    No Charlie, it's actually the norm for teenagers to do well in women's tennis. It's been unusual that it hasn't in the last two decades because of the dominance of Serena.

    • @KaitainCPS
      @KaitainCPS 3 роки тому +5

      No, that's not it at all. The big difference was the change to luxilon strings in the early 2000s, which has led to topspin becoming a much bigger part of the sport. Fewer flat balls means the strike zone for ground strokes is higher than it used to be. And your back and shoulder muscles don't develop fully until your early 20s. So it is now harder for both men and women to make a major breakthrough in their teens than it used to be, because they cannot hit the ball at that height with the same power that twentysomethings can, at least on average.
      Serena only won two out of the last twenty four slams, and none of the last eighteen.

      Serena was less dominant than Steffi Graf. Add in Venus and the Williams sisters were no more dominant than Graf and Seles. You can look at combinations of two dominant players in each era and there isn't much difference between any of them.

      She never won a title due to injuries absolutely blighting her career, Robson would have won titles, maybe even a grand slam. Heather Watson has a terrible serve and general game, and yet has won 9 career titles including a grand slam title at Wimbledon and Robson was a lot better than her.

      @@nicksmith9371 You shouldn't be counting 'very low level' ITF Titles or Junior Wimbledon, they are not relevant. Watson has won 4 WTA Tour Titles (which is very good actually for a player of her limited ability, she's definitely been a 'over achiever' I think). Watson has also NEVER reached a 4th in a Grand Slam event, in her whole career, and she never will.

Heather is utter crap and has been for years( wins the U.S. open juniors and never gets past the 1st round in seniors). My point was Robson had far more ability had better slam results in her limited time and would have surpassed Watson with ease. If Watson can with 9 major titles imagine what Robson would have done. It's a mute point now as we know she is finished.

    Laura was and still is CLASS. Tennis people talk about "presence" and "authority" on a court. Until Emma, Laura was the last British woman who had that; (which is sad as our former No 1- Johanna Konte - has never really had that) and continued the lineage from Virgina Wade. However, as I have said elsewhere, I abhor the BBC pretensions to exploit Emma's acheivement. It was Channel 4 who bought the rights to show the live tv coverage of Emma's win to the Britsh TV viewing public, notwithtstanding that that the the Britsh TV viewing public's licence money is paid to the BBC! Hypocritical? Preoccupation with Formula 1 and it is a toss-up between Louis Hamilton as BBC Sportsview Personality or an overpaid soccer personality like Ryan Giggs who got a gagging order on his lover to stop her telling it like it is! The BBC has lost touch with Sport (but not Politics as we see from Laura Kuensnsburg!). A Question Of Politics with Sue Barker next?

    I have a major major issue why women get paid the same as Men. It’s absolute BS. You want to watch Federer/ Nadal / Djokovic versus 2 sets in a ladies match! 5 hours potentially in the men’s versus two women panting for 60 mins max.
    Easy solution is to ask the people to pay by the minute I.e. if the match lasts a couple of hours, then you pay for the time.

      Bollocks, why shouldnt women be paid same as men? They grind, train hard and persevere from early age, same as men…

      Matev unfortunately you make fk all sense, with your silly comments ! Do you honestly think anyone would compare any women players to Rafa, Federer And DJ. Stupid. Get a grip

      Of course they should be paid same as men, and the reasons are they work and traim hard from very early age, same as as men do!! How long are their’s matches is irrelevant in this case… you get a grip mate!

      And at least 70% of tennis fans would agree with me on this topic, i am glad people like you are in minority regarding this…

      Unfortunately we have some totally blinkered individuals on this thread! E.g Matej who genuinely believes that women should be paid the same in tennis. Absolute BS. Women’s tennis was usually a car crash with SW winning in 30mins. Now she’s gone there’s a bunch of NOBODIES getting to finals. Compared to Rafa, Federer, DJ and even Murray how on earth is there any justification for equal pay. I’m all for waitresses/teachers / nurses getting the same remuneration in some sectors btw.

      Won Wimbledon as a junior, went on to reach multiple finals as an adult, Olympic silver medalist, top 30 world singles ranking… I’d say she did OK.
