL AND CLASSICS PORSCHE 911AND MOST PORSCHE 911 CLASSICS DIE HARD FANS MOST TO WANTED AND TALKING ABOUT ! BEAUTIFUL !
30 is a lot of cars, mate
I like that he doesn't have to have the latest and greatest. He likes what he likes.
Right there is my dream car in my favourite colour. Breathtaking.
Magnus , prob the best video you have done! And a fantastic car
I ve written an article about it: Enjoy:

Toni R Let it be seen by a good independent classic Porsche’s mechanic/workshop. That ignition still has points, and there’s nothing wrong with Solex’es, apart from their non linear torque/power delivery, causing a flat spot on the 3000/3500 rpm. Ignition advance/delay must be setup according to usa low octane fuel, probably change spark plugs leads and distributor cap, clean and syncro carburetors. Bulletproof nice engine that is, demands old school and/or informed mechanics.
A 22 year old could afford a 911 in the 60's? Is this an average situation, just curious?
God, why somebody didn't liked it? Truly a great, inspiring video. Great job XCAR.
What a beautiful car
It doesn't matter what car you drive, what car you love.
If it is your car, your drive, your enjoyment that you will get and that feeling is what non car/bike people will not understand.
great video. I often wonder "why I am so obsessed with my car?" I go outside just to look at it at 11:30 at night. This video lets me know that I am not alone.
Love your work brother! I love early porsche myself....lets just say I live for Porsche and one day soon I will own one, I going to be an outlaw!😁👍🤘
