Last year i started watching your videos, and it really made me wanna come to vasiliki. Now i've been here for over a week and it's been insane! I've been using a lot of your advice (front hand on the boom for tacks, squirrel position to get planing, keep arms close together for efficiency, arms high head low during beach/water start, rig away from me for counter balance) and it has helped me so much! Your videos are by far the best ones here on youtube. Thank you!!

G'day from Oz. Great videos, really helping my progression. I have an LT windsurfer which is alot of fun, and a Starboard 155 with a 5.8 sail. Both have there benefits and great to play on both! Lets see the LT Cookie ;)

Beautiful how to see you race around on the water and beautiful foot work on the gypes, and making this video with a big amount of info 👍 time for me to see if i can still surf even with the added 15 kg and 0 technic on the gype maybe with the help of these videos i wil finaly go up and down without needing to waterstart in the middle 😉 keep up these cool videos

I’ve been learning on an old Tabou Rocket 125l and tried out a 105 quatro thruster and a Goya one the other day. The smaller boards seemed so Rock steady when getting into the straps, changed direction so quickly via the back foot and carved beautifully compared to my larger Rocket but really showed my poor tack technique.
They’re a lot more responsive arnt they! 🤩🤩

Love your channel and all your tips! I've only been sailing for about a year on a 220l exocet windsup board as I'm about 95kg. Recently purchased a 155l go windsurfer and really have trouble getting it planing. Force's me to go back to my larger board and wondering if the go is the right board for me to progress to. Some other windsurfers on other forums have said it was a pig and should get something smaller like a true free ride board in the 130 l range. Had fun today on outer small lake with 7m sail and hit a new top speed of 23.5 mph on my 220l except still trying to get into the straps.
Going down to 130 from 220 would have made less sense, especially for your weight. I think you made a very good board choice with the 155L Go actually. My suggestion would be, get comfortable riding it (any new beginner or intermediate board) with a small sail first. Don't bother much about the planing part in the beginning, but train your balance, your tacks and maybe your gybes. If you can get planing with a 220 litre board, you won't have a problem with the 155 eventually.
I would be interested hearing Simon's opinion though.
Hi! Good on you getting stuck in. Definitely don’t go smaller if you’re not yet going on the 155- this is what I was saying in the video about the poor attitudes!
The “like a pig” as they describe, is described my me as “stable and forgiving”… the people saying this are us usually used to riding small responsive wavier style boards…not what you’ll need if your getting to grips with speed and foots-straps!

So many factors to consider when choosing what kit to use. Have had some of my best sessions in Vasiliki on my FireMove 135 and a 7.3m² sail in lighter winds. I wasnt going to bring it this year as there are 2 of us in the car and there is only so much room.
However I was doing some thinking yesterday.
What would happen if I stick the big fin from the Firemove 135 in to a MagicRide 109? I have only ever used the fins that come with the boards, so was curious if I can turn a smaller board into a "bigger" board by just changing the fin and using a bigger sail.
A bigger fin will help give the board a bit more lift, and potentially more lateral resistance… but it’s a fine balance of too much lift and it’s uncontrollable!
100kg weight ride a 120l (free race) with 6.7 to 8.5 then we then move to 113l (wave) use 5.5l to 4.7. Most of time on water is spent on bigger board due to winds being around 15knts to 24knts.

Love it - your videos are incredibly useful & informative…many thanks. I’m an early intermediate windsurfer…just had my first session using a harness. Also, just about to buy my first windsurf…I’ve found a used 2020 Starboard Go 144 (Starlite) & a 2020 Starboard Carve 144 Flax Balsa both at similar price. The boards are the same shape as each other & I’m tempted to get the Carve - any reason why I shouldn’t? I weigh around 80kg. Thanks!!
Both boards are great and will suit you perfectly…just go for which ever is in the best condition & price!
Yup, weight is so important. There is a jpg on the internet that shows weight/sail ratio with x knots. Its not far off. What iam actually telling.. do not look at your neighbor he might be 60 kg..and you 95..

Great series of videos and really helpful. I am a 95kg reasonably fit 64 year old returning to windsurfing after a 25 year gap. My word - everything has changed. I was used to pretty small sinkers in pretty heavy waves in Jersey. I am not intending doing that again just yet, but will most likely be in sideshore chop and small waves in fairly gusty conditions.
I am thinking 95kg +5kg = 100 kg = 130l board allowing for some comfort.
Should I go for something like the Starboard Carve 130l or a large wave board like the Starboard Kode 125l ?
Could I get away with smaller in either.?
If ever I get back to large waves, then I would buy a full on wave board.
Either board will do you well, but sounds like the kode is a better option for you.
Could you go smaller?… yes… but that’s up to you…. Smaller is more playful, reactive and will jump more… but harder to turn and more sensitive & unforgiving!

Agree for the type slalom freerace, freeride. 👍 Not for speed, freestyle or waveriding. If you want to play around, pop, jumps, short turns, dont think big boards are suitable. But thats obvious i suppose.
I’m kinda aiming this at intermediates who are considering dropping sizes and need advice… not specific disciplines like you’re mentioning.
Although that could be a whole other video… when a freestyler or wave rider much drop/change boards.
I'm not sure what video it was in , but you stuffed a gybe and did a brilliant clewfirst waterstart. Waterstarting in stronger winds would be a good topic..🙂

Surfed for 15 yrs worse thing I ever done, followed fashion by getting board to small for me. Put my surfing and enjoyment back yrs 👍👍
Worse thing going on smaller boards? Stay on something big and floaty and all is well! 👍
Out of cusiosity, what kind of winds are you sailing in?

I would be sailing 8.2 on 139(85cm) in 15knots, from 18knots and up I would switch to 7.4 on a 117. But I'll admit the 139 is my comfortzone, the 117 is not. I sail race sails btw, which makes a big difference in windrange in comparison with a non cambered P7 Spy.
I try to summarise throughout the videos, then usually in the video descriptions too.

I think you need to add more than 5kg for neutral buoyancy. The board alone weighs 7 or 8 kg, most people forget that

cookie why do you never use bigger sails? I never see you use a sail past 6m2
I mean youre here riding on a 130+ liter board with a 5.9m2
@@tryvedam9588 wind in Vasiliki is crazy when it comes across the mountain. you don't need a bigger sail, recently I was feeling overpowered on a 4.4 in that particular spot.
@@teodorcatalinpraf1719 i know vasiliki is known for strong winds but even on different spots hes never riding past 5m2
My largest sail is a 6.5m ACX point-7… I use it in a number of videos on this channel- often paired with a Carve or ISonic! 👌👌
