  • Hello people of UA-cam. I am Gabe and this is my first UA-cam video. I decided to do more of a gear review for my first video simple because I thought is would be fun. Of course this is my first video I have ever posted on this platform so get ready for awkward cuts, camera angles, and rambling. Please feel free to give me feed back in the comments. I hope you enjoy the video.

    Good start to a basic kit. A mylar blanket would be a good addition as would a thick (6 mil) 55 gallon garbage bag, a pocket knife sharpener, some basic first aid supplies. Pocket pack of tissues for TP. A few 4 mil ziploc style bags. A signal mirror. Providing links to each item is also a nice touch you may want to add.

    Your fine Gabertin. For $50 at Walmart I like it. I would like to set off a challenge for you and anyone who is interested.
    Create the smallest Survival kit with less than 10 items. Something you could fit in a cargo pocket.
    That should stop all of the "I would add one more thing comments".

    You have a good start but need several items. Take your kit into the woods and set up a mock shelter with a fire. Boil water for a hot beverage. See how good or bad your equipment is. A real emergency doesn't give you a second chance. Learn how to use it before you need it. GOD BLESS

      Boil water? He just needs a container for his water purification tabs. One of those dry sacks that can roll up works fine.

      @@gopherstate777 Yes, boil water for a HOT beverage, not just for purification.

    I personally like the video . . And with time it will get easier and you'll get use to it.. . Just give it some time and just keep working at it . . . Everybody on UA-cam had to do the same as you . . . But your off to a good start .

    This is a very good throw away kit that can be tossed in a vehicle or as intended for low budget yet effective last ditch kit! I like it!

    A couple quart Ziplocs and a large trash bag or two would round this out nicely.

    The 3 things I would have added.
    1. Bandana
    2. Emergency blanket
    3. Small pkg of tissues
    Good basic starter for sure. 😎👍

    Not bad but I would have preferred a metal container to put everything in. You could cook and boil water in a metal container.

    The best kit you have is your brain, bug out kits are ok but experience is the key. I carry a knife, axe and a fire starter and para cord and a tarp that’s it the rest is in my head.

    Now take that kit out inthe woods for an overnighter. See what works , what doesn't.

    Unroll the cord and put it around the inside perimeter, get a real compass and check the whistle to see if it works. Safety pins, needle and thread, ty wraps.

      Safety pins needles and threads? Buddy, you are not making a quilt. In all my time in the military I never once broke out the sewing kit.

      @@gopherstate777 You are not in the military, you're alone trying to get home. Simple safety pin can act as a sling, needles to pop blisters, dig out splinters and sew up your skin. Thead and needle to repair shirt and pants to keep insects out or repair other items. Look outside, survival is not a patrol.

    A old chainsaw blabe can be used if its still sharp or semi blunt

  • @SDWNJ
    @SDWNJ Рік тому

    A wire saw is better than nothing, but a better and still somewhat space efficient option is a manual chainsaw. A step up from that would a folding saw. I’d suggest checking out Corona saws as they’re much cheaper than Silky.

    • @mikeh8228
      @mikeh8228 Рік тому

      I have the manual chainsaw and it works pretty decent. More robust than that wire saw.

  • @PlayaSinNombre
    @PlayaSinNombre 2 роки тому +2

    The commando saw can be okay, if used carefully and properly. Instead of wrapping it around a branch, which will almost guarantee binding and breakage, cut a 1 inch diameter branch, about 6 inches longer with the saw. Putting the ends of the branch through the rings creates a usable bow saw. And when you can, replace it with an official version from a surplus store. The real deal is issued with survival kits issued in the military, and have authentic military ID codes.

    • @gopherstate777
      @gopherstate777 Рік тому +2

      The Commando saw is a joke. Break the branch in half with your boot and get moving.

    Movement is critical..
    No more than 25% of your body weight should be a range to stick with..

    That coupled with your little pocket box with some redundancy should suit you.
