What about the new north star program that minnnesota is offering for those who qualify. They help you pay for school. I think you have to make less than 80 grand to qualify. But they only cover the cost of 60 credits for an associates degree and 120 for a bachelors degree. Most associate programs for dental hygiene in Minnesota I'm seeing are more than 60 credits. Would a bachelor degree in dental hygiene be 120 credits or would it be more ? If so would it make more sense For me to get my bachelors if this new North Star program covers costs up to 120 credits
Thanks for your comment! I haven't heard of that program, but I looked into the BS degree at the UofM and it looks like way less than 120 credits, more around 80ish. Wishing you luck on your journey!
I’m glad I watched this video. I am 33 and I just applied to my local community college for Dental Hygiene. I’m excited for the journey but nervous. I’m a mom of 2 and I work full time overnight. So my concern is trying to balance it all without sacrificing how well I do in school. I truly know this is my dream career so I’m going for it. But you’re the first person I seen that starting this program in my age group
Thank you for sharing this video. I’m almost 30 and my program in Canada is 3-4years. I’ve honestly cried thinking about I was too late for starting this journey.❤
I will be applying for the fall semester next month. This will be my fourth time applying too. I was feeling discouraged about not being accepted the past three times, and then your video showed up on my feed. It’s crazy how similar our stories are. I graduated in 2006, went right into college and then dropped out after about a year. I’ve been a pharmacy technician for the e past 14 years. Your videos really helped me not feel so alone on this journey. Thank you!!
One girl I watched on UA-cam. Her program was $70K for an associates. But her program was an accelerated program it was 18 months. She said it included everything from start to finish though. Like uniforms equipments test fees everything
omg thanks for your comment, you're another huge inspiration to start my channel. you have done so amazing and i learn so much from every video you make, i love how your audio is always A 1 👌
Thank you so much girl, it is so AMAZING to have been so inspired by so many and now you all are showing me love, I feel so special and the drive I have to keep going is like wowwwww 🙂
@@_TinaWilliams keeeeep going!!! I was a teenage mom at 14 and got thru to that Hygiene degree by staying focused. You CAN DO IT!!!!!!🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 we wanna see you Succeed!! ❤️
Due to personal circumstances my choice of schools is extremely limited, but I checked through a bunch and those “extra requirements” can be ridiculous! Every school revealed a new unique request, such as CPR training or annual flu shots.
I find out in March if I’ve been accepted into my dental hygiene program!! My school is extremely secretive about releasing historical applicant data, so I’m super nervous but I’ve done the best I can! I have a cumulative 4.0 GPA, have completed all prerequisites including the suggested classes, and scored a 95% on the HESI. Fingers crossed I get in 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Bummer that your school won't release previous applicant data but from the sounds of it you are an extremely competitive applicant so I'm hoping for nothing but the best news for you come March!!!! 🥰
I didn’t get accepted the first time around. But fingers crossed I talked with one of the instructors of the program and she told me to reapply. We talked over the phone for about 30 minutes. She saw I had a B in chemistry and wants me to retake it because it counts towards getting into the program. Overall, I’ll be applying again in Spring 2025. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉Congratulations on finally getting accepted I literally know how it feels because this program only allows 18 so I’m on edge 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for this informative video. I’m currently debating on doing dental assisting first then dental hygienist. I’m currently in Florida and plan on moving to Minnesota which was ironic to me. I’m just worried about things not transferring in Florida to Minnesota.
My school says if i don't do reading and math assessment i won't have priority and it may affect me getting financial aid. I have never heard of anything like that, and I have a master's, a bachelor's, an AA and a vocational certicate already. I'm trying to skip as many prereqs as possible. I've done all of those classes. I don't want to do that stuff over again 😩
I’m not really passionate about anything and the things I’m passionate about don’t make any money so I don’t want to go to school for it. Dental hygiene is something I can tolerate. Should I still go to DH school ?
Great question. I wouldn't say I'm "passionate" about dental hygiene. I just can't lie to you. But what I _will_ say is that in the beginning I didn't know if I would ever feel "invested" in the career because I don't have that passion, but as time has gone on, things have changed. It's really wild to have a patient take my advice about how they can improve their oral health and when they come in and tell me about how it something I suggested helped them it really makes me feel good. And if I can leave work (school) feeling good? Well what's better than that? All that being said, if you don't like monotony/doing the same thing every single day over and over and over again, I don't think you should bother.
So are you currently working a full time job while in school? Did you have to find a night job? I’m finishing up my prerequisites and trying to think ahead of what I might have to do.
Everywhere I’m calling says you need to be a dental assistant first in order to apply for dental hygiene school here in MN. Can you tell me by any chance what school accepts non dental assistant?
@@Chelseaxoxo21 I started year 2 of DH school on Monday and I've never been a DA. I'm not going to disclose my school while I'm still attending, but there is at least 1 in MN, that I can promise you. I think there are 9 accredited DH programs in MN. Maybe mine is the 1 you haven't called yet 😫
