Thar body drag was incredible..! You OWN the ride...always!! Do you use a 'follow me' drone? I can't for the life of me figure out how you get some of the shots.
Love the channel Cookie. How about a video on spin out? I seem to spin out on nearly every run (especially in chop!) and a vid on causes and technique issues would be great!!
Any tips on how to determine if your board is too big for the current wind/chop? Any signs to look after how the board is behaving and so on? Riding a 135l Starboard Carve now and trying to figure out when it is too big for the conditions.
Difficult to answer… sure sometimes the board will be big for the conditions, but dropping to a smaller board will make it harder to get going and control in general! Sometimes just getting the foot straps further out and/or back can make a difference and allow you to stay on the same board in tough conditions!
"chop is so much fun once you realise it's there to be ridden, and not just a hindrance" beautiful remark! thanks for this Cookie, I will remember this next time when I'm fighting the chop 😀
Hi Cookie, thanks for this new video. Here's a question: Planing in heavy chop, in the straps, I sometimes fall because my front-foot heel catches a waves, which throws me off balance. I suppose I could move my footstraps inboard (yours are quite far inboard in this video), but maybe it's a problem with my stance. Could I be leaning too far out and somehow tilting the board too much? This happened several times yesterday on a Naish Starship 115 with 7m sail.
Simon, could you share about your camera setup? Is there a special angle or trick you use to capture your whole body & board in frame (eg. timestamp 3:40)? I have an insta360 + 25cm extension arm + flymount (mounted above the boom clip), but the video footages are nowhere as amazing as yours.
Another great ViD! THANKS!
Thanks! 👍👍👍
I'm starting to carve my board in and out of the waves more. I think of it like riding through moguls on a snowboard!
Yes kind of… working with the bumps and the chop- bit in a straight line bumping into them! 👍
Yes that is so true they are a bit like moguls. When you let skis just run and you use the knees for shock absorption
My next challenge, learning to enjoy high speed chop on a 135 board 😅
👍👍👍👍
Hi Simon, how about a short segment on how to wear and position your waist harness?
Thanks, Dave
I’ve got something very similar to that scheduled to film soon! 👍
Does anyone use a seat harness anymore?

Most of it is filmed on an Insta360 OneX2, there’s a link to it in the description. I’m going to do a “how to film” session soon! 👍👍👍

Great suggestion! I'm on it!
Could you do a chop hop session please
Something like this?…

Hi Simon, looking at renting a house on Vassilik, can I hire gear from you to windsurf ? By the way love all your tutorials, there great 🤙
Phil
Thanks phil!
We offer day rental from the Cosmos if you want to pop by when you arrive.
So much chop that you lost your sunglasses mid session! 😎
Hahah! I got nervous mid-session so threw them into one of the near by safety boats! 🤣
@@Cookiesports aaaah good! I also thought you lost them! haha thanks for the vid as always!! :)
awesome advice thanks - but what happened to your sunnies, they disappeared around 3.36! 🙂
Haha! I know… I got nervous and it was getting a bit hairy, threw them into a nearby safety boat with a friend! 🤣

Call that chop? You should go to Hayling island ;)
🤣 you’re not wrong… but hopefully the video and tips still work down south too! 👍
I assume chop will slow you down if you don't ride it right??? I've noticed I need more power to get out in cross shore conditions than on-shore....
Chop is for sure slower than for waters- hence speed runs on super flat areas.

🤩🤩
Good video. Is there a name for that move at 6:00 - 6:08? No change over of the sail?
That’s called a down-wind 360. 👍
@@Cookiesports Thanks.
A nice comparison to what you are saying is like riding moguls in skiing or rollers/pumptrack for motocross/bmx. It comes down to a suspension rhythm
Agreed! (Maybe you’ve seen I’m a ski and board instructor too- did a little ride-along session on bumps last winter!)
Great advice!! I like weaving around in the chop, its lots of fun!!
so do I - sometimes you can throw a great roster tail off the top of some chop.
👍👍👍👍

Footstraps a little small maybe? A bit bigger you could get your foot in further and still control the tilt of the board. 👍

Sounds like you’ve got the right gear to film like I am…. I’m mid-work on a “how to film” video… stay tuned!
very useful your videos, and great quality of images, what kind of camera you use and where you fix it ?
👍👍👍👍
Camera is an Insta360 OneX2, attached on a Flymount. More details and links in the description.
