Good overview of the MCDVs, I had 15 years of MCDV experience from build, operations, as Chief Engineer and ISSC Ship's manager so I know a bit about them. Small ship sailing was the most rewarding in my 36 year career. Great times, great people, lots of sea time and pier head postings. I did not enjoy sleeping in the pod though.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your experiences! I'm glad you enjoyed your time with the MCDVs, and yes, I don't think the accommodation pod would be much fun.
TY-Nice peek into the "Kingston" class vessels. They remind me of a modified tug boat , with the Z drive , and flat bottom, their agility must be best in class for a ship this size. A pair of M2 's looks a bit weak , but perhaps just enough firepower for coastal work...not really. Great ship, fine crew, just a bit more "teeth" needed as a Naval vessel should be armed for coastal defense. I know , the "fedral govt" is very much a peacenik , and other actual sailors would prefer the 40 mill, in case they encounter anything bigger than a armed trawler. ;)
The 40mm was for popping mines and general utility. These ships are good minesweepers as they are maneuverable. Good for training too. Not so good for coastal defence given their slow speed.
HMCS Calgary in the background looks like it is getting a full refit. And, I also agree that it should have a modern deck gun of some variety. And they should have a small store of MANPADS and any variety of small anti-tank missiles onboard "just in case". It does look like a good, solid ship. Note the pods can also have significant offensive or defensive weaponry if they choose.
There is a lot of potential in all ships and I agree that there needs to be more kinetic capability... it's a matter of vision and funding. And you're right, HMCS Calgary is approaching the end of its Extended Docking Work Period. It will be great to see the ship operational again!
Every Kingston class ship should have a M242 Bushmaster main gun. Two of these ships were sent off the coast of Africa with no protection from pirates etc. except for 50 caliber machine guns.
They are nearing the end of their operational life, so I agree, they need to be replaced, and optimally with a more capable sea-going platform that has some punch.

Another excellent episode!
Thank you so much! I work hard to make sure the videos give a good overview for all viewers. I really appreciate you watching! Go Bold! 🙂

It would have been interesting to see the Engine Room and its machinery.
Going across the pond to UK is similar to old Corvettes such as HMCS Sackville
For sure, however the MCDVs have a flat bottom hull which means they aren't good in bad sea states.
West Coast sailors are sandy bottom sailors!
Its a total mystery why they didnt replace the obselete 40 mil with the newer 25 Budweisser???
I am in total agreement with you!
Odd question, I am a American Coast Guard sailor and is there anyway I can ask to get a tour and eat at the galley at a Canadian naval base?
I have no idea about eating, but I'm sure you'd be able to secure a tour as a USCG member.
A ponytail?!? WTF!

I'm in agreement with you!

The CERA needs a hair cut…
Grooming standards have gone down hill. SMH.
Screw grooming standards. What matters is whether can they fight, and the answer is yes.
Another example of no weaponry.
Old and out of date, all need to be replaced ASAP
